Griz/cat Week

Watched the women for the first time this year. Not a fan of Holsinger's offense. No off ball movement, no off ball or on ball screens. They like to shoot 3's but can't set up good looks because of this. A lot of low percentage shots or just flat out shot clock violations. Not impressed with what they are doing. That was really, really hard to watch.

It's amazing they average so many points.
I'm impressed with the personnel though.
They need to add some versatility to the offense.

Bingo. That's why I was saying the game must have passed me by. Why would you eat up 20 seconds of the clock dribbling at the top of the three points line, only to try and pass it to another player who hadn't been moving to get open.

I'm not trying to be critical and I'm far from knowledgeable as far as X's and O's, but that just looked like a losing recipe.

Scary ending to the game. Hope KJ is okay. A kid getting rolled off on a stretcher into an ambulance sure adds perspective to the importance of wins and losses.

And Binford continues to outcoach whomever is sitting on the Griz bench.

I hate to agree but it’s a fact. They play better defense there are more aggressive and they play better offense. They move the ball. They don’t stand out there dribbling for 20 seconds trying to drive in and then get a shot blocked or turn it over. Twenty turnovers is ridiculous. Their 2 seniors and their freshmen outplayed our experienced players by a lot. To me with the talent we have and lack of execution reflects on poor coaching.

That was not the offense I've seen from the Lady Griz in any game this year. Up to this game, they have been moving the ball, and sharing the ball pretty well. Very frustrating.

Yep. And for almost 10 years now, Binford's defensive strategy has been pretty basic: a jump-trap D at the tip of the key just as Montana's point gets set to call/run the play. Today, from the second quarter on, it was even more basic, with the MSU point defender forcing Montana's point toward the sideline or center court. So... Montana backs out & re-sets the same play, which allows the Cat wing defenders to start jumping the passing lanes. Result: turnovers on cross-court passes.
Montana DID start getting the ball to Carmen and Dani at the high post midway through the fourth quarter, but by then they couldn't quite pull even.

Argh, here we go again.
Scoring drought after a solid opening 3 minutes.
A few questionable calls favoring the bad guys.

Back to better ball movement ... sure makes scoring easier.
