Griz vs southern kittens game thread

That'd be because one of the officials, Rastatter, was the lead official. He's one of the best in the country, we were lucky to get him tonight. You can always tell when one of the big boys is officiating a game, always goes so much smoother... Teams aren't all in the double bonus 10 mins into the half.
"Good" referees will try to enforce the rules. "Great" referees let the talent win the game on its merits. I was an Olympic level referee for a recognized Olympic sport for over 25 years, and a national level referee for 35 years. As an "International Referee" -- World Cup, World Championships, Olympic Games -- I was responsible for teaching our "local, state, and national" level refs for 10. It is difficult to describe the "fine-line" difference, but I thought it was there, at UM, tonight.

Wow, what a terrific defensive performance, with added ball distribution. The GRIZ improved their ball movement by leaps and bounds this game. Best ball movement in a long time by the GRIZ, and the results speak for themselves.

I loved how the Griz picked apart Weber even when Weber tried to clog the paint (like Sac and EWU successfully did). Krslovic and Akoh had a ton of great passes inside when they were doubled or unable to put up a shot. That type of ball movement (and moving without the ball) was what was missing against EWU and Sac. Against EWU and Sac it seemed to be once they clogged the paint we started to live and die by the 3 and standing around too much. That wasn't a problem today.

The defense was flat out amazing. Weber was the #2 team in all of D1 in 3 point shooting percentage. They were 2-11 from 3 against the Griz. It wasn't that they were bricking wide open shots either. I guarantee you they wanted to take more than 11 from outside, but everything was contested or shut down by the Griz. The Griz D made Weber's offense look uncomfortable out there & they ended up having to mostly resort to 1 on 1 matchups, fade-aways, occasional acrobatic layups and stuff like that to score.

At the end of the first half Weber had 0 assists. They finished the game with 3 assists on 22 made shots (and 10 turnovers). Compare that to the Griz offense... 22 assists on 31 made buckets.

Very impressive complete game from the Griz where we played to our strengths, were on the attack on both sides of the ball, and didn't didn't let their runs in the first half bother them. The Griz kept attacking even with a significant lead in the 2nd half (didn't get complacent). Great to see the Griz have recovered from that little recent bump in the road.

i see 'they' are letting you out of being band. for now.

Great game! Got back very late last night but it was well worth the drive over the divide. Beyond what has been said and the hyperbole of Sayeed being on par with the nation's elite guards (Sorry, Rule, that's just not the case), the D is legit and really fun to watch. They did a great job of attacking early and getting the bigs from weber to get in foul trouble. Braxton was very frustrated last night but likely all but one foul on him was legit. Fab again proved he's a legit D1 player. Sorry, guys, he's legit good for a mid-major team and he belongs on the court and could start for many teams outside of the power 5 conferences. Really happy for him with the season he's having.

I will add I thought both Chapman and Harding were fantastic last night. Both very hard to stop and very smooth on the way to the basket. Harding especially made some very difficult shots.

Excellent points made, Potomac. Montana's advantage was triggered by their continued outstanding defense. But when this team plays their coach's offensive system from the first pas to the bucket, it's truly amazing to watch. Here's a clip that illustrates that. It's not all that flamboyant, but still results in a dunk. The Griz shredded the Wildcats with play after play like this one. As noted elsewhere, Montana had 22 assists for buckets, compared to just 3 for Weber State. Go Griz.

Sorry if that didn't come out as intended. I was referencing our guard rotation as a whole. Each of them are solid in multiple skill sets of the game, and play great defense. Keep in mind, if the GRIZ make the big dance, there are some teams where Pridgett will be matching up on big guards. Power 5 and high major teams have more 6'4" + guards, which may give our smaller guards a little more trouble. Pridgett's versatility allows him to be used as a guard and forward.

That makes more sense!
