OK Atlanta I get your points.
Great coaches get great talent and also end up winning. Some coaches can get wins with great coaching.
Smart coaches know that with great talent it is much easier to win games. I have talked with coach Stitt a few times and I came away thinking he is smart. I also mentioned I think he is "quick smart" Further, I went on to say I think he will do very well at Montana but I will know after he has completed his third season. In the meantime I will enjoy his high speed passing game and the new defense we will see this year.
Problems? Yes I see many issues that bother me. Last years coaching gaffs seem questionable but he has explained every screw up to me and I am partially satisfied. His explainations made perfect sense (and that was last year). For this season he has told me about his kicker and punter situation. Again in 3 months it will become obvious if he is off or on. WR volume make good sense if U listen to his plans. One thing U will notice right away is the fact he gets testy when questioned on certain issues. More on this later.
Hell, I would get testy too if I had to defend going for it TWICE on 4th down with his 3rd string QB in the game deep in Weber territory with basically an extra-point FG to take the lead at his disposal! I know he is your good buddy, but he will have to show me something this year to change my early opinion of his coaching abilities. I find it interesting that all of his blatherings early after his signing, and particularly after the big win versus NDSU, suddenly ended following the pathetic losses versus Poly & Weber. And, please remember that we came one miraculous miscue play by ISU from losing another game to Idaho State, which would have prevented us from making the playoffs.
Serious question: If we'd gotten the 4th down against Weber and gotten the first down against CP (and presumably won both of those games), would you be lauding him for his gutsy play calling?
IF...IF...IF! If the rabbit had not stopped to scratch his ass, the fox wouldn't have eaten him! Coaches who make stupid moves like Stitt did are....... former coaches.
Seriously. how cam ANYONE who knows jack about Grizzly football support a coach who loses at home to freakin' Weber state, Cal Poly, and should have lost to Idaho State??? The cumulative records of those three teams was 12-21. We had loads of talent last season, including the FCS defensive player of the year, three great LBs, and three great WRs. Yet, we lost to these teams?????
