Griz Fans Accept Mediocrity Now

Dill: Hey! What's all this mediocre acceptance stuff? Why are you all accepting mediocre Griz performance?

Grisly Fan: What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron? We're ALL mediocre. There's nothing to hope for anymore.

Spysk: [to DIll] Let it go. Season's over, man. RP dropped the big one.

Dill: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the NDSU won the NC? Hell no!

Everett: [to CDA] NDSU?

CDAGRIZ: He actually means UNDSU but forget it, he's rolling.

Dill: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...

[waits for anyone, ANYONE to chime in but...crickets]

Dill: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

[Dill leaves forum, alone; then returns (as usual)]

Dill: What the f*** happened to the GrizI used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest season of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Stevie, we might not be mediocre." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this.

CV Griz Fan: Stevie's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional formations, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

CDAGRIZ: We're just the guys to do it.

Everett: [chimes in] Yeah, I agree. Let's go get 'em.

Spysk: Let's do it.

Dill: [shouting] "Let's do it"!

Dill again runs away alone from the keyboard.

eGriz: [collectively] Ha, sucker...

I believe the crux of the problem goes beyond even RE and to Missoula and the State of Montana as a whole. There are many people that would like to see the program go away or at the very least shrink, and some of them have public positions.

Well, since you asked, in the last four years, tailgating primarily, because witnessing how the program has slipped during the past four years, and being around since Don Read and others had built a dynasty, it has been sad to watch.

As far as the University of Montana, since the inception of Royce Engstom, which I feel and could be wrong, he is the main issue of the the decline of the football program.

Other than, being a far left bastion of liberalism, and indoctrinating in lieu of educating, meaning critical thinking is not the agenda, ideology, liberal agenda are what is most important.

Other than that, the University of Montana is there and toloarable, I didn't go to school there, other than auditing some classes, and neither did my children, or family members, so that leaves my alligence to athletics only.

I was a contributor to the "Excellence Fund" for many years, although withdrew after the RE handling of RP and Jim O'Day

Hope that answers your questions, and hope it does not disqualify me as a fan of Grizzly Athletics in your mind, if so, tough shit, try to get over it.
It doesn't disqualify you from anything, but it does make you sound like a pompous ass who doesn't really know the definition of dynasty.

Give him a break....Dill just got out of EGriz Jail and after such a long time without knowing how the outside works stumbled onto such disdain remarks about mediocrity etc.

After posting such weird remarks and being found out about, he quickly talked with his re-hab counsler to determine if he violated his probation. Sad. But I see some improvement. Not one poster was called out for a knife fight. Not a soul was threatend in a serious way.

Some, hoping Steve would get rid of Royce, are waiting. The silence is more than I can bare.

Griz fans -- or at least those of reasonable intelligence -- understand that no team can stay at the very top forever, and that even in UM's "down" years, 95% of teams would kill to be where we are. UM's 3 decades of success are nearly unmatched at any level.

It's been a ridiculous run of success. We already have the best facilities at the FCS level, and the University continues to invest large sums of money into upgrading them.

FWIW, that doesn't sound like acceptance of mediocrity to me. Quit bitchin' and enjoy the ride.

That is all true. Surely I would love to win the SKY every year and advance to the Chipper every year. But our down years are most program's best years. I don't think many Griz fans are "accepting" mediocrity as much as they are "tolerating" it as simple statistics demand that nothing lasts forever...except the fact that being a GRIZ fan is WAY better than being a kitty fan. GO GRIZ!

Some people forget that the Griz won more football games than any other Division I team in the 2000's irrespective of sub-classification. Yes that was 5 years ago but it set the expectations bar very high. We live with somewhat of a hangover from it. The Griz made something really, really hard look rather easy. The side effect is a significant amount of unwarranted frustration. It's like watching Jason Day win the PGA Championship and then being pissed off that I can't play better.

Spysk didn't come across as a pompous ass, but you did, Htown. And Spysk is correct to naming Engstrom as the largest factor.

So by this theory, NDSU should be headed to mediocrity soon.....

It would be interesting to see what Atlanta would have to say if the Griz went 2-1 (or better) through the first 3 games. I'm guessing he would say nothing. I like him as a poster, stirs the pot...points out some white elephants, but we are still 0-0, with a new offensive staff that just MIGHT be something special, let's see where it goes before we "prepare for disappointment".

I believe that Griz football has been mediocre for the last 5-6 seasons and will be, at a minimum, for 2-3 more years.

I will never understand posts like this or some of the stuff that Atlanta was going on about? Five or six seasons back from 2014 is 2009 when we lost the Chipper by 2 points after going in undefeated. Mediocre?

2011 we came within a missed FG on the road of going to the National Championship Game. Mediocre

From 2012-2014 our results have been mediocre. And I am not sugar coating that but the reality is we lost a lot of close games that maybe we would have won in the past. No excuses though. Look back through the GRIZ's amazing run from say 1993-2009 and you will notice that we won our fair share of close ones even at WGS. Atlanta makes it sound like we were so dominant at home that most teams didn't even bother to come out after halftime, not the case.

And this on-going bitch fest about how lousy the Big Sky Conference is, is so far from reality it is laughable. The MVC is the power conference of FCS right now, like the SEC for the big kids. We are number two or maybe three if you really like that eastern conference that has New Hampshire and some of those teams. Just because another conference is strong doesn't make ours garbage. The SEC being a power doesn't make the PAC 12 or Big 10 (or whatever the hell those conferences are called, I don't follow FBS very closely), shit.

I am glad that so many boosters and fans are not down on the program like some of the Egrizzers. We are getting millions for academics and locker rooms and improvements. The people working to see those improvements are the ones who certainly don't accept mediocrity, and they do a hell of a lot more than bitch about it.

Great post...the perpetual pessimists of egriz are not very representative of the fans and people close to the program I know in the actual world, and certainly I'm seeing a ton of excitement and optimism about the future, even (gulp) this season. I'm just not sensing the doom and gloom save for a few caricatures on egriz, but my feeling is that that is just who they are, and it really has nothing to do with the Griz.

You calling someone out for being pompus. That HAS to be an attempt at humor. Well done, PR. Well done. Didn't think you had it in you.

And I'm going to say the largest factor in the decline was that we had players who couldn't keep their asses off the police blotter.

Everett, let's hear your explanation of how players on the police blotter contributed to the decline. Can't wait to see your explanation and to see how you show cause and effect.
