Griz Soccer Coach Fired...

I understand the coaches reasoning of how he conducts himself when in Vegas, but I dont agree with it.

You show up in Vegas, representing the University of Montana, wearing our gear. You represent the school. When you're on a recruiting trip, funded by donor money, I dont think it is appropriate to be calling or "responding" to ads for companionship. And dont act like were all idiots trying to spin what these things are. Its the same shit as the cards with escort service information on them that they hand out, only difference is that its digital.

And any coach should know that in this current day and age...if you toe the line of anything remotely close to sex, unprofessional-ism, sexual assault, or anything that can look bad in the eyes of women....YOU WILL BE GONE!!!!

Its not rocket science.

Missoulian not about to let this go...and maybe rightly so...in their latest they claim a dozen players approached admin with concerns...not just a couple as reported earlier in this thread.

http://missoulian.com/opinion/editorial/uncovering-truth-at-um/article_34708bdc-38f8-5e0d-b2ec-da9851cfe0f1.html

Who penned this because it sounds like there are a lot of "facts" that likely aren't"facts" at all? This is exactly what the Missoulian has been salivating in wait for.

Problem is, when a piece like this is printed, people take it for news, and that, has yet to be confirmed.

The American Press Institute says that 32% of readers and consumers of media can’t tell the difference between editorial and reporting (https://www.americanpressinstitute.org/publications/reports/survey-research/opinion-news-trust). The fact is that for many Americans, opinion based “news” is the way they get news and formulate opinion. That’s why shows with Bill O’Reilly, Bill Maher, Sean Hannity, and Chris Matthews are so dangerous. It’s opinion, but in a lot of ways and to a lot of people, indistinguishable from real news. The result is that a conservative or liberal slant is given to facts and people in turn take that slant to be fact.

Th Missoulian is simply cashing in on that phenomenon. It’s vulture-ish and makes good business sense. People buy that drivel. Pulitzer and Hurst did it and actually caused a war. Today’s media really hasn’t changed much and neither has the people consuming it.

All of this. Plus, if you are going to make those calls to escort services, at least have the common sense to use your own damn phone and not your work phone. That’s like looking at porn on your work computer...

Any updates on what's going on with this situation? Parent of an alum and it is sad to see how long it is taking to get someone hired. The team has missed an entire spring worth of soccer.

Well I know that additions and schedules are still being made. Montana has added 10 Fr and a Jr transfer from Troy this spring and our fall schedule was just recently finalized. Katie Benz is the interim coach but some articles have called her the head coach but no announcement has been made and some of the recruits have said they were disappointed but excited to see who the new coach will be. I have know idea on any spring practices or off season routines that they may usually go through but I imagine Coach Benz is doing her best to make sure everything goes as normal.

Allegedly the school has to pay the coach through his contract, which I believe ends in June. They are supposedly hiring a coach to begin in July. The assistant Katie has been doing a great job with the girls this spring. I’m sure they are looking forward to finding out who their new coach will be.

I am looking forward to finding out too! Hopefully this change will have a minimal negative impact next year. No matter how great the coach, change can be difficult. The right coach can make this transition smooth and hopefully the players can continue their march to the top of the BSC.

I believe the North Dakota coach is an assistant, not HC.

Not sure who the UC Davis assistant is that they might be looking at. They both only have a couple of years coaching experience??

The Missouri Associate Head Coach is Don Trentham who was the head coach at MSU Billings for 9 years and was the Asts. Head Coach at Colorado the year they made it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tourney.

Trentham as you said has good experience. D2 head coach 9 years - left with best record in program history. D1 assistant Wyoming, Colorado and now Mizzou as associate head coach.

Citowicki head coach at D3 for 6 years. Took a low laying program and flipped into NCAA tournament team. Also best coach in program history. DI associate head coach now. Looks like similar trend at UND - bottom of Big Sky to programs most successful season in one year.

Can't find anything on other candidate. Both of the above seem solid.

It sounds like alumni weekend was great. Nice turnout with great weather Friday and so-so Saturday. Interviews should have wrapped up by now. Looking forward to seeing how the new head coach will be!
