No. I don't know squat about BB. I guess John DeBerry, who was an assistant BB coach for Hawaii and UTEP and who sat with me at last year's Griz/NAU game in Flagstaff doesn't know squat either. He shared my sentiments about Selvig. Slow Feet. Dribbles too much. Gets muscled down low. No passion for rebounding. No inside game. Strictly a "3" shooter. We should all just yield to the geniuses on this board who watch Selvig have one decent game, and think he can do anything except shoot the "3", and who disappear when Selvig lays an egg like he does in so many games.

I don't have any agenda against Selvig. I merely state his strengths and weaknesses, and the Kool-Aid drinkers can't handle reading the truth.

I'll take the views of the 4 coaches who work with Selvig every day, the views of former UM assistants wh have worked with Selvig, and the views of the seemingly knowledgeable fans who attend attend games--over you and some Hawaii asst coach (who probably has seen Selvig play once). If DeBerry would even sit next to someone like you, he probably doesn't know what he's talking about. In fact, from looking at what you said he said (if that's in fact what he said), it's evident that DeBerry doesn't know what he's talking about. Strictly a 3-pt shooter. Now that's pretty funny.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Oh, I forgot, having played flag football makes you an authority on basketball too. Go chase some young athletes around and try to impress them. You don't impress anyone with basketball knowledge. You are the biggest Kool-Aid drinker in Grizland. But you only drink the grape flavor.

he seems to have improved every year he's been with you guys. he's bulked up and plays in the paint more. when watching your offense, many times it seems as though he's not supposed to be banging in the paint. the game is changing. just because you're taller than 6'8 doesn't mean you HAVE to play in the post anymore. i'd agree there are times that he'd be better suited not putting the ball on the floor. but as for talent and improvement....he's very good in this conference. i don;t think he'd be starting for duke, but he's a great player at our level and a guy that every coach in our league would start immediately....

Whatever. I have not seen him play this season, but based on what I saw last year, he has zero inside game. Some 6'6" players play like 7-footers. Some 7-footers play like 6'6" players. We know which group Selvig belongs in.

Alright, you stubborn old prick quit being so negative :thumb: you are an interesting read, but do you realize that taller players have learned how to shoot from long distances over the years??? Especially at our level in college basketball. THE GAME HAS CHANGED. Selvig has an OK (not great) inside game, it is definitely not great by any means, but next to Reader, and Hutch it is all we have, and it is acceptable. Selvig actually has a great turn around jumper, and a great mid-range pop up/catch and shoot game. You are correct in saying he doesn't have much of a post up game, but neither does Mathias Ward, but I don't see you blasting him. You saying Selvig is one dimensional is odd. Look on the Defensive side of it........His length alone causes teams to adjust. If you want to go one dimensional, I think Qvale was more one dimensional than Selvig, but Qvale excelled at his position. If you are looking for another Qvale, Engellant, Samuelson, or Kempfert with great baby jump hook's you will have to wait for Reader or Hutch to emerge.......It will be Reader IMO, and that time is coming soon........hell we are already seeing it, and he has a great coach for it........Take Selvig for his strength's. You cannot tell me if you were the head ball coach at the U of M you wouldn't take Selvig in a heartbeat. Tinkle learned with Hasquet, that you cant force a big guy who can shoot an outside shot under the hoop.

Just remember, if Selvig had an great inside game, bulked up, and up the 3 percentage, he would probably be in the NBA, and not playing with the Grizzlies.

I would like to see some objectivity here (which I have never read from you). Here is mine, We know that Selvig doesn't have much of a post game, but that has never been his game. We know that Selvig's brain can get the best of his which accounts for his occasional inconsistencies. We know that Selvig can shoot the 3. We know that Selvig has a great mid-range game. We know that Selvig can run the floor extremely well for a 7' er. We know that Selvig is hands down the best passer on the team. We know that Selvigs length plays a big factor in games. We know that Selvig is usually good for 5-6 rebounds a game. Most everyone, except for one, believe's that the Griz are a better team with Selvig on the floor. There, there are pro's and con's regarding Selvig's game. Here is your exercise; If you can present a decent argument to me, and prove, that I have no clue what I am talking about, good for you, but I don't think you can present a persuasive argument........No, your friends opinions don't count, and I will take into account that you don't watch the games either.....Lets hear it "little dittie" (whatever the eff that is)
