Griz Fans Accept Mediocrity Now

Please tell me why you think the defense is overrated. I am interested in your detailed answer beyond just a quick disagreement.
Possibly he remembers last year's CPSLO game, which many have chosen to forget or dismiss.

Cal Poly wasn't easy for many teams to stop last year. They AVERAGED 351 ypg on the ground for the season. In 8 conference games, Montana gave up 1,126 yards, a 3.7 ypc average that was second only to UND. 421 of those yards came in ONE game. I refuse to judge an entire defense/season on the inability of a team to stop the triple-option offense that it sees once a year.

This. And like Gottaluv said, losing KVA was huge, although Ty admittedly did a poor job of adjusting to it.

Sask, I guess you did not read through the thread since I posted this additional post:

I believe that Griz football has been mediocre for the last 5-6 seasons and will be, at a minimum, for 2-3 more years.

I agree with you for the most part, but did you really see the 2009 and 2011 squads as "mediocre"?

Looking back, it seems to me the slide started in 2010. I am not sure the 2011 team was as good as the record, but I would say they were definitely not mediocre. But since 2012, nothing but a whole lot of mediocrity.
So I stand corrected...

Yeah, I didn't see that one before I posted. Sorry, it's a solid correction.

News Flash For Sask!! Griz football will be mediocre as long as we are members of Mr. Bobcat's Big Sky Conference and FCS football.

I do not accept this mediocrity, and I demand that it be fixed.

[Waits five minutes.]

Nope, still mediocre. So I take it the rest of you accept this mediocrity? Bastards!

An elite defense doesn't get a pass because the opposing team doesn't play the offense they are comfortable with. Maybe a "overrated" one does.... CPSLO probably thinks the Montana defense is closer to "overrated" than to elite, since they ran up way over their BSC average against us. And the rest of the BSC is not exactly elite in the defense department.

I like our defense and am counting on it to get us through the tough first four games while the offense matures. I just refuse to accept mediocrity against CPSLO (or Wofford) just because their offense is smarter than our defense.

That was a very frustrating performance last year. Really after KVA went out, we decided to not make any changes and just watch CPSLO just run over us. I am confident that Gregorack has thought alot about that game last year and what he would do differently.
I will be extremely dissapointed if we don't have a better defensive plan for them this year.
Offensively, we will move the ball against them better this year and keep the D a bit more fresh also.
Go Griz!

Kem, that is one great example of a bad defensive game. As mentioned above, the game totally changed when Van Ackeren had to leave the field. The defense was very solid for the remainder of the year and I'm not sure they should be judged by one bad game.

Kem, I have a feeling Stitt feels the same way and won't settle for it either on offense of defense.

Just let him be a wet blanket. That's clearly what makes him, and many others here, happy.

Given that the fans don't call the plays, they don't recruit the players, they don't coach, they don't even hire the coaches (etc., etc.) then what does it matter what they are willing to accept? You kind of get what you get while trying to make the best of it. OTOH, Griz fans continue to what they actually can do which is buy tickets to the games and purchase Griz apparel. And they seem to be doing a fine job so kwitcherbitchen.

Exactly. How is it that "fans" are accepting or not accepting mediocrity? What specifically is Atlanta suggesting fans do to stop this clearly unaccetable acceptance of mediocrity. Protest? Maybe a march or a sit in? Should we take up arms? Tell me man! How can we stop it??!!

You know what, I'm on board. As of right now I no longer accept mediocrity. Done. Who's with me?

I'm not a grammarian but I think a number of you are misinterpreting AtlGriz's post. Look at the title; I think he's demanding that we actually accept mediocrity and now!. The only thing missing is an exclamation point. I know he wrote some words (blah, blah, blah) after the title of his post but I don't usually read those and I didn't make an exception today. No thanks AtlGriz!

spsyk, what do you like about Griz football? Heck, what do you like about the University of Montana?

Well, since you asked, in the last four years, tailgating primarily, because witnessing how the program has slipped during the past four years, and being around since Don Read and others had built a dynasty, it has been sad to watch.

As far as the University of Montana, since the inception of Royce Engstom, which I feel and could be wrong, he is the main issue of the the decline of the football program.

Other than, being a far left bastion of liberalism, and indoctrinating in lieu of educating, meaning critical thinking is not the agenda, ideology, liberal agenda are what is most important.

Other than that, the University of Montana is there and toloarable, I didn't go to school there, other than auditing some classes, and neither did my children, or family members, so that leaves my alligence to athletics only.

I was a contributor to the "Excellence Fund" for many years, although withdrew after the RE handling of RP and Jim O'Day

Hope that answers your questions, and hope it does not disqualify me as a fan of Grizzly Athletics in your mind, if so, tough shit, try to get over it.
