Impressed with the defense and attitude of the team. they seem to be a very close knit team with abundant comraderie. lots of encouragement goin around in every way.
That being said are offense didnt look great. but i think it was a bit misleading due to a lot of missed, makeable shots.
BQ: played more aggressive offensively with a little added polish on his post moves. still puts the ball on the floor to much underneath and will miss some makeable shots but should be the best bigman in the league. very good defensively as always.
Selvig: looked tenative and settled for jumpers on the few occasions he shot. he passed up good looks to try to pass it off and needs to look for his shot a little more. made some plays harder than they had to be. he is gonna have a huge role in the offense though out of the high post. he is going to get a lot of other players easy buckets. incredible court vision period regardless of size. easily the best passer on the team. he will be a big weapon as long as he stays healthy. lengthy on deffense, he and bq are gonna block some shots.
Wood: gonna play a much bigger role than i expected. VERY impressed with his court sense and demeanor. quick release, shots werent falling but he doesnt hesitate, very confident. smart player, good defender. i think by the end of the year he will be a more effective version of stauds. not quite the shooter but a much better game off the bounce, quicker release, and a little better athelete. suprise of the newcomers so far.
Cherry: airballed his first FT and seemed to snowball from there. visibly frustrated with himself. no worries though he took his anger out on them (and the rim) on the defensive end. outstanding anticipation, total nightmare for opposing guards. gonna be a beast. elite athelete in the big sky.
Steward: also impressive, very active tenacious defender. gonna get us a lot of extra posessions and garbage points. like banny with a lot more ball skills.
Reader: limited playing time. impressive looking frame, looks to be a big 6'9". really needs strength tho he is fearless inside and has some polish in the post. tough call depends on what they think of hutch i guess. could certainly use a redshirt. no where near the player he will be as a redshirt senior. but could contribute some. very high ceiling.
Stockton: Steady, solid, we know wut he is.
Adasms: limited time, not as far along as the other two jcs. plays a bit out of control but always hustle. got in late hit a three rite away, then promptly took an ill advised three. he is a natural scorer so it may take he a little time to find his nitch. can shoot it and drive it.
Hutch: limited time, long, jangly, goofy, mean, and effective. coaches shouted compliments to him a few times. a garbage man who will do the dirty work and can finnish inside. not much of a post game.
Ward: Is gonna have a ton of his FGA's blocked but is fearless and will gather and go right back up. he is gonna score his points inside through sheer determination and soft touch. a tad undersized and not explosive, he throws his body around and uses solid positioning and footwork. had a SWEET fast break drive to the hoop that got the bench goin nuts.
Autry: Good kid, vocal, athletic, coachable, but he just does not have a feel for running the point on offense. solid defender who gives maximum effort but his decision making and understanding of the game from that position are not where they need to be. tinkl e upset with him about turnovers int the scrimmage as well as tonite. would love to redshirt him but i dont know if we will be able to. he is gonna be a very good player in the future. we shall see, very excited he is a griz.
Jamar: LOVE the kid. didnt stand out but you can just tell. has a very good mid range game, his three ball wasnt dropping but he has solid form. going to be a VERY good defender. is capable of being a star but also does all the little things that coaches love. Very lucky to have this kid here.
Weisnar: DNP
Farnesworth: DNP
Probably gonna be rough and tumble early on. but this team has HUGE potential and seemingly the right attitude tho get rollin come conference. gonna be a fun team to watch easily the most athletic team tinkle has had and there will be a much higher emphasis on pushing the tempo and gettig out on the break offensively and usig more extended pressure defenses.
