Like I mentioned earlier, SDSU was whooping up on them pretty good 28-7 til the very end of the 3rd with 0:58 UND finally punched another TD in. I didn't watch the game but it sounds like SDSU took their foot off the gas and UND took advantage of it. The TOP was UND 21 mins and SDSU 39 mins. Very lopsided. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the Griz run the score up on them like they did to ISU last season. I know this isn't an ISU team but I think they're capable of doing it.
SDSU NDSU and others keep trying to say SDSU took their foot off the gas. They kept doing the same things they did to get up in the game. UND's defense just woke up and made some changes and got a bunch of stops. We also switched QBs and started rolling and SDSU couldn't do anything until we threw an int in their territory on the last drive. SDSU was being aggressive and trying to catch us off guard with passes, that's not what a team does if they take their foot of the gas.
Did they keep doing what got them up, or did they start trying to pass the ball?
They did the same thing that got them there. They tried pounding the rock. They got stopped. On 3rd and long they had to pass. They had more pass attempts in the first half than the second. They just had more success in the first half. Sumner had 129 of his 157 passing yards at halftime. UND's defense (yes it does exist this year) stepped up. SDSU passed the ball 12 time in the first half and completed 9. They passed 9 times in the second half and completed 1. Zenner had 18 first half carries and 19 second half carries so it's not like they took the air out of the football. UND worked their way back into the game.
Hmmmm... Maybe SDSU didn't take their foot off of the gas, maybe they just started running out. I mean just considering that UND scored once early then couldn't get another one down field til there was only 0:58 left in the 3rd kinda and finally started putting points up kinda makes a guy wonder what happened to either side of the ball, other than the TOP was so lopsided that you know SDSU was pounding on the ground and gaining a lot each play. I'm gonna read the play by play this evening to get a better idea of what happened.

So the new QB stopped SDSU from running the ball all over the place. Oh I get it now.
UND 2 interceptions 1 fumble lost
SDSU 0 and 0
Penalties UND 10 for 107
SDSU 4-24
That was the difference, but here is something people wouldn't expect with such a crappy defense.
3rd down conversions SDSU 4-15

TOP was brought up, but UND ran 62 plays to 70 by SDSU, not that big of a difference, especially when you are looking at passing vs running.

I guess what gets me is the TOP. I can see how penalties like this could destroy your game.

If coaches brin g a good gameplan griz will roll. Don't join the shootout, just steadily kick their asses.

Griz - 41
Undies - 24

He would probably make a pretty good LB at 6'2 230lbs. Once again, the d stepped up and the QB change sparked the offense. Not hard to comprehend.

It was when we're talkin about an unranked team up against the #5 or 6 team in the FCS. Maybe SDSU is overrated??

What gets me is why are you so hung up on time of possession. They ran only 8 more plays. It means nothing. Look at the Denver Broncos vs Baltimore Ravens, the Ravens had about 7:30 more TOP than Denver, what did that get them? a 49-27 loss and a few NFL records set by Manning.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly: Time of possession overrated

Time of possession long has been one of the most overrated statistics in football. It's broken out by lazy announcers who habitually talk about "controlling the ball" without thinking about what that means.

Thankfully, new Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly can make the point better than I can.

"I've heard the question about time of possession, but we've talked about all the time -- time of possession is how much time can the other team waste," Kelly told the Philadelphia media Friday, via CSN Philadelphia. "Most games, we lose the time of possession, but it's how many snaps do you face? And I think in both (preseason) games we've played, we've played more snaps than our other team."

Bill Belichick has said similar things over the years. Points matter. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to score if you score. And it doesn't matter how long you had the ball if you don't score. (The Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions ranked second and third in TOP last season.)

Kelly coached a game last season in which UCLA held the ball for 38:31, and Oregon held the ball for 21:29. Kelly's Ducks won 60-13.

"So all I gathered was that they stand around a lot more (on the field) than we do," Kelly said. "So I think when people look at the time of possession, and that's what people look at automatically ... it's not time of possession. It's plays run is what I look at because you're not exerting any energy if you're just standing in the huddle."

That is literally the only possible conclusion.

Just a likely conclusion is all.

GRIZ defensive coaches have it dialed for this game. Revenge will be sooooo rewarding. We will roll up yards in the run game and wear down their thin O line. Toss in a couple QB sacks, TFL's, picks and fumbles by untested QB's and GRIZ walk away with:

38-17 WIN

No gimme game, thought app. State would have been our first big test, but ND appears to be the IT game

High scoring and hopefully our defense shuts down their passing game for a win.....

This game might just define us. I'm sure the coaches are taking it very seriously. Bottom line......protect the football. Side note...the UM offensive line is very athletic but when Wilson and Hagfors start plowing into people it will open some big holes. Van,Canada and even Counts should have big days. The Grizzlies will have 250+ on the ground and Jones will have a breakout game. This should be a very good football game.

The Griz will not lose to a one-dimensional team this year, period. The key on offense will be protecting the football and converting some key third downs. With JJ, their huge o-line and stable of great backs they should be able to eat up the click and wear down UND's D. On D the key for the Griz will be pressure on the fresh QBs. The Griz front 7 looked great against App, and they will be better this week with Tonga back in action. UND's receivers will no doubt make some plays, but it will not be enough to beat the Griz.

The 2013 Revenge Tour marches on!

Big Griz - 30
Siouxies - 24

First let me say I really respect and think UND fanbase is all round good peoples.

But the bad news for UND fans is this Griz team is talented, motivated and about to open a can of whoop ass on your boys.

Griz 56

UND 17
