I also don't think this team has "that" guy.
This applied even when we had shooters. We had Manuel, Rorie, Oguine, Dorsey, Akoh, etc on the same roster and struggled to score in the BSC. It’s the system, not the players. Defensively, DeCuire couldn’t be much better except for sometimes some questionable decisions like putting Bannan on White in the final seconds. But overall, not much to complain about defensively. It’s offensively I have some issues.HelenaHandBasket said:UMFan12 said:Ok, so someone else explain the scoring lapses against BSC teams then? Maybe it’s because. Oh I don’t know. The offense doesn’t work.
Lacking perimeter shooters doesn't help.

Absolutely incorrect!
Only for games involving bsc officials because, well, #bsc.

My bad, fixed it.

This has been the Staple of Decuires program. Year and year out, we’ve got to be one of the highest fouling teams in college basketball every year. There’s no reason any team should shoot 40 free throws in a game ever! I knew after Vasquez tied the game that we were gonna lose, because the same thing happened at NAU last year and multiple other occasions. Until we start fouling less, we’re in for a long season!

This game went sideways when the officials called a 3 pt flop foul and then swallowed the whistle on an over the back by suu after FT and then didn’t swallow the whistle when 99.9% of good refs do at the end of the game that would go overtime.
40 FTs by SUU and 17 for the Griz. Unbelievable.

A lot. We had 4 guys in top 11 in the Big Sky in terms of fouls. Mack was 11th in the conference in fouls last year while only playing 12 mpg.

Great post.
Some on here go to such ridiculous lengths to defend the shitty officiating in this conference rhat they refuse to call dogshit dogshit, even after watching it with their very own eyes.

grizzlyjournal said:A lot of perceptive comments on this game, which still boil down to the Griz being a very young team that's still learning how to play together. I think the refs played like it was their first game as well![]()
Much of this game was dictated by fouls, so 9 of the 10 players who suited up played double digit minutes. Regardless of the outcome, I nonetheless think it's good for every player to get a lot of minutes in early season games. It's the best individual test to give everyone the minutes to prove their mettle. In that regard, I think this game was good for Anderson. He seemed to visibly loosen up and improve his play.
As early as it is, I think the scouting report on Montana is to prevent them from entering the ball into the low blocks (by drive or pass), and as a result, give them a cushion on the perimeter. USC certainly played that way.
I think Montana has a good offense, but no offense in today's game will be good if a defending team can "pack the paint" because they know the other team cannot shoot from the perimeter. A potent D1 team usually has a point guard who can pull up and shoot the 3 when the defense gives it to him (Ahmaad Rorie). I think the following late-action play illustrates my point (even though Vazquez made the trey and so it ended up being a great play). Observe how much space the SUU defense is allowing the point. I'm hoping that's an anomaly and that C. Parker and wing player Satterwhite can loosen up & start hitting from the perimeter like I've heard they're capable. But over two games, their combined stats are: Satterwhite 2-for-13 (0-7 on treys); Parker 4-14 (1-5). Both USC and SUU played off of Parker and Satterwhite, most likely respecting their ability to drive, but also, in effect, giving them the open trey. I'm hoping one or both can snap the shooting slump & start knocking them down... I'm pulling for them.
