Griz vs NAU

Gotta tip your cap to NAU. They got hot at the right time and were riding a huge wave of momentum after beating Eastern. Cone’s a hell of a player and NAU is lucky to have him.

There’s reason to be optimistic next season as we return our top 7 players. Mack graduates and some of the guys who hardly played like Brown, Solomon, Lawrence will likely leave, opening up spots for a transfer or 2. I agree with others that there really wasn’t that much separation between the top and bottom of the BSC. There’s talented guys coming back next year though like Cone, Venters, Darius Brown, Battle, Dillon Jones, etc.

The one thing we’re finally gonna have this off-season that we haven’t had for a while is continuity and a cohesive group. 7 months together in the off-season has the potential to be massively beneficial and I believe we’ll be the only team to return all 5 starters. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks/months but I feel good about the future!

Everyone calm down. We can’t win the title every year. We have a great head coach! 5 star recruits don’t go to the Big Sky, let alone Montana. We live in a tiny town, that’s dark, and cold in the winter and a university that gets you a job at Denny’s after graduation. Everyone thinks we should be Duke or Kansas. The state of Montana won’t allow us to pay a coach a million dollars a year. Most of you on here don’t even go to the games or support the program with one single penny, but everyone is an expert when it comes to basketball. TDC has forgotten more about basketball than any of will ever know. I’m damn proud of this team, but disappointed we lost. Coach K or Roy Williams ain’t coming to town tomorrow. It’s life….Get over it!

If these younger players are leaving, they were poor recruits in the first place. Our bench was one of the worst in all of NCAA basketball, according to bench scoring stats. So, if these kids had any talent, they would have been playing. NAU is a very young team, playing several freshmen. They will be a tough team next season. Us?????? No depth. Limited talent after Moody and the Aussie.

Assuming the top 7 return. Bannan will have Aussie pro options, and can Moody support a family another year?

Solomon and Lawrence aren’t on scholarship so even if they were to leave it does not open up scholarships.

Your post is ignorant. I’ve seen Montana teams compete with and beat Nevadas and Wisconsin….New Mexico. I’ve lived through and watched those teams where the talent level was not much of a difference. These recent Decuire teams look like mid level Big Sky talent. We used to look like mid level big ten or pac 12 talent.

Nobody expects us to be a duke or Kansas like you say. But everyone should expect us to be better than a MSU or Weber or freaking NAU. I remember watching teams beat Damian Lillard when I was in school.

Overall talent in the entire Big Sky is down. Currently, the teams having the most success are the schools that have hit in the portal.

Time for the Bo birds to make their appearance. I’m as disappointed as anyone and I’ve complained as much as anyone this year. But for all the reasons we find fault with individual players and coaches they did not come into this game with a plan to lose.
I do think fatigue played a part, especially in the middle of the second half. But give credit where credit is due, NAU played one hell of a game and they are the real deal, especially Cone.
I do think Travis has an issue with recruiting. I’m not sure what the answer is, player evaluation? Player development seems to be an issue and has been throughout his tenure.
But I don’t feel it’s time for Travis to go. But maybe he needs to reevaluate his assistants? Travis suffers from the same malady as Bobby. He’s too loyal to his assistants. Their the ones who evaluate talent in the recruiting cycle and their the ones responsible for developing players. Pure speculation on my part but I think we’ll see some movement on the staff this year. I’d be surprised if we don’t.

Not gonna lie: given where this team was sitting the middle of January, the fact they were even PLAYING tonight is a minor miracle. I had written them off loooooong ago.

And with everyone back but Mac, this should be a team to be reckoned with next year.

With college sports today, you never know.

That's the thing about UM bball and lately football, it is always "next year". I think for the women's team, that is definitely true. The men, well, a lot of basics have been ignored. Boxing out, screening, crowding the post, throwing the ball into play, and playing aggressively without fouling. Passing the ball around is not going to do much but kill the clock. And, UM lost a lot of games by doing just that for the past two or three years. .
