Anybody happen to notice who the leading scorer, second leading rebounder, and second leading assist man for Griz in the Long Beach game was?? And made three of four free throws down the stretch. Who was guy the Griz threw the ball in against the furious, man-to-man full court press. LAGriz doesn't want to discuss that. He only wants to beat up on someone that has limited playing time due to ankle sprain.

Not only that but he's equal opportunity when the most successful coach in Montana history, Big Sky and the nation for that matter loses in the NCAAs, he goes off on another member of the Selvig family saying "the game has passed him by."
I am not LAGriz, but apparently share the sentiment..If I were 7 ft, raised to play bball, and could only muster a handful of points, i might think differently. Selvig has a role on this team, more to intimidate, but rarely performs as much as his fans think...he is prone to illness and injury for some reason...As for the other quote....yes, the game passes him by more often than not..why do you make this personal...We have been trying to put the best 5 on the floor for years..if Tinkle thinks that is Selvig, he must see something that rarely show up on game day...I'd very much like Selvig to be the guy to take UM over Weber, Oregon State, but he is not consistent and far from being a power player...I hope to meet LAGriz. Fun to watch all you people....
its interesting, you say he has a roll on this team, then it more sounds like you expect him to be a dominate force.... he plays his roll...he isnt expacted to go out and get 28 and 20 every game. He is a 7 footer yes, that doesnt mean we need him to be dwight howard for him to be conciderd valuable. He is a good jump shooter, can get his shot when ever he wants it... i know he isnt dominate but he definatly plays a big roll on this team.

The refs talked to me before the game and said they do mostly PAC-12 games. I think they stunk for the most part, more against us, but that one call out of bounds on the N end in our favor was definitely wrong. They owed us two, so I guess it's ok. I always wanted Selvig to play like LBS #20 but we just have to realize that isn't who he is as a player. Selvig should definitly start and kept us in the game in the first half when LBS went on a run. We get down by 12-15 and the result could have been a blowout with the young players we have. I think the frosh showed up tonight and now they believe because they actually got a huge win, not a close loss. I am excited for this year's team.

Yes it seemed like there were calls against the Griz that were questionable, but towards end of the game worst call went against Long Beach when Griz were fighting over a missed free throw and went out of bounds but back to the Grizzlies. I was sitting on the north end and there's no way a LB player could have knocked it out. Actually it seemed like a game of makeup calls.

Griz definitely knocked it out, but the LB player was definitely over the back and caused it with the contact.

DeSheilds is the real deal. This is the first time I have seen him play. It is great to see a Freshman with his ability and attitude.

Ward impressed me with his defense the few times he was guarding Robinson. Robinson tried to back him down and Ward stood his ground. Selvig was backing off. Even though Ward gave away height he was solid defensively.

Selvig came through in many clutch situations, but then he does some odd things. He passes up too many shots either to pass or pump fake and drive. He needs to be more selfish.

watched online and agree with a lot of things on here, and disagree with others. I think Selvig is the leader of this team right now. all one has to do is take a look at what happenned when Selvig got hurt, no one stepped up to take the lead. Cherry is capable of leding, but when he is off his game, he backs off, which is when he needs to do other things like lead with defense, and not force it on offense. when he lets the game come to him, he is much better.

Keron Deshields is going to be more and more involved. he already plays circles around Stockton and Woods. Those two are good guys, and are not cancers, so having 2 SR's on the bench shouldn't be a problem because that is where those two are going to be.

Steward needs to step his game up. so far this season he hasn't been the same player, but the physcial mismatches don't help, especially when the Griz take on athletic teams like LBSU.

Reader has the tools, he just needs experience and a lot of work on the defensive end. Hutch is working his ass off, but needs to slow down, he gets in such a hurry to make a post move, he ends up off balance and makes it much harder than it needs to be. That being said, he has done more than I thought he would so kudos to the coaching staff. he still needs a ton of work, but who knows. I am not sold on him yet though.

Jamar is the silent assassin out there. He just does his job, doesn't force it, and maintains an even keel emotionally.

I am not sure what is the plan for Gregory and Henderson, whether one or both will redshirt, but I am sure they both have bright futures. much more athletic than the recruits UM was getting of late, ie Stockton and Woods.

Weber State is a beast though, and every bit as tough as LBSU imo. The BSC should be fun this year.

It's either UM ball or an over the back. I am not saying it was right, but they got the possession correct. There was another call that looked at first glance to be UMs ball, but after the replay it was clearly off Billy Reader and the call was correct. These refs were not better or worse than any others we have seen in Dahlberg. It is the nature of the beast unfortunately.

Reader got some minutes last year, but still redshirted. It's a percentage of their team's games, not an all-or-nothing thing. If they play in less than 15% of their teams games, or something like that, they can redshirt.

This is correct.

Incorrect. Reader utilized his medical hardship- (redshirt) because he was injured, and played in less than 30% of total games. There is no way for Henderson or Gregory to Redshirt.

Bingo. Always bet on Purple. Exactly right, WSU. I know it was talked about last year after Billy was injured, I think if he had played one more half than he already had, he wouldn't have been able to redshirt. (Or we could have added a post-tourney game, right, WSU? ;) )

Henderson and Gregory have long since burned their redshirt. One play in football and just checking into the game once in basketball constitutes a year played.

PeauxRogue and WSU are right on Reader. He was a medical redshirt and that allows for a certain amount of time played.

I thought going into the year that for the three freshman this might actually be a good year to redshirt. Generally, to me, redshirting seems like it would be a bit of a bummer and really test the nerves and dedication. I thought playing time would be limited with having a couple SR's coming off the bench. Of course Wood has since lost his groove and for better or worse that has made some more time available. Deshields has snatched it all up and been playing great and looks like a hell of a find. (proving the skeptics from when he signed wrong. myself included  ) Not sure if the minutes will pick up much for the other two either. Henderson might get some more but with Gregory playing the same spot as Keron I think he might be kind of stuck.

The Griz are so much better with Selvig on the bench...I wish he were better, but he just isn't..I understand why the coaching staff likes him but it doesn't translate on the field.

Not Selvig who is hurting this team tonight....this is wrong on so many levels.
guess we have different expectations....

Yeah guess so, I want to win games...Cherry had ZERO points at the half. Rag on him for awhile. The Selvig hate is getting VERY old.

Thank God you said that ordigger because people like GrizLA just like to sit there and hate on him every game. thats pathetic....

If you haven't hit ignore button on GrizLA & Growler1, you're missing out.

They don't know jack about hoops. I would love to have Selvig on Weber's team...

No. I don't know squat about BB. I guess John DeBerry, who was an assistant BB coach for Hawaii and UTEP and who sat with me at last year's Griz/NAU game in Flagstaff doesn't know squat either. He shared my sentiments about Selvig. Slow Feet. Dribbles too much. Gets muscled down low. No passion for rebounding. No inside game. Strictly a "3" shooter. We should all just yield to the geniuses on this board who watch Selvig have one decent game, and think he can do anything except shoot the "3", and who disappear when Selvig lays an egg like he does in so many games.

I don't have any agenda against Selvig. I merely state his strengths and weaknesses, and the Kool-Aid drinkers can't handle reading the truth.

I'll take the views of the 4 coaches who work with Selvig every day, the views of former UM assistants wh have worked with Selvig, and the views of the seemingly knowledgeable fans who attend attend games--over you and some Hawaii asst coach (who probably has seen Selvig play once). If DeBerry would even sit next to someone like you, he probably doesn't know what he's talking about. In fact, from looking at what you said he said (if that's in fact what he said), it's evident that DeBerry doesn't know what he's talking about. Strictly a 3-pt shooter. Now that's pretty funny.

Interesting, I did not know that..........So Lillard got a medical redshirt because he never used his red shirt??? These red shirt/medical redshirt rules and regulations are a pain in my ass.. :thumb:
