GRIZ HC job

Jerome Souers and Andy Thompson for 2014 or just Andy Thompson....these guys know how to recruit and get the best out of their players.
Jerome has been at NAU 14 years and is still under .500 even with this year's good record. Just what we need. Thompson may be ready some day; it isn't now.

belichick was 36-44 before being hired by the pats too. some places are just easier to win at and um is one of those places. this isn't to say that souers is right for the job. just saying that you need to look at much more than wins and losses when finding a guy to coach at um.

A better example might be Don Read, 48-76 before coming to Montana. But he had the pre-Phil Knight UO experience and was a respected offensive innovator, Belichick a respected defensive innovator. Souers, not so much. Nice guy, though.

Don't you think Chuck would have a hard time recruiting outside of Montana?

He would have to assemble a staff, right? So find an assistant with strong recruiting ties to the west for your staff.

First off, I think Chuck is awesome! I met him the first year USF played in Helena, he was very cool and I could tell he loved Montana. Of course he probably didn't enjoy the game too much since his defense gave up 55 and Carroll's defense gave up 0, but who is counting. I have been lucky enough to run into him many times since that first meeting and he is always very cordial.

The reason that I asked the recruiting question is because you stated that Van Diest would have trouble recruiting outside Montana, but couldn't MVD just "assemble a staff", just like Chuck? I think it is strange that you would push an NAIA coach that hasn't done a whole bunch as a head coach, but you would disregard an NAIA Coach that has won 6 National Titles and was named NAIA Coach of the Decade! I think MVD has proven that he can recruit players that are above the NAIA and he has had great success playing against teams that are in a higher division and/or have way more talent (2010 USF team).

Since I know Van Diest will not be Coaching the mighty Griz anytime soon, I hope Chuck gets a look and the Griz would be very lucky to have him! By the way...TUCK FECH!

Is Van Diest a sure bet to be coaching at all in the near future. Didn't he almost quit right before the season started? I thought Bruce Parker had to talk him off the ledge.

At least nobody is saying "anybody could win here" or "keys to the Cadillac" or any of that crap this season.
OK, then I will say it. It is still a Cadillac. Delaney put it in reverse and backed up and put a dent in it.

I like Chucks youth and enthusiasm and nothing against MVD but he must be in his 60's by now. Chuck is mid 30's and has brought energy to a Tech program that had been missing for years. And yes I love Coach Green also but he knew it was time to call it quits and he is probably about MVD's age.

Oh Yeah i WOULD RATHER GO TO HELL THAN BE A SAINT!!!

Not really; we outscored opponents in the Read/Dennehy era with air Read. We started to develop good D in the Glenn era after Jerome was long gone to NAU.

I wish Drew Miller was ready. He will be a very good head coach someday.
He is more ready than some of the suggestions here, particularly from the NAIA lovers.

Knows the recruiting territory has coached in the FBS as well as D2 and has built up a winner. Downside is he has a black mark on his record which may not fly here. He is under consideration for the CSU job.

ya i'm not sure it would be wise for um to hire a guy who has been charged with domestic violence as well as drinking and driving...
Interesting; the black marks are from 12 and 15 years ago. Solid track record.
