griz vs NAU

I wonder why they would have an attitude. Have you seen anyone on this team not getting minutes that deserves them? Tinkle has given everyone a chance to show consistant performance and rewards it with time.
I'm wondering if we have too many leaders and not enough followers.

Like Tinks said, there are some guys who think they have the answers. I agree with you, who hasn't had more than enough chances to show what they have. I haven't got as much patience as Tinks when it comes to attitude problems so I would likely have booted a couple guys by now, but that is easy to say on a message board. No, there is no leader. Anywhere.

I don't think we have too many leaders, but some of the upper classmen maybe can't follow the lead of Rundles who has shown he wants that role as has Hasquet. I don't see leadership coming from anyplace else on this team. :twocents:

Not this year. Not until Rundles has another year. People aren't going to follow a true freshman.

Ok, GB, please do not jump all over me. I'm just curious if you or anyone else thought this. Maybe you had to see it but sometimes it felt like Squet wanted to steal a bit of Rundles' thunder. I dunno... there were a couple real iffy transition plays: one where Squet was taking it down guys draped all over him and Cam open in the corner. Jordo keeps it and tosses up a real awkward 3 with guys all over him. There was one more where Cam was in transition, lining someone up at the three point line, waiting for Jordo to spot up under the basket and Squet just sat out at the arc. I dunno, i'm probably just an idiot but these were just a couple weird plays....just was wondering what other people thought. Great games by these two tonight.

I agree on the Rundles leadership thing, my point was he at least wants to take it on and some of these guys can't handle it. In answer to your other question, no I don't see anything close to Jordo doing that. I think Jordo is one of the bright spots on the team. They have all taken some bad shots. I might agree that maybe his was ill advised, but given the situation there were 2-3 guys trying to makes something happen. NAU was clearly the aggressor tonight and deserved to win.

Sharp had been playing well in the latter part of the season in their limited minutes, and that Sharp had come along well since starting in the Cat game.

Where's the attitude problem, or whatever it is? Was the attitude problem in the game or not in the game?
This was one guy i was particularly disappointed with. He had been playing decent and tonight looked like he didn't want anything to do with this game. He checked in, picked up 3 pretty bad fouls in about 40 seconds then untucked his shirt and parked his ass on the end of the bench like that's where he'd rather be anyway.

this game was just as frustrating to me as many other games. some of our players need to get their head out of their asses and play. if u got too much attitude, your ass should be benched. this game was a catastrophe. tinks needs get his head screwed on right and realize that with our talent and potential, playing the way we are is a flat out disaster. the biggest question tonight i can't help but ask is this....WHY IS GREG SPURGETIS ON THE FLOOR WITH SUCH A DECISIVE GAME ON THE LINE??

Because he gives a shit. He works his ass off. I agree that he's not the most skilled player but he and rundles, to me, are the only guys who REALLY love bein out there and would kill for us to win. He's always takin jumpers after practice. Wish all our guys did this.

I'm not blamin this one on Tinks but if I were him I'd pull a Herb Brooks and these guys would keep their jerseys on and stay out on the court after the game. I'd have them working on defense until about 10:30 then after that they would make 1000 FTs then finally be able to go home.

Ugh, disappointing. The Griz had it all in front of them and they're letting this all slip through their fingers... :beer2:

And Matt Martin doesn't give a shit? When Matt's on the floor he gives 100% at all times. The fact that he only got 2 minutes tonight was a joke. I like Greg, but seriously, Martin has proven himself several times as an outstanding shooter that can single-handly turn a game around, or into a blowout. Tinks dropped the ball big time tonight by not giving him a chance - especially when we were down 15. I will argue with anybody that thinks this team is better without Martin.

Tinkle seems lost. This late in the season and he still doesn't have a clue who he is going to play on any given night. He said about 3 times since the Pacific game that "we've found a group of guys that want to go to battle yada yada yada" then he comes out and plays just about everybody again - in some crazy-ass combinations.

I was glad to see Tinks finally set Dlouhy down. His attitude has been terrible this year. LK would have that crap long behind him by this point in the season. Hopefully Dlouhy gets the message and plays like he is capable of playing.

In my opinion, Strait is not the answer. Everybody keeps talking about the double team, but one guy has been stopping him very effectively this year. If he would do a better job of passing the ball back out when he doesn't have a good shot, this team would have much more success. He's had an incredible amount of shots swatted this year. I'm not saying that he shouldn't get the ball, he's definitely a big part of this offense, but I don't think he can carry us like a lot of people seem to expect. :twocents:

What do the Lady Griz do that the men don't?

- Play defense
- Make free throws
- Make the 3 pointer

What do the men do that the women don't?

- Dig a hole (sigh...)

That's an interesting observation, but I didn't see that at all. The 3 that Jordan took in transition was not a good idea - I think he was trying to hit the bomb to swing the momentum our way after his steal. The shot was so far off, I have to believe somebody got a piece of him - he reacted like he got hit. Doesn't matter .. those shots look terrible unless they go in. It was very uncharacteristic of Jordan - he rarely takes bad shots, but in hindsight, that was.

I don't think Jordan wants to steal anybody's thunder. He always seems to be itching to get a good look at a three when he has his feet set out there. He has more than proven his ability from the arc over the past 2 years - if only he could convince a few more of his teammates. I would rather see Jordan shoot an open 3 before anybody else shot something more than a bunny.

Jordan is really good at drifting around the arc and spotting up, but he seems to get stiffed more than anybody. It drives me nuts when he hits a couple huge threes, and then seeming goes invisible and doesn't even get a look for the next 10 minutes.

To think that he would be stiffing Cam is kind of crazy in my opinion. Jordan's very good at getting the ball to the hot hand.

Just amazing how this season is/has played out. 1st half of the year, terrible defense, struggling perimeter game, and ft shooting. 2nd half of the season, defense turned on only after digging a hole, but playing awesome defense much too late, awesome perimeter game, and bad ft shooting still.

The players seem divided as to who will go to war every game, who will when the feel like it, and those that next to never feel like it.
Game in, game out we get great efforts and/or energy from Rundles, Hasquet, Strait, Mayes, Chavez, Ellis, and Martin. We get results from Rundles, Hasquet, Strait, and Mayes of late. Chavez, Ellis, and Martin all seem to work their asses off, but for reasons beyond are inconsistent results wise. One could add Spurgettis to this list, but his efforts go unnoticed due to little court time.

Sharp, Swift, Chase, Staudacher (i like his attitude) just never know what to expect to get in terms of results and/or consistent effort.

Dloughy, going into this year was a very good story that made proved himself worthy of being a scholarship player, a good player at that. Also one of the most funnest athletic players to ever watch play. A fan favorite prior to this year. What the hell has happened to his heart? Does it exist anymore? Is he ready to graduate and just get on with his life? I think we have seen Matt at his best a handful of times this year, very disappointing. Where has the whining and pouting come from at officials, and team mates? Sorry, but he his attitude has done a 180 the past year.

Vanderjagt, he is the one player I feel for. Every other player has been given chances to show what they can or cannot do. Why not Vanderjagt? I can understand the physical and being a freshman part of this equation in most cases. With the way this year is playing out, with the lack of defense, why not try him? His presence certainly would not hurt our Defense, or lack there of! We are burning his FR year for so little PT, wish he had RS'd.

With all that said, the minute we write this season off, this team would show us all up by winning the BSC tourney and be dancing again!!!!! One and done or championship would not surprise me. I will continue to believe in the championship! Yet have given up in a sense. I give up trying to figure this team out, talk about Jeckyl and Hyde. I will continue to cheer this team on!!!

The Griz inside defense this year is the worst I can remember during the 20 plus years I have been going to games. I may be off on this (a result of what I just witnessed) but it is hard to say otherwise. A even greater mystery is why it turned around for much of the second half, with the exception (again) of towards the end. In many ways, this game was very similar to the Pacific game in that there was zero interior defense in the first half. Given we lost zero post players from last season (when we featured pretty decent inside defense), this is really tough to understand. Sir's woes were largely courtesy of Mayes. Also, it seemed our offense and intensity went south whenever Ellis exited the game. We may need to seriously consider a JC pg for next year. Rundles is obviously doing well, but with the loss of Ellis and Mayes next year, we are going to need more guard help. Aside from Rundles, we don't have much successful experience going there. Martin has disappeared and I think his lack of offense and defense are the reasons. The lack of productivity isn't from lack of effort, he just no longer scores and is hurt by his size and lack of quickness on defense. I do not see this team having any consistency right now and don't see them doing much in the tournament. :twocents:

One thing that needs some clarification is Vandy's redshirt year. HE is the one who elected not to redshirt. Tinks sat him down and explained the benefit it would be to him. The Coach cannot force the player to redshirt, and most players listen to what the coach says. I heard that Vandy's mother did not want him to redshirt, but I obviously didn't hear it from her so it is a rumor. I just don't want this blamed on Tinks when it wasn't his doing. :twocents:

I agree with alot of what people are saying here tonight. The team does look lost. The player rotation tonight was horrible. Nothing against Spurgetis (sp) he is probably one of the hardest workers at practice and at times deserves to play. However like someone said this was a a big game. He has played maybe a total of 5 mintues all season.

Sharp, Chavez, Swift and Martin have all contributed this year yet they are left sitting on the pine. Seems to be a lot of attitude problems on this team from what I am hearing. Dloughy gets his 3rd foul early in the 2nd then just walks off the floor after being replaced. I think Larry would have ripped his ass for doing that last year. I think Tinks has potential as a coach but I dont' think he is tough enought. Last year he was the peace maker between LK and refs this year he needed to toughen up. Some times I think he should just get a Technical just to light a fire under his players.

Another thing that bugs me to death is the assistant coaches. Nate and Marsou for the most part sit and do thier job, talk to players as they come off the bench. Then you have your third assistant Andy Hill jumping up and down yelling at the refs along with Tinkle. Tonight he ripped off his tie and jacket over a bad call. If I was Tinkle I would have a talking to him and tell him to sit down and shut up. He is the 3rd Assistant for god sake!!

Griz need to show a little heart these last two regular season games and get ready for the tourney. They have gone in the underdog before and have won the thing but this year's squad is going to need to step it up.

More than Dlouhy, i think tinks should've gone bobby knight on sharpie. i would've given one of those pops on the chin after that real poor effort tonight.

I guess I need to pay attention to my typing and wording. I meant

"Also one of the funnest and most athletic player to every watch play........."

Also to add I see another egrizzer agrees with me about Dlouhy.

I agree that Martin does care and works his ass off. I fail to understand why both Hasquet and Martin can hit a few 3's then disappear from touching the ball for much too long!

I don't think Sharp got a very fair shake tonight. He probably plays the best post defense of anybody - primarily because he is not afraid to foul. He knows he could never get enough minutes to foul out, so he goes balls out and doesn't give up anything easy. I would like to see him get a lot more minutes. I would give him a lot of Dlouhy's minutes and let him give Strait a breather a couple times a game as well.

You can tell that Hasquet is so afraid of getting into foul trouble that he doesn't contest inside shots as much as he would like to. I don't blame him, this team wouldn't beat anybody without him.

Strait's post defense is not very good at all. I guess I didn't notice it much when he was getting 18-20 pts a game, but lately, that's all I see. He got beat for a bunch of bunnies tonight.

Hell, I'm with MTGRIZRULE, give Vandy a shot. There's no way in hell our post defense could get any worse. Especially since nobody plays help defense when Andrew or Jordan get posted up. Criz was a master of collapsing down and stripping balls away from the post. You just don't see anybody do that this year. If we are going to play behind post players, we might as well have a 7-footer standing in there. He must not show much in practice, because by the looks of it, Tinkle is willing to play everybody these days. :twocents:
