GRIZ/EWU semi final game thread

Wow, I was just looking at EWU's roster, Johnson, Griffin, Ederaine, and Colimon are all gone after this year. That's a good chunk of your scoring tonight. At least you have Chiverton back and hopefully healthy.

EWU is better with him on the bench most games. He has a lot to learn about team play, but at times can dominate the scoreboard.

Honestly, this is the Griz team I never thought I'd see. I went to school here from fall of '05 through spring of '09 and was as passionate about Griz basketball as anyone could've been. I just moved back, caught the MSU, Weber and EWU games—completely astounded.

Yep! Not sure what thread it was, but I remember when you gave up on the Griz! Good to see you back.

I like our chances to pull this out, but the defense and Selvig's offense needs to improve for that to happen.

ya. him making half of his shots and leading you in assists is just killing you. not wards 1-5. or kareems 0-6. or your 11% shooting from three.

i can't believe how often I agree with you....it's sickening. Selvig had an OK game tonight...Ward continues to miss lay-ups, and Jamar continues to dribble off of his feet. Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers....can't have em tomorrow night. Even Cherry had an off night on the offensive end.

All that matters is that they put it together at the end....Selvig had a couple big steals, a great block, Cherry had an outstanding block and a bevy of steals. Jamar, Ward, and Cherry, despite struggling horribly on the offensive end all game, made em when it counted.

No missed bunnies tomorrow and no turnovers....

I drove to Tennessee in a camper with three guys to see Montana fall short—in effort and on the scoreboard—to Richmond. In the spring, after begging fellow students to turn out, I watched from courtside as the hoops team lost at *home* in the opening round of the BSC tourney to the Cats. Nooooot a fun year.

it is so odd that while your TEAM played pretty poorly for about 38 minutes....people fixate on what selvig does and doesn't do. i'd never say that he's a top player in this league. and he obviously had a very difficult task tonight. but people don't even attempt to try and be objective about this kid. he played every bit as good as any other griz on the floor. and ewu was very smart putting their athletic bigs around the perimeter opening up the lane.
Being out of state, I'm not privy to the Montana HS take on Selvig ... but this board does seem to spend a lot of time on what he does, or does not, do. (And I've added some to that, but more in puzzlement -- seeking information -- than any hatin' on the young man.)

Comes with the territory, I think, when you're SEVEN FEET and have a "name" (in the region, anyway). My take is: He's a roll player, with some flashes of excellence, but more often simply a team contributor. I get the feeling (but that's all it is) that he's not generally a take-charge personality and would be uncomfortable trying to be a demonstrative leader.

People need to get over our expectations of what the young man could (we think) or should be, and accept what he is: A key component (trust the coaches on it) of a pretty damn good team.

Just got back from the game. Wow. What an intense game. The Griz really struggled for the most part, but found a way to win. And congrats to the Eagles for playing a great game tonight!

I was disappointed with the people who were sitting courtside... what will it take to get you people to stand up and make some noise?! Most of the noise during the game came from the student section, which was great! Several of us students waved our arms up in the air to get people to stand up, but they sat with arms crossed much of the game...

Bring your A-Game tomorrow night Griz Nation!! Griz vs Wildcats Round 3 coming up! Go Griz!!

If all the old dudes die off tonight....that may happen. On the plus side, I didn't get told to sit down tonight!

I will say this....the last two minutes of the game were pretty electric, crowd wise. Once Ward dunked it, the crowd stood the whole time. Baby steps.....

As someone who pushed and begged for *years* for a more electric environment in Dahlberg—and even saw the Lady Griz get much better crowd involvement (not that there's anything wrong with that)—I'm pretty impressed with what I've seen the last few games. It's one things for the students to get going, which they mostly did (only the first 1 or 2 rows are allowed to jump around?), but it's another for the whole crowd to get on their feet on D, prod the offense in crucial moments and generally be completely in tune with the atmosphere and narrative of the game—which they were tonight.

EWU absolutely destroyed the Griz zone tonight slashing into the paint. We were much better when we played man-to-man...not sure what that means for tomorrow night...just an observation.

Wasn't it when we went man-to-man in the first half that we got down by 9 and going back to 2-3 zone got us back into it?

Officiating has been bad on both sides, and not the reason for either team winning, or losing. See UNC games last year.

Still whining about the refs, huh? Jeeez. Give it a rest already!

Whining is saying the refs caused a team the game. I just said they were bad on both sides!! Our officials suck most every year, compared to other conferences. If they would learn to swallow the whistle some, maybe the officiating in the NCAA tournament would not take Big Sky teams by surprise. If think these guys are good referees, fine, you are entitled to your opinion, just as everyone is. I just do not agree with you.

Good job GRIZ, and nice game EWU!!! You need more than 31 second half points to win most games.

Eric Curry has refereed more NCAA tourney games than the rest of the Big Sky refs combined. Look it up. I have. Curry does Big 10 and Big 12 and few Big Sky games anymore. He is very well respected and better than any ref willing to come ref our Conference tourney during this very busy week for refs.

With the increased media, there are ,literally, 12 courtside seats besides the student section, so i don't know how you can blame 12 lame people for affecting the overall ambiance.
