I agree with alot of what people are saying here tonight. The team does look lost. The player rotation tonight was horrible. Nothing against Spurgetis (sp) he is probably one of the hardest workers at practice and at times deserves to play. However like someone said this was a a big game. He has played maybe a total of 5 mintues all season.

Sharp, Chavez, Swift and Martin have all contributed this year yet they are left sitting on the pine. Seems to be a lot of attitude problems on this team from what I am hearing. Dloughy gets his 3rd foul early in the 2nd then just walks off the floor after being replaced. I think Larry would have ripped his ass for doing that last year. I think Tinks has potential as a coach but I dont' think he is tough enought. Last year he was the peace maker between LK and refs this year he needed to toughen up. Some times I think he should just get a Technical just to light a fire under his players.

Another thing that bugs me to death is the assistant coaches. Nate and Marsou for the most part sit and do thier job, talk to players as they come off the bench. Then you have your third assistant Andy Hill jumping up and down yelling at the refs along with Tinkle. Tonight he ripped off his tie and jacket over a bad call. If I was Tinkle I would have a talking to him and tell him to sit down and shut up. He is the 3rd Assistant for god sake!!

Griz need to show a little heart these last two regular season games and get ready for the tourney. They have gone in the underdog before and have won the thing but this year's squad is going to need to step it up.

More than Dlouhy, i think tinks should've gone bobby knight on sharpie. i would've given one of those pops on the chin after that real poor effort tonight.

I don't think Sharp got a very fair shake tonight. He probably plays the best post defense of anybody - primarily because he is not afraid to foul. He knows he could never get enough minutes to foul out, so he goes balls out and doesn't give up anything easy. I would like to see him get a lot more minutes. I would give him a lot of Dlouhy's minutes and let him give Strait a breather a couple times a game as well.

You can tell that Hasquet is so afraid of getting into foul trouble that he doesn't contest inside shots as much as he would like to. I don't blame him, this team wouldn't beat anybody without him.

Strait's post defense is not very good at all. I guess I didn't notice it much when he was getting 18-20 pts a game, but lately, that's all I see. He got beat for a bunch of bunnies tonight.

Hell, I'm with MTGRIZRULE, give Vandy a shot. There's no way in hell our post defense could get any worse. Especially since nobody plays help defense when Andrew or Jordan get posted up. Criz was a master of collapsing down and stripping balls away from the post. You just don't see anybody do that this year. If we are going to play behind post players, we might as well have a 7-footer standing in there. He must not show much in practice, because by the looks of it, Tinkle is willing to play everybody these days. :twocents:

he had 3 pretty lazy fouls in about 45 seconds. it would've only taken about 30 more seconds for him to foul out. after seeing the way he walked off the court i would've sat him too... after getting a handful of jersey and giving him a good talking to.

I guess I need to pay attention to my typing and wording. I meant

"Also one of the funnest and most athletic player to every watch play........."

Also to add I see another egrizzer agrees with me about Dlouhy.

I agree that Martin does care and works his ass off. I fail to understand why both Hasquet and Martin can hit a few 3's then disappear from touching the ball for much too long!

The Griz should take lessons from the teams we play. When somebody gets hot, they keep getting that guy the ball. The Griz have plenty of great shooters, they just don't do a very good job of getting the ball to the right guy. I'm not saying the hot guy needs to shoot it everytime he touches it, but he needs to get involved - if for no other reason than to make the guy guarding him work a little.

Yeah, but I think it was digust for the offical, rather than his coach. I could tell what poor Sharpie was thinking: after a good stretch over the past few games had garnered him some more quality minutes, now he's back to his 5 minute per half BS while Dlouhy gets to half-ass it and play 30 minutes a game.

Amazing, many people are being hard on Dlouhy, for most of the year I was feeling like very alone on being hard on him. I honestly would be benching Dlouhy's ass permanently, for attitude alone. Maybe the NAU game was the one when Tinks finally had enough of it too, or at the very least made a point to give him his wake up call! How nice would it be to have Dlouhy and Mayes the whole year at 100%, mentally and physically? Talent and athletically, that is quite a combination!!! Can it still happen come BSC tourney?

I know Greg may not be the most talented player on the floor and everyone seems to be dogging him but he did step in and hit that three at the end of the first half that really gave the team a boost. If he doesn't hit it the team probably folds, down 16 with no momentum.

Every team needs what Spurgettis brings to it! I was glad to see him play tonight. He played well, with the exception of 1 turnover. I will not be one bit surprised to see Greg be one hell of a coach down the road. Overachieving, hard working players, tend to make very good coaches when the playing days are over.

10, I will correct myself on part of my statement. Yes he does talk to players and that is something I should have mentioned along with the other assistants. However I do think his ripping off the tie and jacket antics he pulls (seems like every game) are not needed. Let the head coach handle the refs, instead you have two coaches going after them. I am actually amazed the officials put up with it. I have been to other college games outside of the big sky and they don't put up with that.

So 10, thank you for catching me on not giving credit to Hill when he talks to the players.

From Tinkle about Martin in the Missoulian...

“I went to put him in at one point and couldn't find him, so we went with (Greg) Spurgetis.”

What does that mean? I'm sorry, but the bench is not that big. If you really want a guy in the game, you'll "find" him on the bench and put him in. IMHO, Tinkle is failing. He has lost control of this team. I sincerely wish him and the rest of the team the best and hope they can pull something out and win the tournament, but I am having serious doubts right now that we'll even win our first game. It has been a dissapointing season after we had such high expectations.

Every quote in the Missoulian was reminiscent of a lost team...They need some leadership right now, I hope Tinkle is ready to step up and deliver some or this team is done...

the answer my sons is simple. wt's problem is with his inflection on the euphemism "gawd dammit"that alone combined with the proper body language brings respect w/o being demeaning or de-
moralizing. it starts at practice and is polished at game time.
LK had it good!
Holst had the "gawd dammit" but no body language
What's his name from old dominion had it to a degree?
Monte was a master.
but the granddaddy of them all was "JUD" baby
it' time for wt to stop being friends with these kids, go to the corner
cross his arms and "gawd dammit" let them know what he wants
they can still deliver. keep the faith "gawd dammit"
now i have to run cuz i know gb1 has to get on here and kick my
ass, it never fails but before i leave i just havta say

IRISH FOREVER

"... and couldn't find him, ..." that's BS. He never has any trouble finding Dlouhy down at then end of bench when he wanders off the floor and sits down - and doesn't hardly peak his head into the huddle during time outs. Martin is the first guy off the bench to slap fives during time outs, and he always participates in the huddle. He has apparently fallen out of favor with Tinks, which happens - Tinkle needs to find a better answer next time, because I don't believe that one. He's probably the easiest guy to find on that bench.

I wasn't at the game last night, and the coverage on bigsky doesn't show the bench that often so I have no idea if Martin was there or not. I can tell you that a player leaving the bench does happen, even though you are supposed to have not only your coaches permission, but the officials too. If (not saying he did)he left pissed over playing time, then he should be suspended. It happened under Taylor and Holst, and the player was suspended and not allowed back on the team until a team vote and punishment. I am NOT saying Martin is guilty of it, but anything is possible. If someone was there and sitting near the Griz bench maybe they know.

All I can say is that everytime I looked at the bench, Martin was there, and not so hard to find. But, that doesn't mean that the one time Wayne looked, Martin was there. Maybe that one point Wayne looked and I didn't, Martin wasn't there.

I really don't buy any of it. I find it very hard to believe that Martin was not on the bench for whatever reason. If Tinke wanted to put him in he would have. There's obviously something else going on here. I realize that some things have to be kept within the walls of the locker room so I it's not surprising that Tinkle won't give us the real reason he didn't put Martin back in, but don't make up crap about not being able to find him on the bench. It just doesn't fly.

It's pretty obvious that there's more to the story than "I couldn't find him" on the bench. Unless you're in practice with the team five days a week, it's all idle speculation to try and figure out why Martin didn't get more minutes. There seems to be a "war of wills" going on. We know who wins that battle every time. Tinkle's not being tough enough? I doubt Martin would agree with that right now.

Perhaps Tinkle did PHYSICALLY see Martin, but was he (Martin) MENTALLY there and ready to contribute???????

This was my guess when I read that comment. I assumed that Tinks could see Martin wasn't into the game the way he thought he should be.

My frustration levels are quite high with this team. Thank God for Rob and Lady Griz.
