Griz v. NCU

I'm resigned to the fact that the core of this team consists of three sophomores. They're always going to be at a disadvantage going up against teams with senior leadership and experience. So if it's "wait 'til next year"--and three more years of eligibility for Beasley, Bannan and Whitney--then so...be...it. That gives us a year or two to fill out this roster with better, bigger players.

Son, I've been waiting for that a long time now.

When are you and Mouse going to start the #fireTD movement?

It’s funny how no one questions the decision to never play zone. Basically many of the issues described in this thread are at least mitigated a little bit by the zone. Yes, I know the theory that it is harder to rebound in a zone, but doesn’t that need to be weighed against players defending out of the their position and the other team basically in the double bonus with 10:00 to go in each half (somewhat sarcastically on the fouls, I think, maybe).

This team is clearly not built to play the style Travis prefers (especially without Anderson), so why force a square peg in a round hole?

To be honest, have not followed the Men's, mainly the LGriz. But I tuned into this one. Griz were largely out gunned by some awesome UNC ball play on all levels, looked like talent/athleticism as well. I saw too many Griz forced shots in the key, maybe that worked in other games? Defense on UNC, big chore. That said, there's lots of sparkle and punch in the Griz team when on, a powerful bunch!

But, Pops, so have I! I've spent way too many hours on this board decrying DeCuire's inability to recruit quality bigs. Our list of "misses" is extensive, and two of the best bigs during the Decuire era, Krslovic and Breunig, were Tinkle recruits.

Sad thing is, both my teams, the Griz and the Warriors, are suffering the same fate right now, a desperate need for rim protection and paint scoring. The Warriors didn't go for a big at the trade deadline, which makes me think they are happy with the progress being made by James Wiseman, who should be coming back maybe next week, along with Draymond Green.

But our Griz? None on the horizon that I can see. For now, I would agree with those here who are pushing for more playing time for Kyle Owens. I've given up on Blakney.

And while everybody thinks going to the transfer portal is a slam dunk, I'm not so sure. I much prefer to build with freshmen. At the same time, it does look now like necessity is the mother of invention. I hope our staff has their eye on somebody because I don't see help on the horizon for next year.
