The biggest difference between last year and this year will be the quarterback position. That will make all the difference in the world.

DING :!: DING :!: DING :!: DING :!: DING :!: We have a winner, G&B...for knowing the reason between last seasons Griz failure and this season's sure success -----> a QB that isn't in over his head.

GRIZ will return to their normal #1 position in the BSC, and take a run at the chipper, like as usual.

Pretty much what Tripp said today.

Pretty sure both the Coaches and Media would have picked us to win the conference regardless of our schedule. We've won or shared the Big Sky title three years in a row, we have our QB coming back for his Senior season, along with many other key players, and now have a bigger and experienced O line. We'll see how good their predictions were in November!

Go easy on that O line. MSU's new offense has totally different blocking schemes than anything those kids are used to. Those first few games are going to be tough.

Could be... but I have confidence. Anyone care to place a wager on who will have the better record after the first 5 games? Posting privileges perhaps?

Biggest problem in the past beside Qb position without Johnson was the Griz inability to play to their strengths which is their massive offensive line and solid defensive line. I expect the Griz to get back to their roots this year and compete for Big Sky title. However, if they stick with spread offense offense then a top three finish isn't out of the question, but it will be much harder.

What exactly is "posting privileges"? Is it something dirty?

Thanks Hammer. I'm glad I got the pre-season BSC DEF MVP backing me up :!: :D

There are about 1000 versions of spread offenses in football. What version are you referring to? You do know Don Read ran a spread offense with Dickenson in the 90's, right?

people keep saying this, but you have to keep in mind that the defense returning 10 players isn't the same defense that returned 10 players in 2011. we were fifth in scoring defense and fourth in total defense last year, but the 2010 team was second in scoring defense and first in total defense. i'm not ready to bet the farm that the 2013 defense is going to be as good as the 2011 defense and i'm not so sure the 2013 offense is going to be as good as the 2011 offense. hopefully i'm wrong, but you can't ignore those statistics. we simply don't look like we're returning the 2011 defense. that was a special group that comes along once in a lifetime.

With JJ back, with as much depth on defense as we have, I'd expect, well, hope for, an undefeated season and a total embarrassment of the Cats Nov. 23, followed by the NC! GO GRIZ!!!

Interesting. I'll take the 2009 defense, than you very much.

A few things stand out. For all the bitching and moaning about the Big Sky and all the move-up talk, that top seven is pretty damn good. And I sincerely doubt Portland State, UC Davis and Weber State are bottom feeders in almost any other conference in the FCS right now. I agree with most of the poll, but I'm still picking Weber to finish much higher. They are my sleeper team.

Preseason polls have to be taken with a grain of salt, as nothing has been proven yet. Injuries, weather and many other variables will change the look of this poll when you look at the final Big Sky standings in November. However, as far as the coaches votes though, it always cracks me up when people are so critical of it, like Cat fans saying the Griz are too high, when I would be a million dollars coach Ash voted them high! It's just funny, it's like saying great coaches like Ash, Beau Baldwin, Mike Kramer and Tim Walsh to name a few, don't know what the hell they're talking about, when, in all honesty, as far as putting a preseason poll together, they know better than most. And the Big Sky isn't like the SEC. In our league, the head coaches actually DO submit the votes themselves. They don't have interns and SID's doing it for them.

The BSC will be a tough one this year as there are 13 teams and 5 legit contenders in MSU-EWU-CAL POLY- NAU and UM. Not to mention SAC ST could be there also. Teams improving are WSU, UND and PSU. The addition of UM QB JJ will have a HUGE impact for the Griz IF the O line can stay intact, no reason to think they can't. HE adds that X factor they missed last year along with experience and a leader of the Offense. That being said, he may be a bit rusty missing a year, but who knows? MSU has a proven QB and EWU has a scary QB in Vernon Adams who can throw and run. CAL Poly runs the triple option like Oklahoma and NAU has an NFL RB. Then you have the under performing teams in UND, SAC ST and PSU who on any given Saturday, can play any team to the end. I guess my final point in all of this post is that the Griz, with there winning tradition in the last 15 years or so in the FCS, have some serious completion just in the BSC. this is tough for me as I'm an MSU Alum, with MANY Griz family Alums living in Missoula, and a son who plays for EWU. I guess you know where me blood stands now, It's Eastern. However, I always root for Bobcats and Griz in the playoffs, lol. My personal prediction is EWU-UM-CPU-MSU. Got to go with your son. Cheers

You guys are old and delirium has set in! :ugeek:

At this point, I think everything looks about right...MSU EWU UM all are a couple of bad injuries from having a really bad year and you never know who is going to step up and be a conference beast. What I want to know is how Baumann at NAU got 8 years of eligibility. He's been ripping people up for what feels like forever.

If defense wins championships Montana will be right in the hunt. It has been talked about over and over and The Griz's front seven are very good and determined. Games are won in the trenches and the O-line is more than capable of controlling the line of scrimmage(especially if Poole returns). I believe the App State game will prove to be as an important game as any. We will show how competitive this team can be and a win catapults us into what will be a long hard season. As far as the cats are concerned they are stronger than us in only 2 positions. Safety and quarterback. I'm not saying Montana is stronger at all other positions but the cats have a few work in progress spots(defensive tackle to name one) and with Na out they will be shuffling guys around. Will we win the conference? I have no idea but I do know that with good coaching we will be right in it. As the poll sits now it seems fair enough but like the Griz Cal Poly best not be over looked. Unlike the cats The Griz will have finished a tough conference schedule heading into the Griz/cat game. So basically all a poll does is say football season is right around the corner and fans from all teams get revved up. :thumb:

Hmm. Well considering we've been co-champs three years running, I'd say we've earned the Big Sky hype? Pretty hard to be overrated when you are picked to finish first and finish tied for first...

I guess what I should have said was the Bobcats get picked high then do absolutely nothing in the playoffs.
