watching this is lacerating. jamarr misses two free throws, selvig the front end of a one and one. four potential points down the drain. with other teams, you hope they might miss one. when we shoot, you pray we might make one. we've clearly upped the athletic quotient through tinks's recruiting, but we don't have a guy on this team who could reliably shoot a basketball into a dumpster from three feet.
and how much more evidence do we need that stockton is not a d-1 player at any position except quarterback or safety, while wood is the stuff of benches.
i'm baffled too my tinkle's substitution patterns. against u.s.f., their announcers were praising billy reader much of the first half. second half, he plays maybe one minute. against a super-quick oregon state team, his first guard subs are stockton and wood, not deshields or gregory. the refereeing is what you would expect of a pac12 school, and while i never imagined you could change a normal foul on replay, that was clearly an offensive foul on stockton. a frustration foul. the beavers were in his grill, and there was nothing he could do about it.
a year ago, against u.s.f., with us trailing by about eight points late, tinks went to full-court pressure. even against a super-quick athletic team like u.s.f., it worked. we pushed the game into overtime. what's the point of having athletic players--cherry, jamarr, deshields, steward, gregoy--if you don't unleash that athleticism on your opponents every now and then. maybe our defense could create some offense. our shooters surely can't.
