Griz Fans Accept Mediocrity Now

As far Jody Sears at WSU, he was fired. He didn't willingly take a big step "down" as you insinuate PR. In fact after going 4 -19 he was fired after year 2 of his 3 year contract contract. A losing Football Proram is not really a big deal to Weber. Image is. There was no small amount of consternation about Pflus comments following his NCAA suspension and "return to Montana." No program wants a coaches name in the paper especially an assistant coach when its in a bad light or sour grapes. If Pflu had said with gritted teeth, that a fresh start is what Montana needed and he understood why his contract was not renewed. He would have been in a MUCH better position.

TNT, you don't know what you're talking about. Virtually everything you just said is wrong.

Feel free to point out any comments that Pflu made after the ncaa stuff. Feel free to point out any mistakes that you think Pflu made that lead to the ncaa sanctions. You're just making stuff up, as you frequently do.

The Weber president and AD liked Pflu. That's why they hired him.

Weber has won 4 games in the two years since Sears was there. They would have won more games had they kept him.

And what I said about Sears is "he took another job", which he did. I said nothing about how he left. I didn't say he took a lessor job, and he didn't. Sac St has been a much better team than Weber in recent years. Sac St was a step up from Weber. Here's a link to an article about how Sears left Weber: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865591380/Weber-States-Jody-Sears-relieved-of-duties-as-Wildcats-head-football-coach.html?pg=all

Isn't it a shame that every poster out there makes stuff up? That's your tired mantra about every post you don't agree with. If we could all just be so all-knowing, all-omniscient like you, we wouldn't need to discuss anything. In fact, why don't you just educate us on every thread topic from the get-go and save us all some key strokes? :stupid:

Sorry to disagree with all the Griz fans.

Within 10 years? Gee, you're some kind of prognosticator genius!
Too bad I am a little more optimistic than 90% of Griz fans.

Uh, here's a news flash for ya........... if it takes us 10 years to return to being an elite program, 90% of these fair weather fans will be long gone. I predict we will be back to our former level in 5 years, but only if we have hired the right head coach, and the book is still out on that topic.

I was starting to feel good after a long absence from football...until the past got played over and over on this post.

RE did wrong. He was way to close to radicals like Pat Williams and he fired people BEFORE he thought it out.
He needed to take action but what he did was stupid. Atlanta was right in stating the result as he put us miles behind and cost us years of XXXX. Mediocrity was caused by RE. Period. Luck on the grants was just that, right place at the right time. Washington's dislike him but gave anyway for other people and issues.

Now? I'd like to see Royce leave. I'd love to see our athletic program rise to the top. And I sure as hell want to enjoy the game next saturday!

Yup. Surprising that some of these jokers can see or admit this.

People can't admit it because it would be too simple. Pflu got the Griz to the quarter finals. RE over reacts to the rape allegations and fires him mid stream. The Griz program stumbles for a few years. Now people have to answer for the decision. It makes people feel uncomfortable because of the clear demarcation line...Nobody wants to be reminded of the outcome. People go into denial mode. Rinse and repeat....

Pflu got the team to the semis, not quarters.

Sorry. That makes the counter argument even more stupid. Firing Robin Pflugrad was a bad decision. Pure and simple. I am mot saying it was Al Davis firing Jon Gruden but it certainly was ill advised....

What he did is unforgivable. "Stumbles for a few years"? NOTHING will change as long as that c*cksucker remains.

And I'm going to say the largest factor in the decline was that we had players who couldn't keep their asses off the police blotter.

Everett, let's hear your explanation of how players on the police blotter contributed to the decline. Can't wait to see your explanation and to see how you show cause and effect.

Some Griz fans are tired of your constant spinning of the MANY non-football problems that Hauck's recruits caused. We don't need to regurgitate them one-by-one only to have you try to present "facts" which negate them spending time in jail and embarrassing our football program nationally. We got sick of being a regular on ESPN reporting the latest criminal act.

FIFY
Atlanta, I am a Griz Fan and as such you have represented my position in your post. In the future please do not think or post that you are in a position to represent all Griz Fans. You do not have my permission to represent me.

Show of hands: how many people think that, at this moment in time (or in the future), Engstrom could possibly be fired for firing Pflugrad?

I beleive we are on our way back. I see a good team coming out on the 29th. Perhaps we lose. But...

I stand on the side that states we are back. We may not win every game this season. But we have super excitement and a new very smart coach. When some of you dolts meet him you will be impressed.

EGriz is all talk and guess work. OK with me. On w/da Griz!

I have written letters to the Board asking them how many more years of declining enrollment will they tolerate before replacing this idiot.

Were they sternly worded letters?

Well, Htowngriz ,it is apparent that you were educated, using your words " second rate state sponsored socialist indoctrination camp" glad to see that my contributions to the Excellent Fund paid off, you see grasshopper that is exactly the respond to discourse from a liberal without input to the discourse that is relevant.

They taught you well, grasshopper, it appears the only critical thinking you may use is to take your penis out of your pants before you urinate.

You wasted your parents money going to a fine institution like the University of Montana, you should have consider,ABC TRUCK DRIVING ACADEMY.

Hey, thanks! That means a lot coming from someone whose idea of critical thinking and high level discourse is parroting Fox News garbage about how the mean ol' libwals are turning our colleges into Trotzky factories.[/quote

There you go again, nothing to add to the conversation, so the typical response from the uninformed liberal is to attack Fox News, incidentally the #1 news source.

Although you wouldn't know that, getting your information from the Comedy Channel.

Now, I suppose you want to label Jon Stewart a wacko conservative.

Griz fans -- or at least those of reasonable intelligence -- understand that no team can stay at the very top forever, and that even in UM's "down" years, 95% of teams would kill to be where we are. UM's 3 decades of success are nearly unmatched at any level.

It's been a ridiculous run of success. We already have the best facilities at the FCS level, and the University continues to invest large sums of money into upgrading them.

FWIW, that doesn't sound like acceptance of mediocrity to me. Quit bitchin' and enjoy the ride.
Great post, I couldn't agree more.
You guys that think you can just demand your way to success are living in a dream world. College football is a dynamic game and things can change drastically in the course of one year. We still have the most passionate and demanding fan bases in the country but fans don't make a great team. Great teams are made by smart, hard working coaches pounding the pavement for recruits that fit their system, having credibility to sell a system to players, players buying into a selfless system, players putting their jock on and working their asses off every day and a little good fortune when it comes to injury. Of course support helps with recruiting and building and maintaining facilities but support comes from winning not the other way around. I am an old griz fan and I can remember when very few people in Missoula let alone the state could give two shits about griz football.

Good point, this conversation was becoming tedious, with no social redeeming value, and nothing pertaining to the topic of the thread.

it just seemed that way - Griz record at the "New" Dornblazer was 46-38-1. The problem was they didn't play enough home games (25 in the first 7 years) until after the work study scandal and the resulting 4th de-emphasis on athletics which also turned the Missoulian and student body against the football program).
