I think Reader is the guy they need to step up this season.

Because we're missing 1 "big" (1 player) and have 3 other "bigs", we can't play more up-tempo? Or is it just lettin the young-uns' get a few more games in them before pushing tempo more? I'm not questioning the coaching, I'm just curious is all.mtgrizrule said:MissoulaMarinerFan said:Stocks w/a huge 3! 3:54 left, Griz up 53-47. Looks like we may live and die by 3 ball and outside jumpers this year. I'd think we'd play more up tempo. Seems like we've just been passing the ball along the perimeter, thinking Q is magically gonna be down low, then chucking a jumper. Maybe Tinks will have them start pushing the ball more later in the year.
As the young guys get more experience, and we get Selvig back, we will have the depth to cater to more uptempo.
Word. I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. :thumb:PeauxRouge said:A win is a win! Great job getting it done, Griz! Keep getting better, there were some good things to take away from that win and more to work on! Only going to get better!
OK...at least it is something to build on....the good news about this game is that Idaho is not NAIA....PeauxRouge said:A win is a win! Great job getting it done, Griz! Keep getting better, there were some good things to take away from that win and more to work on! Only going to get better!
I gotcha. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain it. Thanks for the lesson, teach!mtgrizrule said:To play uptempo, we do not have the depth in place yet. We need a solid rotation of 4 bigs to man Center and PF, With Selvig out, we do not have it. Especially more so, with our bigs being foul prone so far. Also would be nice to find a 4th guard to go with Cherry, Jamar, and Stockton. Hard to rely on Wood with his inconsistent play. We are fine at SF to play uptempo, Steward, Jamar, and Weisner is a great SF combo.
I believe once the GRIZ find out how healthy Selvig is, we will begin to see more uptempo, at the very least more pressure in the half court defense.

While i completely agree with you we need patience but, Hutch should be comared (not that he should be compared at all, little unfair) to BQ as a junior and is a complete shell of what BQ was at this stage. It just does not seem he has develoved at all. Still VERY, VERY raw after 2 plus years in the program. He has the ability and size but...
Love Readers attitude and potential. He WILL be a very good player for us.
Our lack of an actual scorer also hurts us, but we can be so good defensively it will mask that. WC is a defender and opportunistic scorer, not a go to guy, same as kareem, and even selvig(upon his return) has always been a better facilitator than a scorer, though i have very high hopes for him and feel he understands what he needs to be for this team.
While i like our players individually, im not sure about the make-up of this team. But will support to the end.
GO GRIZ!!!
