Another disappointing loss. Just like a girl friend many ages ago, just when you think you might score she slams the door on you. Maybe a poor metaphor for tonight’s performance but we’ve been down this path to many times. Someone please explain to me when We need to score we let them run 18 seconds off the clock before we foul?

On the bright side, Vazquez took and hit a 3 without hesitation. 1st confident 3 he's taken in 2022. Wish I was joking.
The defense is missing Mack. We're a great true big away from being at the top of the conference. Bannan, Owens and DCH are true SFs. I hope we land a xfr big that can actually stay healthy and want to be the man. Haven't had that guy since Akoh went down.
No idea what to expect from this team in BSC tournament. Nothing would surprise me. Just don't want to see UNC in the 4 5 game. Hoping for Southern Utah in that game.

NC is a terrible matchup for the Griz and it showed in some many ways last night. Montana wasn't able to put any stress on the NC defense to make them move and without Anderson NC was able to get access to the rim because no matter who replaced him (Bannan, Blakney, Owens) isn't anywhere near as a capable post and paint defender.
There just aren't enough horses in the stable and when you look at what NC has, WSU has as well as SUU and MSU have, you can see why at this point Montana is clearly a 5th place team. Montana is young by age, not necessarily by experience, but they just don't have any semblance of the length, physically or scoring depth the top four teams have.
Maybe the position is justified, considering the roster and philosophy, but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. I'll reserve observations on the roster and such until the season is over, but they are going to have to find some combination of rotation and philosophy quickly to get anything out of the conference tournament. Whether it is possible that is up for debate, I just don't know, but I do have the confidence that this team is entirely capable of beating anyone in the top 4.

From my perspective as a failed high school basketball coach, I can see where Travis's philosophical rules are and what he is attempting to maximize given the roster it has but its killing the ability of the offense to have any adaptability because of the personnel he uses. The question really is right now with out Anderson on the floor, is what is the lesser of bad options: A team that is incredibly average on defense w/out Anderson and you commit to improving it, or go the other direction and still not be able to score enough to out pace the opposition.
If Anderson returns to help out post defense then I like our chances to make a run. But if he's not able to get ready by next Wednesday, I'd think based upon the matchups the Owens-Bannan-Martin-Beasley-Whitney is better than any attempt to keep the games in the 50's with the group that we have right now. We'd defend better on the perimeter, which has been a sore spot in recent weeks, and teams wouldn't be able to ignore at least half of floor w. Owens on it versus DCH or Blakney. But again I am a failed coach so what in the hades do I actually know.
i stand by my assertion that DCH looks absolutely lost on the offensive end, and makes a number of bad fouls on the defensive end….Owens looks much more prepared and ready to assist…
Just wish someone….anyone….could explain the fall of DCH’s play. So, so strange. Could it still be aftereffects of the concussion from last year?

Simple observation, he's wearing down matching up so often in the paint against true post players. The 1st half against UNC he looked himself. Scoring outside and penetrating.AZGrizFan said:

Had it not been for the development of Bannan as more of the stretch 4 (and better one at that), I really think that would be were DCH would be right now. DCH isn't big enough to play that Hi-Lo post game as a 5 nor does he have those low post skills that allowed Pridgett to play in and around the basket without the height. I think if he did, we'd see him playing more in true tandem with Bannan.
I do that is why we see him shove out to the 3 and why Owens has played almost exclusively around the rim, when oddly enough I think Owens by skill is the inverse of DCH. DCH is a touch more athletic on the perimeter, even though his game is more suited for the 4. Owens is tall enough to handle the post, but doesn't have the quickness to play the 3 and defend on the perimeter like Travis wants.
