in the face of terrible line play, smithwick-hahn (sp) played with some poise, and looked at least as good as johnson. other than the ugly pick-six.

The pick-six makes it hurt to say it ... but I have to agree. Thought our O-Line had learned from the s**t game they had against NDSU, but apparently not.

if Smithwick had pump-faked on what became a pick six, he would have had a loonngg TD
Easy to say from your computer, as opposed from being the guy throwing the ball....

Lots of people making excuses how "If only we had JJ, this game wouldn't have been close".

Truth is, the offense hasn't looked that much better with JJ than it did with SSH today. :x

Whether that's a result of whatever's been causing JJ to be a shell of his normal self, or an offense-wide problem as a whole, we need to get stuff sorted out in the next two weeks.

This I agree with. The offense has looked terrible from the start of the season, no matter who was running it. That makes me pretty certain the problem is NOT with the personnel but with the coaching. This makes me sad because I believe we have the players to be really good, but we don't have the coaching to make that actually happen.

bump. because it is true.
True -- SSH did all that could have been expected of him and, when it mattered, Sullivan got the kick. And we go forward....

I concur. Give SSH some credit for putting the INT behind him and making a play.

yet they won. and i was kind of impressed with und's play. you probably shouldn't be so sad.

Well, to be fair, though, we currently are missing about 6-7 spring ball starters, including our QB, our best and 3rd best receivers, two best offensive linemen, and starting tight end.

That's ridiculous bad luck.

I thought he did a pretty good job, except for the one play. He scrambled out of trouble a few times and I don't think he got sacked as I remember. He was at least as effective as JJ today.

And today is the reason the coaches gave him more time than the other backup QBs earlier this year.

I just don't get it. How can people continue to say "it's not the personnel" when there are EIGHT starters missing? There's a REASON these guys weren't starters...they weren't ready. And they're STILL not ready....JJ could be Vernon fucking Adams and he ain't gonna perform when he's missing his #1 and #2 receivers, his #2 RB, both tackles, and his tight end. To expect any different is just ludicrous.
