GRIZ/EWU championship game thread

Pretty tough to swallow as the Griz got complacent and let it slip away. However, the more ball that this team can play under TD the better they will be next year. Let's pull a Weber and get a few wins in the NIT.

Perhaps the Griz did let up a bit, although they still played pretty hard. Still, on the season numbers, EWU was simply a better team. They finally figured out what the Griz were doing, stepped it up a notch (or two), and did what better teams do -- found a way to win. A 4-point loss to a better team is nothing to moan about.

As suggested in another thread, EWU should escape the #16 seed curse. Not saying they won't end up in a play-in game, but they should have a 12-15 seed. With the right matchup, they have the talent to win a game (or two). Hell, maybe they could be this year's "Cinderella."

As I understand it, the NIT site selection gives the higher seeded team the first option. I don't imagine the Griz will be a high seed ... but we can dream.

it was not a coaching decision to get passive, Gregory didn't force things...its called great def and having very talented shooters..they scored 7 points in like 15 seconds..Harvey is just a super player and he took over--great players do that. Griz had 3 tos in the last 2 minutes- If anything it was the start that cost the team. Great , super, way over expectations season ..congrats to coaches and players. DAMN ..let's grab one in NIT

The only thing worse than the last 5 minutes of that game was setting off the confetti bomb to celebrate ewu winning another championship. Wtf?

Agee totally! You and I should find out who pulled the trigger on that one, GBeer. If you watched close, most of the ewu players and fans ducked when they heard it....figures.

Actually it is a conference tournament. It should go off for the winner. We brag about being the class of the conference, lets act like it. I am glad we did set it off. Stay classy griz fans. It is who we are.

??? Should we cheer equally for both teams as well? It isn't supposed to be a neutral site. Maybe you can hold the ladder for them when they cut down our nets.

Hyperbole much? No one is suggesting that. It is a conference tournament held in Missoula on national television. What would you like our school to be thought about nationally. A great team in a great sports town that acts with class win or lose, or perhaps like NAU with their coaches tantrum last night, or Bozeman where they damaged a NDSU tailgate a few years back, or Cheney where they harassed Sam Houston Players? I would rather be the former.

How does eastern have NO FOULS OVER 10 MINS.??? talk about getting calls. I think Montana needs to deploy the shoot and flail that EWU did 10 times. That way of you miss you can kick and scream til you get a foul call. Aka Harvey and Jois. Jois traveled all night and didn't get called. Harvey pushed off all night on his fade aways. Let's be honest nobody can say Montana got the calls tonight because we didn't EWU did. That being said EWU won that game with full court pressure. That's the only reason. 4 t.o with a 9 or lead. Bradshaw was a liability big time tonight. Next year he prob won't see the floor as much with the talent we have on the bench and coming in. Man gfeller had a terrible tournament. Next year o expect martin to average 25+ and win co mvp. Then we can all watch the tournament online on a laptop as it will most likely be on espn3 in Reno. Good game EWU we outplayed you yet we gave it back like this team has done all year. Looks like bigsky will have another poor showing in the dance.

but it was a coaching decision to milk the clock starting around the 5 minute mark, which pretty much took Montana out of any rhythm that had on offense. Once again a team deciding not to keep taking it at them...

Was watching too many games to see that. Not surprised, since I had figured there were at least five or six weaker (RPI, SOS) teams than the Griz (posted on another thread).

I didn't agree with many of the calls down the stretch, but there's no way we can blame the officials for this one. Eastern Washington just played an amazing last few minutes and took over the game.

Think you might be confused about what being a good loser is. Being a good loser is the team and coaches shaking hands wishing them luck, fans cheering the losing home team as they walk off the court. Setting off fireworks and confetti to celebrate losing on your home court us just dumb - it would be like firing off the cannon to celebrate the other team scoring a winning touchdown in the playoffs.

What game were you watching? Gregory did that alot this year. Dribble amongst the bigs with no answer. His out of control play at times was probably his only weakness

except that it was not necessary tonight. Yes, his reckless forcing of the ball did cost the game. It is a team sport, but it should not have happened more than once.

That 5 second call is what got EWU on a roll along with the full court pressure they put on us. There was a lot of standing around..

They were up 11 and EWU had 8 team fouls...Montana took the air out of the ball and you see what happened...EWU wins by 4 and still only has 8 team fouls...that is the final 6 minutes...even with the 5 second call and full court pressure, you would think an aggressive team might get to the foul line a couple times. And a lot of standing around pretty much proves they quit being aggressive.
