Not started playing the season yet but here is an example of the play selection section. This is not a video game like Madden. Its strategy based on actual stats. The football game is insanely complicated (still learning) but here is a brief explanation of what to do in this scenario.
Example is 1979-80 NBA season, Bird/Magic rookie year. My hope is to replay every season in each sport with this scenario....What if a player stayed with the same team he started with until he retired. Thus different rosters and interesting teams. (ie Babe Ruth is a Red Sox forever, Bret Farve a Falcon, Abdul-Jabar a Buck, Phil Esposito A Black Hawk)
I have 3 options...
-- Select a green button
-- Do a Custom Play Call
-- Choose an actual player to "go to"
I usually do the last one. The play is random based but you can decide.
-- Westpahl is probably not a good choice, although he is open, and rates high for "drives" & "shooting" (8/8), Cheeks plays on 9 defense and he is denying him the ball. If he already had the ball then better option because Cheeks in his position only grades a 1 for outside shooting
-- White, better choice, he is being guard by Free, who's defense is not as good, but then too he is not as open as Westpahl.
-- Maxwell, good shooter inside, (thus only rated a 7 because he can't drive as he's already inside) but Bristow has good defense and is denying him the ball.
-- Bird, just doesnt look good, not open Bryant plays good defense.
-- Cowens is best choice to "go to" here. He is posted inside, is open and his shooting of 5 is much better than Catchings inside defense of 1. Catchings has good driving defense at 9, so could stop Cowens from driving.
Of course if you choose pass, it resets your options.
There is so much to these games that you can set up, lineups, types of offense and defense, play online vs others, etc. The game screen actually shows what's below, the play by play box, a basketball court with the players positions, and numerous box scores etc.
They do have some seasons that pertain to the Grizzlies....
-- Big Sky Conference Basketball (2005-6, 2006-7, 2007-8)
-- Big Sky Football (2011)
-- FCS Football package (2012, 2013) they only include the following teams though (but basically you could set up a league with all these teams, and have them play a season)
FOR 2013
2013 FCS Top 20
Colonial Athletic Association
Missouri Valley Conference
Southern Conference
Big Sky Conference
Starting the one basketball season tomorrow. Buying the other two on Friday, plus getting last years FCS for football. Obviously for football you have a playbook, you can click on the play you want to run...and the player to run it.
