Griz vs Sioux

Great 2nd half. That GRIZ could potentially have a very dangerous perimeter game. Stauds, Young, McGillis, and Selvig all are very capable, but I prefer to see Selvig in the paint. Banny is unreal, or was unreal this game getting rebounds. It looks like Tinkle told him if he wants PT he is there to hustle, rebound, play defense, and if he scores fine, but really looked like he was not looking to score.

Stauds took Tinkle's word to heart this year,Tinks told him to look to shoot more. I doubt if he turned down one shot tonight, and he was only credited with 3 steals, but I recall 4 and looked like he had another one too. I would have liked to seen Qvale get the ball more inside, also a little more meaningful time for Cherry and Ward. In limited minutes they looked very good though.

Other than the W, the best part of the game was Selvig getting a nice rotation. He looked like he was moving okay, just wonder if the pain will show up later?

Nice game GRIZ, nice team play and everyone played their role in the W!!!!

General, this team is much deeper and versatile than any under Tinkle. It will only get better with Selvig getting back healthy, Ward and Cherry maturing. Michael Taylor will give us more versatility and depth as well. Every scholarship player this year can contribute consistently, I am confident in that. This team is light years ahead of last years in the opening game. I was at that game.

We shall see, a much tougher game against Boise State tomorrow night. Go GRIZ!!!!!!!

And the final score was________ :?:
61 - 37.

Tomorrow will be a more higher scoring game. Boise State didn't look as good on defense as North Dakota did, but can score the ball much better.

Regarding Selvig, I was at the game and thought he moved ok but looked rusty. The Griz really played a shaky first half. Besides AJ and a little spurt from Ward, they did not do much offensively. The second half was a different story once the 3s started falling. ND helped by blowing some layups. Vassy Banny played great defense and was a rebounding machine. He really did well getting position for rebounds. He's not tall for a 4 but is strong and can jump. He also plays smart. He has found a home at the 4. :) I think Boise is going to be a lot tougher challenge. They have athletic, strong post players and good team quickness.

Was at the game, too, whiz. I agree with everything you said there. AJ kept the griz in the 1st half and Ward was the spark plug that got them out of their lull. Did you happen to notice how high Jack got up towards the beginning of the game on the offensive board? That guy can leap out of the building. It was good to see the 3s falling, but it's concerning, too. I can't believe I was sitting there asking myself where is the inside game, again? This team looks an awful lot like last years in that they should have a decent inside game but just flat out don't. They may have gotten it to Qvale down low once. Our best big man at should not be the least experienced 6' 7" guy on the floor. However, if Ward can get the results in the paint he got tonight, I will be pleased. He's a stud and with Cherry alongside him, they are the future of Griz basketball. I will say I was happy with Qvale's defensive effort. In case anyone was wondering, he did get a piece of that attempted dunk by UND in the second half, it was a good block. Defensively this team is going to be great. It's the offense I am more worried about, they haven't show too much different from last year. HOWEVER, the one thing I picked up on was they were trying to get AJ shots in the high post area tonight which we didn't see too much last year. I thought that was a good change by Tinkle.

AJ can literally get a shot whenever he wants. He's that good. Second best guard in the Big Sky this decade behind Stuckey. In the sencond half he would get deep into the paint and dish to wide open three point shooters. That will be a trend and we will be hard to beat.

Witness.
