Griz vs NAU

Not gonna lie: given where this team was sitting the middle of January, the fact they were even PLAYING tonight is a minor miracle. I had written them off loooooong ago.

While I do agree with most of what you said, you can't go out and get embarrassed by the 2nd worst team in a bad conference in the semis. Last night was a pathetic showing.

When you realize that the difference between the number 1 team and the number 9 team was very small, it shouldn't be very surprising. People want to make a big deal that NAU finished 9th, but I think they were not that much different than EWU other than a little consistency and some breaks.

That and they're playing better than any team in the league right now. Cats are going to have a dog fight tonight.

It's why March Madness is the best thing ever!

Cats are gonna roll. Mark it down. And they better.....because how horrible would it look for the BSC to have it's tournament representative be 9 games under .500. I wonder if that'd be the worst record ever for a tournament team?

Quick edit: NAU would have the worst winning percentage of any tourney team ever if they win tonight. They would be 13-22 for a winning percentage of 37.14. Currently the worst is Florida International in 1995 at 37.93%.

That may be true, but a the same time they might be the conference's best chance at a tournament win in quite a while. If they win tonight, they will most certainly play in the First Four in Dayton against another 16 seed and I think they would probably win. Then the Big Sky can finally end their tournament win drought!

It's very hard for me to consider those games "tournament wins", but I suppose technically....

The Griz weren’t embarrassed. The Griz played well, but NAU played better, especially in second half. NAU has really come on late. Their win over EWU shows very well for them. Too bad Moody didn’t wake up feeling very warm, if not on fire. All of the guys contributed. Too many TO. Couldn’t 3’s to fall early. Congrats to the team’s progression and late season. I am excited for next season.

Just looked at NAU's losses...dang...

They had conference losses by 1,3,5,3,1,1,5,1,1

They win 1/2 those games, they are a top 4/5 team.

They are much better than there record...

Not making excuses, but Sounded like Moody was playing through a foot injury - according to Travis. I imagine that and NAU playing excellent D led to his off night.

Correct - of NAU's last 17 games, they were 7-10, but 5 one point losses (including at both Montana schools), 2 two point losses, a three and a 5 point loss, plus one double-digit loss to EWU.

I think it all comes down to matchups. NAU just seems to match up well with UM. Both have small, quick guards and solid post players. When the matchups are that even, it's just a matter of who gets hot, and when. I think that UM has the better lineup, but that doesn't always carry the day. I think that if you played them 10 times, the Grizz probably win 6 or more. The Jacks picked a great time to get hot.

Personally I'm rooting for nau and the worst winning percentage ever representing the big sky
