GRAGG NEW HC in 2014

ok, bigkid....I lived thru a de-emphasis of the athletic department and don't enjoy seeing it happening again.

I understand but there is nothing we can do about it so lets try to stay positive and hopefully something good will come out of it. I really think all will turn out if we get a NCAA report that shows no big violations. That and a JJ aquittal will go a long way in correcting the downward spiral. I'm trying to find a way to stay positve and sometimes jokin around helps.............no disrespect intended.

Yeah, me too. There are only so many Don Reads out there willing (at UM's pay scale) and able to save football programs....

So much for the future of Griz football....very sad.
Like I told a friend last night, it may take 15 years to straighten out this mess, and I'm too old to have to wait that long.

Not to worry. The world will end in less than 3 weeks. That will straighten everything out.

Nope, I don't put much credence in the Mayan calendar.

I think the one coach that's out there that would come back to Montana and compliment the current state of affairs with Griz Football is Bobby Petrino. Think about it.....he's been a winner everywhere he's been.....great recruiter and motivator....and knows and adheres to Griz values and history. Yeah....he's had a little "personal" problem but it can be certainily be overlooked when you look at the big picture of Griz football in the last few years....hey most Griz fans are praying for redemption in light of the problems that have surfaced.....what better than a good coach that just wants a second chance!!!!

Petrino won't stoop to coaching lowly FCS, nor will he have to. If Mike Price can get caught bunking with a prostitute at a coaches convention and still get hired at an FBS school, Petrino should be able to, also.

My, my -- aren't you cute?

Wow what negative nancies! The Griz are going to be just fine with JJ back and RE being forced to resign. The former is reality but the latter is wishful thinking.

To suggest Petrino at UM is a joke at best, he wouldn't work for the pitiful salary he would get, his 25 year old "hire" at Arkansas was making almost as much as UM is wiling to pay a HC. Yes he is a winner but there is more to it than that--things like morals and ethics are rather important. Let's stay positive, I think things will eventually level off and we can hire a good HC who will do fine--maybe not what we are used to though. I think the Key here is to get the Main Hall mess straightened out for the good of the entire university.

But given his moral lapses and sexual proclivities, maybe other intangibles will draw him to UM and its "gang rape" culture? :D

Can someone please politely explain the major pros and cons of having an internal coach move up (down?) in this situation. What is Gragg bringing that was not available last year? Did any key see any Gragg coaching? Thanks much appreciated,

Gragg doesn't bring anything different than what delaney did. And i think that is exactly what the plan is. Gragg will bring a no nonsense discipline. wins and loses will be another story. it just seems to me that this is the new trend in griz football... discipline first, wins second(or somewhere down the list)

I think this is an excellent move. I remember people saying Larry Krystowiak was a bad hire for the basketball team.

I remember being at reporter at UM and people saying Bobby Hauck was a bad hire.

The truth is none of us know what kind of OC and possibly future head coach Scott Gragg would make.

I know he bleeds Grizzly. I know that means alot and I would think all of his personal experience can't hurt him.

I for one am looking forward to seeing what happens. Either way, we're going to be just fine.

Yeah, assuming this is indeed the plan, I'm more than willing to give him a shot.

Count me in the corner of giving SG a shot. I will support his being named head coach (if and when that day comes). Let's see - Played for the Griz and was awesome - Check. Played in the NFL - Check. Is young and can relate to recruits - Check. Is a disciplinarian - Check. Will likely want to stay for at least four to five years to build his reputation - check. I think the positives outweigh the negatives at this point. The only worry I have is his ability to make adjustments during a game. I believe he is very smart and that his degree was in math and possibly he taught math (or Trig, Calc, Algebra, etc). Math folks can often be linear thinkers. Hopefully he can overcome that trait and tap into his creative side as OC.

Young? Were recruits even born at the time he played?
:dope:

Taken in the second round of the 1995 draft by the NY Giants (okay, 18-year-old freshmen, assuming 2013 recruit, were just born), played for the 49ers in 2000-2004, and the Jets in 2005 (freshman probably a fan, might have his jersey).
