Griz BB on Roots TV tonight vs OSU

I have always liked Woods for his attitude and maturity. However, he has no business being in this game let alone taking a 3.

any updates you guys can keep coming is appreciated. I just went to take a leak came back and my inlaws are watching the Amazing Race...

I'm still behind but Steward's technical was a stooooopid call... he had his hands up in the air making sure not to futher initiate contact.

Agree 100 percent. Rather see Gregory or Henderson

Time to experiment with Cherry, Deshields, Jamar, Henderson, Reader line up with Weisner and Gegory rotating in, and turn up the pressure. Not for a starting lineup, but get our athletes on the court, and let them grow.

While we are at it, nothing but 3 point shooting drills.

ok. so I have overrated da Griz..makes you look forward to MT Tech next week?? Shades of good play last week vs LBeach and then two of these..NDak was clue ..conference play will be long as this team is a mess?

I wouldn't hang your head on this loss too much. OSU has a pretty talented squad this year.

Was hoping for a Big Sky upset tonight, but I'm now hoping that we can keep it respectable on the 18th when we play them.

The Griz are offensively challenged if they have to run half court offense. This team needs to pressure and get up and down the court. I saw nothing on either end that was a positive.

Tonight was a pretty humiliating performance by the Griz. Too bad too, since the announcers made some very positive pre-game comments on Montana's basketball program...we definitely didn't live up to it tonight...

How much of this ass kicking was us bending over and letting them kick it? Tinkle has to be pissed in the last few games. They are playing together as a team, and cannot throw the ball in the ocean. Hell, with our shooting, the ocean is dry.

I am serious, build inside by committing to Reader, turn up the pressure defense, and let the youth learn. Stockton has hit his ceiling, and Wood is a wreck on the court, and belongs on the bench.

Let the basketball world meet Deshields, Henderson, Gregory, and Weisner. Of the returnees, I am really disappointed in Selvig's inconsistent play. Ward, and Hutchison are not playing like they need to either. At least Art Steward is consistent.

This team has no continuity right now. Offensively, I can understand it, it happens, but defensively, and rebounding this is not the way Tinkle's teams play. Something is wrong, and it goes well beyond missing Qvale.

It has a lot to do with no Qvale. He was the only thing the Griz had to both score inside and protect the paint on the defensive end. Qvale allowed the perimeter players to play differently on both ends then they can this season. The Griz have absolutely zero in the paint on both ends right now and would be much better served to force an up and down game and rely less on set half court offense.

Humiliating to say the least. That was not representative of a Wayne Tinkle coached team. Previous threads have pretty much laid out the deserved blame. I think it's time for Tinks and staff to rethink their rotations and decide the 8 or 9 players that are going to take us into the Big Sky season. They have already burned several red shirts so it's time do some baptism by fire.
Without looking at statistics I would be willing to bet opposing teams get to the line at least 2x more than the Griz. This is unacceptable. 59 free throws at North Dakota, give me a break. You can't blame it on officiating. This team lacks an identity and it's not going to be Selvig, Will needs to make it his team. He seems to be the only one with the fire in his belly. This is a very challenging team for the coaching staff, they are not as good as they think they are, meaning the team. I still have faith in the staff.

I must be the only one that thought Wood played good tonight, especially in the first half. Rebounded and defended well, had a couple of assists and a steal or two. I think part of the inconsistency we have seen this year is because he was struggling early on.

Rebounding is difficult when your playing a zone defense, but we have to do a better job than that. We gave up way to many second chance points tonight and this year.

The officials tonight were not great but they were not horrible either. You can't blame them when every game out the other team has more foul shots than us. Eventually you have to look in the mirror.

I agree, we miss Qvale, but as I said earlier, the problems are well beyond missing him. Defensive rotations, positioning, ball movement, and looking to score are all things this team is inconsistent at. Those things go well beyond missing a player. We are missing Qvale's presence defensively, and on the boards, but the other things have nothing to do with his absence.

From what I have seen this year, I would be using our best athletes, and spreading the floor out more on offense. We have the guys capable of penetrating in Cherry, Jamar, Deshields, Henderson, and Gregory. Put the ball in their hands, and let them create, and/or draw fouls. Find some open looks for Weisner, Jamar, and Deshields in particular, or even Stockton when he is on the court. His shot is better this year. I do think we have a potentially dominating big man in Reader. The problem is we are not trying to utilize him offensively. We need to build him like we did Strait and Qvale. They were 2 very different players, but both turned out to be damn good in the paint as they got the experience, and commitment to them. Right now Reader's minutes are minimized, and there is not any commitment to building him.

If we don't try this, then we better be hoping and praying that Selvig finds his "B", or better game. Right now his game is nowhere near his potential, and talent. I don't expect him to be a banger, shotblocker, or even a 3 point marksmen. I do expect him to distribute the ball well, care of the ball, make his team mates better, contribute on the boards, consistent defense, and hit the damn open shots when they are there. He needs to stop being Magic, and more like Nowitzki.

If we are not going to utilize our bigs, or if they are going to be ineffective, time to go with our strength which is athletic wings, capable of pressuring, and trapping well. :thumb:

Wood has absolutely no outside shot and hasn't for ages. I like his attitude too but you can't afford to have a wing player who can't shoot at all, ever. :( Wood and Stockton are seniors and clearly do not provide much if anything when on the floor. I realize Stockton had a good offensive half against SF, but that is nowhere near his norm. Also, his slowness on defense and growing propensity for turning the ball over hurt the Griz. It really is time to give the young guys a shot. Perhaps then, they will have a bench that significantly contributes. The Griz team I saw tonight is lousy. We are 3-4 against D1 opponents and now regressing. It is time for TInks to do something personnel wise that has a chance of significantly changing the course of this season.
