He asked me what team I played for. When I said EWU, he said "Oh they have the red turf, right?" Then he asked if I was on the team that won the Chipper. He asked who we were playing, I told him the university of montana. He said he wasn't familiar and asked if they were any good.
I've had many conversations very similar to this.
You are trying way too hard here my man.
You have every right to puff your chest about the Eastern program. They have superior athletes and coaches right now. They have dominated the Griz recently, and supplanted them as THE team in the BSC. You have the best QB and WR in the country in my opinion, and I think you’ll make a run at the NC this year. Candidly, I don’t expect the game this weekend to be that close.
That said, this story is complete BS. To think Eastern is anywhere near UM in terms of national recognition is horseshit, and you know it. Even the most rabid, Griz hating troll would not agree with this.
Go ahead and boast about what EWU is on the field. You don’t need to make shit like this up to prove your point.
What is funny is I have had the same exact experience. You would be surprised how many people nationwide recognize us for the red turf. I've heard both hatred and admiration for the turf, but people recognize it all the same.
I think that Griz fans just get so caught up in always being surrounded by other Griz fans in Montana, that they don't realize their program doesn't really exist outside of their state. Sure, the Griz have created a better brand than most FCS programs, but in the thick of things, they aren't important.
I live in Seattle.
More people here are familiar with the GRIZ than with ewoo. All they "know" about ewoo is that "the Huskies played a DII team this year".
But you are correct that there's a great deal of hatred for that field.
