Gunnar Brekke Gatorade POY

Get real! Kids change their mind all the time leading up to loi day! He has a tough decision. I wish him well in whatever he decides. Rumors and heresay are just what they are--meaningless! No different than the people on here that post that they know what's happening in the NCAA investigation and the JJ situation.

Bummer that he decommitted.

Before people get their panties in a twist, and cast aspersions:

The behavior exhibited by cat and griz boosters over the years in regards to Montana recruits in particular is nothing to write home about. I have seen enough as a coach to think two things:

1. For recruits, public knowledge or obsession with their choices is not positive in any way. Most fans don't cross the line, but the few that do deserve to have themselves tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a pine rail.

2. Recruiting brings out the worst in human behavior. I have had coaches flat out lie to players with parents or their hs coaches in the room. So it doesn't surprise me there are claims of impropriety here. Not that there is or was. But a verbal is a verbal. Not binding in any way.

There was Grizzly football before this player, there will be Grizzly football long after him. Sounds like a solid player, but there are many.

He'll go where he goes. Merry Christmas!

I've got it on good authority that he's headed to MSU.
Not the first player nor will it be the last player to choose the cats over us. We will be fine without him, just as we've been without Kirk, Ione, etc. I understand recruiting MT kids is a priority (especially to fans/boosters) but the recruiting game is changing. The object is to get the best student athletes that give you the best chance at winning, regardless of where they from.

That was absolutely the funniest thing I have ever read on either egriz or scatnation. Everettgriz challenged alpha to a decathlon and alpha called his bluff. It was quite a string of back and forth until everett griz tapped out with that husky stadium rental crap. It was classic stuff I wish I could find the thread.

He knew I would beat him like a rented cat.....................

You're right (It's a Christmas MIRACLE!!!).

If he doesn't want to play for a Champion, we didn't want him. Glad he made that clear.

We didn't want him anyway is the Cat fan mantra, and has been for a long time. This is the first Egriz thread I've ever seen where a Griz fan says it. Cat fans have said it about almost EVERY Montana prep star that had to choose between UM and MSU and chose UM.

I'll man up and say, I, as a GRIZ FAN SURE AS HELL WANTED GUNNAR BREKKE TO BE A GRIZ, and am disappointed he backed out of a verbal commitment. I will NEVER say I didn't want a player of his caliber to be a Griz, like Cat fans said as recently as last year about Caleb Kidder. Congrats to Ash and his staff if he indeed does verbal to MSU. They surely stole one away from us this time around.

Someone asked about Horner...I was told by the same source that told me about Brekke last night that Horner will accept a partial at MSU over a partial at UM. But that he would accept a full from UM, so it appears he has no underlying loyalty at this point. He is looking for the best offer.

Best of luck to him. You ultimately gotta go with what's best. :thumb:

But I hope the next few Griz teams can make him sincerely regret switching.

Yes we did want him. He is a stud. But I hope he is happy at MSU. Delaney needs to be on the trail. Hard!!!

The hard part is losing the head-to-head battle for the quote-un-quote best senior in Montana. It's signifigant in that regard. It's like when people questioned the signing of Gustafson because he wasn't necessarily a fit for the Oregon offense. IMO, it doesn't matter. You have to go after and sign the Gatorade Montana Player of the Year regardless of the schemes you run. And while the Griz didn't get Trod that year, they got Brady (runner-up) and Kidder the next. Cat fans tried to say they didn't want both Brady and Kidder AFTER they inked with UM. While the fans may not have, Ash wanted both and offered both accordingly. Now the shoe is on the other foot. The Cats got the top senior in the state this season, and the GRIZ and Delaney sure as hell wanted him.

As for a Brekke being a running back, that part doesn't hurt as much in the short-term IMO. Canada has two more years, The Marshall transfer is in Missoula to start winter semester classes, Counts is the real deal in ANY offense and John Nuygen won't redshirt. I think in that regard, the Griz will be just fine without Brekke at that position. Never-the-less, it's a huge loss for the Griz BECAUSE he's the Gatorade Player of the Year and I don't care what Cat fans say, or what system either school runs, BOTH schools want every one of em'. And the Cats got this one. Hats off to Ash for the recruiting job they must have done because the kid verballed all the way last spring, and MSU never gave up on him apparently.

iT WAS MORE: "If he doesn't want to be a Cat, we didn't want him." That's been the Cat fan mantra since at least the inception of BN. Believe me, they wanted him as bad as the MSU coaching staff did. Gustafson too. It's a PRIZE and a COUP to get Montana's best players when it comes to the Griz-Cat rivalry, and they sure as hell want em all.

Like I said earlier. I'm of a completely different mindset. Even if they don't want to be a Griz, in the case of player's like Brekke, I sure as hell wish they did. And losing him sucks.
