I've lived in Washington since I was 10 years old. And none of these "All of Washington makes fun of EWU" rumors are true. All of Washington State supports EWU and thinks that Cheney is a nice little town.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but Montana's run of constantly winning year after year helped to bring the fans. If EWU's program can do that, they will see their fan base grow. Sure, a lot of them will be new band-wagoners, but that's what will happen for any program that has continued success. They won't come close to having as big of a base as Montana, but they'll continue to sell out the red field and maybe eventually get that expansion going. And a lot of their success has to do with Montana setting the bar. We'll be setting the bar that much higher in the next few years when we get the new facilities built. :thumb:

Without a doubt ewu football has a chance to be a great thing and have long success, however let's not kid ourselves with how behind they are. We would be pushing them to leave the sky if they were bad. As for Cheney I guess we will agree to disagree. This was true 10 years ago, but as of late, most of this doesn't hold true. For as much ribbing as Griz fans give Eastern, the School has seen tremendous growth the past 5 years, the fan base, donors, attendance, academic departments, as well as many other things have grown exponentially the past few years. Football was definitely and still is the catalyst for this. As for the population, it is what it is. Spokane has a lot more jobs to offer than Missoula, so Griz grads are bound to make their way over here. Eastern was the butt of a lot of jokes in years past, but those days are behind us.

As far as schools modeling after the Griz program, I would have to say your right, who wouldn't want the success, fan base, and facilities the Griz have. Eastern and the rest of the Big Sky owe a lot to Montana for keeping the Big Sky afloat and essentially setting the bar for schools like Eastern and MSU to go after. No way the Big Sky would be where it is at today, no way we would have the ROOT Sports Contract if it wasn't for the Griz, the Griz have been and still are the driver for the Big Sky. Eastern, with its recent success has just become more of a factor and they are pushing to become even bigger year in, year out, rather than a flash in the pan. With that comes dislike from other fan bases and it also creates a lot of new fans for EWU who don't understand where the program was at 10 years ago...
