Well, the thread topic is about Gregorak ... at Bozeman, not the success of UM post-Gregorak.bgbigdog said:What he did or didn't do while in Missoula is immaterial to the success of UM's program since he signed on with Bozeman state. Can we be done with the Gregorak Era?
Well the big sky conference isn't a very high bar to set the standard at. I think he averaged around 3rd best defense in the conference? The only team in the big sky to have any success over the last 5 years was EWU....and until Semore got involved that never went well.PlayerRep said:brewskis said:I really agree on the last paragraph. TG will be part of the turnaround. There is alot of excitement about Choate and his coaches in Bozeman, among fans and players. Ash, while a nice guy, had cleaned up the program and taken MSU as far as he could, but he didn't have the horsepower or enough desire/drive to take them further or to sustain the rise. He was uninspirational. He didn't even know the names of many of his players, and had never had one-on-one meetings with many of them. He apparently seemed to give up during the season last year.
Also hearing very positive things about their new staff. But, from Bozeman, after the past several years of hearing all about the "changing of the guard," and "the new power," every time the sun comes up in the morning, it's also hard to tell if its real or just "post apocalyptic euphoria."
If ever a team could benefit from the addition of a highly positive motivating force, Gregorak is probably it for the 'Cats." People can criticize his strategic skills; but they always pucker up when they hear his former players talk so positively about him. You know, the ones that actually played football for the Griz.

Couldn't get the DC thing figured out? While I haven't checked, I would assume the UM defense in his several years as DC were the top defense in the conference (when the years at considered together). What is astounding is that some posters can't recognize that the UM defense was good to very good under TG, at least as judged in the conference, and improved in various facets each year. Talk about not understanding the game.

Choate has met with all players, and working on getting prompt buy-in. Choate is a very nice guy. Delaney and Dennehy is very high on him, I am told. It looks like MSU is sorely lacking in talent on both sides of the ball, so won't be able to do much this season, but who knows. Maybe they can get it together to knock off a few better teams. Be careful what you wish for.
Wait...dont tell us....you're as close to Ash and Choate as you were to Bobby, Gregorak and Delaney????? Your social prowess knows no bounds.....
Never met Ash.

"Good to very good" is barely marginally impressive when you consider that Ty had NFL-level talent at his disposal for his entire tenure. Great recruiter and motivator, average Coordinator.

Oh really. Because UM and TG had Tripp and Coyle for 2 years of the 3 years, TG had NFL level talent at his disposal.

So you checked the scoring defense stats for the Big Sky and somehow that confirms that the Big Sky is a high bar to hold defenses to? How many times has a big sky team played in the national title game or the semis in the last 5 years? And which teams have?PlayerRep said:brewskis said:Well the big sky conference isn't a very high bar to set the standard at. I think he averaged around 3rd best defense in the conference? Yes, the Big Sky is a high bar. It is one of the top several conference in FCS.
I checked the Scoring Defense stats for Big Sky teams for 2015 and 2014. Only UM and ND were in the top 7 in Scoring Defense for both years. UM was 4th and 1st, at 24.6 and 21. ND was 5th and 3d at 25.7 and 26.2. So UM was ahead of ND both years. Using this methodology, UM had the top Scoring Defense in the conference over that two-year period. In my view, Scoring Defense is a very important stat.
Where do some of you come up with your BS? And why are you so lazy that you don't even both to check before you spew totally incorrect information?
Who cares if they haven't played in the nfl? It's their performance in COLLEGE that gets them there.PlayerRep said:gotgame75 said:PlayerRep said:brewskis said:I really agree on the last paragraph. Oh BS. Don't be ridiculous. Under TG as DC, were there any other defensive players who have played a single down in the NFL regular season other than Tripp and Coyle. Sorry, but 2 NFL players or even 4 if the d-ends ever get on the field, hardly means that a defense is going to be great. It takes at least 25 other good players every season.

If Bozeman wants our hand me downs then they can have them. As far as I can see it's really no loss.

2 players who played 2 of the past 3 years does not equal TG having had NFL level talent for his defense. He had 2. Maybe 3 or 4. That prior comment was just plain dumb.
