Griz Nation needs to do better, and it starts with me

Here's what I dont' understand. We had REASON to have angst last year...lots of "firsts" for this team, and none of them positive....this year we're winning, the players are (for the most part) keeping their noses clean, recruiting classes are awesome, things are looking up. It may not get fixed in one year, but things are moving in the right direction, for sure.

Tough pill for a lot of people to swallow but that's exactly it. :thumb:

Its not like UM has moved up a division and suddenly EVERY SINGLE team UM plays is a good or better than our team.

Yes this season is better than last years. But last year we actually had a losing season for the first time in what.... 20 or more years?

No need to rehash the whole thing but we know that a select few in power and a mob of others really wanted to burn down UM football in the last two years. Its done REAL damage to our team and coaching staff.

This year we are basically struggling to beat every single team in the Big Sky conference. If we have to play OT to win every game that says something. But we have gotten more Wins than Loses. So its an improvement over last year.

But at the same time why should UM fans be satisfied with this? Every single team in the Big Sky didn't suddenly get that much better we got that much worse in performance, recruiting and coaching.

I agree starting endless "I hate the coaching staff" or "So and So player sucks" threads is pointless and not helpful though. I also need to not be so negative myself.

But changes are needed on this coaching staff period. But I do support them in the fact they stuck through the Engstrom lead lynch mob of the last 2 years. But that time is over now.

Until UM moves up into a real challenge of FBS or whatever it morphs into in the next few years many Griz fans will still expect UM Football to be dominant and a leader in both the Big Sky and all of FCS. Mediocrity isn't something to strive for.

Brint,
The reality is we are one of the most spoiled fan bases in all of sports, not just college football. Winning seasons, playoff appearances, & championships set a high bar. When the team struggles, the natives will become restless.

Bingo, hit the nail right on the head with that one. Someone buy this guy a beer.

Hammer (not the actual egriz hammer) meet nail!!

I think it's extremely ignorant and quite honestly incorrect to call us the most spoiled fan base...

Honestly posts like that if feel deserve a quick warning and/or ban because the poster accomplishes nothing but purposefully trying to piss off egriz posters

I agree with your post with the exception of being critical of players. We all enjoy the griz and sports because of emotional stimulation. That includes happy moments and sadly negative moments. There cannot exist happy moments without sad ones. And I think it's unrealistic to accept the good without the bad. We all got to experience the good of great secondary players for the past years and now we have 2 of the worst safeties we've ever had and I'm sorry but it's unrealistic to ask thousands of fans to watch the self implosion and smile and say, "o well"

Same can be said for our o line.

I think though there's a line that can be crossed. So lets say a player drops a few passes. Sure the fans in the stadium will groan, the player will catch hell on the sideline, and discussions will take place about it. But then there's coming on here and ripping the kid, using a public forum be it a message board or social media to vent and tear the guy apart.

No way can anyone just ignore the frustrations, I'm not saying that, because you're right sports is a mix of good and bad.

As for the comment on the safeties. The worst we've ever had? Come on. While they're not without issues both are playing significantly better than last year. Hermey is tackling very well, Tully has improved as well and he's forcing turnovers this year too. Coach Cookus has maybe been one of the best new additions to the coaching staff as he's helped these two guys both had real rough 2012 seasons turn the corner. We come from such a high expectation of safety play in years past, at times we need to realize that not every starting safety at the UM is the next Colt Anderson or Schann Schillenger.

I had some long post written about how bad out safeties actually are but I guess to sum up my response would be name me a year where we had 2 worse starting safeties then these 2 in the last 20 years...

I don't want to derail your post as I agree but criticism of players is something they deserve if they don't live up to expectations that we as montana have. They get all the benefits of being grizzlies and with that comes living under a microscope.

I had some long draft of how big a tool Eriul is, but I want better for egriz/Griz Nation. Name me one posting egrizer worse than him in the last two months. I don't want to derail this topic, but criticism of posters is something Eriul deserves.

You can always head over to BN, establish an account and harass them at will. Get banned and come back over here to watch egriz trolls get banned. One big banned circle jerk. Then when you have been banned you can head over to Maroon Blood. Snowden should be weighing in at any moment.

Why don't you think before trashing the young men on the team? Very easy to sit on egriz and bash the boys. Tool!

I wonder how many times you will call people "tool" blatantly for no reason.

And another decent thread dies in flames...... :off:

If Brint can get the momentum going in the direction of supporting and not trashing players, I told him I would consider franchising my screen name to the supporters.

So what I'm hearing from some folks is that eGriz is like a bad marriage with amazing sex. You're miserable most of the time but because of those few moments of ecstasy you still can't walk away?

Re: Griz Nation needs to do better, and it starts with me

you are the starter? you haven't made much progress. how can anyone else get started when you are so slow off the blocks? you need to be replaced. i think greenie should start.

Of course, and it would be at no charge, because I know you would honor the name. Or maybe we should just do a combined common name that we could both post under, perhaps AG/PR. Think of all the fights that name could have with itself.
