They really needed this win at home....ironically the spread was 2, with the Beach favored....Reader and Cherry, nice balance..Hutchinson, when in control, is a real player...if he can control the fouls, he is going to be solid....great win for the Griz...nice crowd, too.

We lost one we should not have against ND, and won one we were not expecting to win. Difference in this game was Will Cherry dominating the game on both ends of the court in the 2nd half. He totally out played Casper Ware in the 2nd half.

Nice games from Deshields, Reader, Ward, and Selvig. Jamar's scoring was off, but he contributed with great defense, and nice passing too. This was a great W.

Nice win by the Griz...nice to see our leaders step up in crunch time. Their board is talking about how their senior leadership failed them this game.

Griz shooting 26 - 51 for 51 % FG must've helped as well. Of course, I don't know how to take this one. Defeating a team that defeated Pittsburgh that now stands #17 in the AP Poll sounds pretty impressive. Hope it wasn't a homer ref game.

Montana rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit to beat Long Beach State, 73-71, in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night in front of 3,529 fans at Dahlberg Arena.

Long Beach (3-2) led 44-34 early in the second half before the Griz rallied to a seven-point, 64-57, lead. A layup by Will Cherry gave the Griz the lead for good at 69-68 with 30 seconds to play. The Griz (4-2) held off the 49ers from there at the free-throw line.

Derek Selvig led the Griz with 14 points, Cherry added 13 and Kareem Jamar had 12.

T.J. Robinson led Long Beach with 27.

What radio station is Griz mens bball on this year?
The pre-game was on KGVO, when I returned to the car after the game, Art Bell :? was on instead of Mick Holein. I don't know when the game disappeared. This happened the last home game too. This was a big win against one awfully talented team. Will did make a huge difference in the second half  ! We got decent post play too, including Derek, who I think might have been sick in the first half. Keron continues to impress and now seems to be (and deserves to be) the first guard off of the bench.

Great win by the Griz. Cherry really frustrated Ware all night. If anything, I think we got slightly jobbed by the refs. Two calls where they lost the ball out of bounds were called in their favor at crunch time. One three feet from my face. All of us, including President Royce Engstrom howled in disbelief.

Just got back, very fun game. LBSU killed the Griz underneath with some pick and rolls that worked really well for quite some time. Officiating was... uh... a little lopsided but the Griz fought through it.

Really liked what I saw from the top 4 guards the Griz have, Cherry, Steward, Jamar, and DeSheilds.

It was a fun 2nd half of the game. LBSU was on the line ALL day long, but the Griz answered all of their free-throws with made shots and some inspired play.

Anybody happen to notice who the leading scorer, second leading rebounder, and second leading assist man for Griz in the Long Beach game was?? And made three of four free throws down the stretch. Who was guy the Griz threw the ball in against the furious, man-to-man full court press. LAGriz doesn't want to discuss that. He only wants to beat up on someone that has limited playing time due to ankle sprain.

Not only that but he's equal opportunity when the most successful coach in Montana history, Big Sky and the nation for that matter loses in the NCAAs, he goes off on another member of the Selvig family saying "the game has passed him by."

Yes it seemed like there were calls against the Griz that were questionable, but towards end of the game worst call went against Long Beach when Griz were fighting over a missed free throw and went out of bounds but back to the Grizzlies. I was sitting on the north end and there's no way a LB player could have knocked it out. Actually it seemed like a game of makeup calls.

Exciting game and great win for the Griz. It was a team victory. This team is very exciting, very good, and improving every week. Watch out as the season goes on.

Cherry hit a big 3, a big 2 and 4 free throws later in the game, and played terrific defense. UM shot a nice percentage, because of some terrific feeds to the big men. I was surprised to see that there were 16 turnovers by UM, but many of them were reasonable attempts to get the ball inside.

Anyone who doesn't think Selvig is a good player and very valuable to this team doesn't have a clue about the game of basketball. Team high 14 points tonight and 7 rebounds..

The refs, especially one of them, were absolutely awful. One ref, the black Kojack, got almost every call he made wrong, regardless of the team the call went against. He was terrible.

When Cherry had to sit at 10 in the first half with two fouls, DeShields played well and gave the team a big lift in the first half. He's a player at both end of the court. The big guys all played well, in their own way, especially Ward. Don't know why he didn't start.

LBS is very good. Robinson, no. 20, had a big game on offense and the boards (25 and 13). I really like LBS. They are good, they play hard, and they don't complain. I hope they beat Memphis. I will follow LBS this year, because they are good, play hard, and don't whine.

The crowd of 3500 was a pretty good crowd, but there should have been alot more fans there.

I am not LAGriz, but apparently share the sentiment..If I were 7 ft, raised to play bball, and could only muster a handful of points, i might think differently. Selvig has a role on this team, more to intimidate, but rarely performs as much as his fans think...he is prone to illness and injury for some reason...As for the other quote....yes, the game passes him by more often than not..why do you make this personal...We have been trying to put the best 5 on the floor for years..if Tinkle thinks that is Selvig, he must see something that rarely show up on game day...I'd very much like Selvig to be the guy to take UM over Weber, Oregon State, but he is not consistent and far from being a power player...I hope to meet LAGriz. Fun to watch all you people....

I agree, any one who doesn't think Selvig is "vauable" to this team just doesn't know anything...thus speaketh the lord. But, guess we describe "valuable" differently....

Just rewatching this game. Glad we had Selvig out there. He absolutely kept the Griz on pace with LBS early in the game. Couple two-pointers as well as a nice looking three-pointer right off the hop. It is a shame we have never him healthy for an entire season but he does well despite that adversity.

Love that we have Keron. It seems that he is exactly what we were expecting/hoping for with Vaughn Autry. Good shooter, pesky defender and a spark plug when we need him.

Billy Reader is the future in the paint. Not even that. He is the present. Love his attitude and his fire. He has solid moves down low. Anyone else think he is going to get himself T'd up a handful of times, though? The guy seems to let his emotions run a little too high from time to time.

It's too bad that Wood hasn't been able to come around this season. I really liked everything about him last year aside from the misses. He always got such good looks and just couldn't get them down. Tinkle must have really believed in that guy or he wouldn't be back on the team this year. I guess it's just the power of the mental aspect of the game. Not sure how he can't get his head out of this funk, but if it lasts more than a year, it seems it may never leave.

It's great to see that these guys, when having an off night shooting, are able to get others involved, a la Jamar tonight. Later in the season that will pay dividends when we aren't just hoping and praying for Cherry/Qvale to bail us out like we had to last year.

Good crowd tonight! Wish more had shown up, but they were finally vocal and got fired up! Be nice for the Griz to start bringing in 4k or 5k a night. Keep winning and that should happen.

I saw on twitter that this was the first game for the color guy tonight on BSTV and that he had not been drinking. I must say his voice did sound like a guy who had been drinking and smoking cigars. These freebie play by play guys have gotten much better, though, since their start last year.

Go Griz!
