GRIZ/USF

Lousy call or not, Tinkle must trust his studs to play with two, even three fouls in the first half. Sat Cherry for a long time in one of the recent games...........ended up winning, but got lucky. Could have easily been down huge at the half in that one. Basketball is all about the flow and other than a couple elbow jumpers, Selvig was absolutely "out of it" for most of the second half..........because he sat and watched for nearly an hour.

Tonight's inside defense was awful. SF got layup after layup. Selvig sat most of the first half and then was the only post to get any minutes in the second half. Ward and Hutchison sat in the second half, and based on their first half performances, deservedly so. Reader was in maybe all of one minute in the second half. He seemed to get in the doghouse and that was it. Derek is not a good inside defender and did not defend well tonight. Our only real effective post play came from a wing (Art Steward.) Stockton played very well in the first half, and then returned to normal in the second half. Wood got some minutes in the first half then did nothing (again) and never played again. Weisner finally hit a three, but is not an inside player and has shown no effectiveness as a rebounder. This was a bad loss to a mediocre team. :( Right now, the Griz are only mediocre. The strength and depth of this team is it's guards and based on what happened tonight, Wayne has to be considering going to a three guard look and utilizing the quickness and athleticism the team does have.

+1 I really wanted Selvig to have a great game tonight, just to spite Dill, but he layed an egg, and played like sh!t.........He did not play like a senior. Lame. That was just a weird game all around, and Tinkle not taking a time out on our last possession left me wondering and mildly annoyed.

The season is still young. Hopefully this team finds an identity...

You got a dose of Selvig reality. Listen to me more and you won't continue to embarrass yourself trying to tell us knowledgeable fans than Selvig is multidimensional. His latest disappearing act will be played-out many more times this season.

Embarrassed? No, not even close. You take this board way too personal/serious.

The drivel this dirt merchant spews is priceless.

Another close loss and I am starting to wonder about our on-court leadership. Situations like that are when having a good leader are crucial. The coaches can only do so much, somebody on the floor needs to be able to stay calm, cool and collected and find a way to get a win. This issue might be our biggest problem. This team is very inconsistent and will just up and go flat emotionally. If that continues it might be a frustrating season. A boatload of talent is little good with no captain.

Since I did not see the game, I can't very well contribute. However, I saw enough of our returning inside players (Selvig not included, because he is nothing more than a 7' wing player) last season to know that we would not be very good this year because we have no inside game. We will get owned on the boards, be in constant foul trouble, and have trouble with penetration from opposing guards due to no intimidation factor like Qvale offered last season.

My prediction, and you can mark it down now, is that we finish third in the Big Sky behind Weber and Eastern Washington. Again, I'm not a "hater", as you allege. Just a knowledgeable BB fan who is not afraid to tell it as it is, instead of playing the good-fan mantra that most of you play.

anyone who watched Weber at St. Mary's would not make a comment like that...trust me, even after last night's sorry performance, UM looks better than Weber! HArd to believe, but true. I agree wholeheartedly but without so much venom, that Selvig is not the player so many think ans suspect he is more reputation than reality. However, he IS a huge asset by his mere presence on defense. I noticed the point guard last night and the previous game forced to swing around him, slowing them down and oftentimes into a bad pass but the UM players too slow to the ball, and leaving the lane open for layups...other than that, if Cherry and Jamar are clicking, and they will against Weber, Lillard and company might not do so well....depends upon which UM team shows up...We have a ton of talent...but hesitate to take full advantage...great freshmen and sophs...i will say, if UM could box out and Selvig not be so hesitant, they would be undefeated now...easy to fix...but changing attitudes is not....
