Good Bad Ugly - USD

Lots to like in this game obviously, but frankly I'm shocked that anybody thought the OL looked good. To me, it seemed like Sneed and the passing game succeeded in spite of the offensive line, not because of it. The deficiencies in the run game are obvious, but on passing downs Sneed was consistently flushed out of the pocket and turned many close call sacks into positive yardage. Anything outside of a 3-step drop quick hitch route and Sneed was getting harassed. I worry that without a run game, this quick passing game is unsustainable.

My second worry is once again we see little to no 2nd half adjustments by the DC. We seem to struggle to get any pressure on the QB unless we blitz, which leaves our talented LBs out of position far too often and exposes the holes in our secondary. We're going to need to be able to dial up pressure from the edges eventually if we want to be a team than can make some noise in the playoffs.

Akem, Toure, JLM and Sulser are VERY GOOD. Sneed is VERY GOOD. The Defense may be very good.
Eastwood does not seem to be good, Knight may be good.
The O-Line has to improve pad level and explosion on contact to help the running game (and it wouldn’t hurt if we played the running back that doesn’t just stick his helmet in their back).

egriz, I am sorry for my poor grammatical use of the plural version of some of the words that were used in my earlier post. I would hope that my apology would, perhaps, help you to look beyond the grammatical errors and see the intended context of the feelings that, as a human, I possess. I do realize that, while my opinion is subjective, that my errors in grammar might make my opinions become misconstrued. But, I would pray that they might be taken in the spirit of a true University of Montana Grizzly Football fan and, as such, you would not hold it against me in the future. I have never played the game and I am misleading and wrong.

That's a good start. I'll take it to the committee for further consideration.

How about this....F U, and all of your (who the eff let this guy decide he could judge anything) committee kiss my opinion. I didn't realize that as an alum, I was not allowed to have an opinion that was not in line with whoever the eff playerrep is. If you are the grammar police of the website, I would have loved to have known that in the TOU. I didn't see that and my bad for not seeing it.

PlayerRep, thank you for making this a site that is open and welcome to all.

Are you okay, or do. you need mental health assistance?

See Kem’s post above. Same view as I had.

Solid, thanks for adding it.
Yeah, because prior to Bob Stitt we had shitty receivers...amiright?

Yeah thank God Stitt left.........and our receivers got to learn from a real coach ! .

Or at least a coach that found a way to get them the ball consistently by keeping the QB upright.

All true. But my point was as bad as people dump on Stitt, there are some damn fine receivers here now who he recruited. He neglected the Oline and other areas perhaps but he knew how to get some good receivers and return guys.

I knew exactly what you meant, obviously tying it to problems we had last year. Not a big deal and really not worth it. You could give someone 4 $5 bills and they’d bitch that you didn’t give them a 20.

Did UM have any picks in EZ last year? Can’t recall.

We didn’t miss many FG’s. 13-17 last year.

Bad: Eastwood. Just doesn’t have Divison I power. Although I DID like him running that guy over on the 2 yard line on that swing pass.

Could not agree more. Just doesn’t play like a D1 running back right now. Hoping he does better as the year goes on.

Good: Sneed. Enough said. Only a couple bad decisions all day. O-line. Pretty good pass protection with just a couple of breakdowns.

D-line. They just can’t generate any pressure. Period. That’s not going to serve well in a pass-happy BSC.
Ugly: The Refs. TWO passes on the same drive were obvious bounce passes. And yet they called both catches and there’s no review, no challenge? WTF?
Ugly: TWO dropped swing passes that would have extended drives, when the RB’s were wide OPEN. Can’t have that happening.

You’re ridiculous if you think Eastwood isn’t division 1 worthy. He’s a young kid, he has so much growth and development in him. I think he’s a complete stud and is going to do big things.

the "Grizfootballlover" has 2 posts, and based on the only 2 posts, me thinks they are a 'adameastwoodlover". Everyone I talked to today begs to differ about Eastwood. You can defend him all you want, but all of us saw him choke against the Cats and fumble again today. Just because Hauck recruited him to UNLV (and gives him chance after chance) doesn't mean he is a "legit D1 RB". He's not!

Eastwood is a good player. He has good power. He rarely fumbles. I fault the UM o-line and the Cat d-line for his one fumble last season. He usually has good hands, except for one today. He must be a good pass blocker, as I don't recall seeing him miss blocks.

He is definitely a D-I player, notwithstanding what some of the never-played-the-gamers are saying.

I'm glad he's Griz.

I like Knight too.

Not sure this is fair. I saw multiple breakdowns on that play that led to the fumble.

Correct. UM o-line got beat, and Cat d-line made some great plays. Those things caused the fumble more than Eastwood did.

Some good points here. In my first post I said the Oline gave Sneed “some time”. But as you say, it wasn’t “All Day”. Or even “Lots of Time”. They look better than last year, but still not run blocking too well. And Eastwood pussyfoots around and never seems to be moving very fast. I I like the D backfield. And I liked the work from
Gubner.

Lots of good in this game, definitely a quality opponent. Best for me by far was as the game went on the Griz got stronger, unlike last year where the depth showed quickly.

Definitely some things to clean up, very good play calling, I thought one of the better performances I've seen out of the Griz in quite some time.

Good post and analysis.

Ugly- the announcers pronunciation. It's one thing to get things wrong but they were coming up with new ways to miss pronounce names throughout. They said Akem name three different ways all wrong. They got Hauck the coach right then Hauck the player wrong two different ways. Sulser turned into Sesler. I was like an old man yelling at the TV by the end. There is a pronunciation guide provided with the 2deep roster, those midcon announcers need to show some professionalism and read it.

Another good: There were several true freshmen and redshirt freshmen who got some good playing time today. I remember seeing Mamula, Roberts and Walker, and there are probably others I missed. The future looks bright.

Agreed. Bobby was definitely playing Into the depth chart on defense yesterday.

Not according to played the game playerrep, who has it on good authority from his myriad inside sources that Eastwood is by any measure a very fast runner with impeccable ball security and great blocking skills

The good - passing game and receivers

The bad - Eastwood’s fumble and recovery. What’s with him and ball security at crucial points in the game?!

The ugly - talking about the kitties in the game thread.....you know who you are

Honorable mention good - knight looks like the real deal

Honorable mention bad - running game...needs improvement

Honorable mention ugly - playerrep

It was so bad it was funny. It was kind of a guessing game to figure out who they were actually talking about. They got Akem wrong two different ways also.

agree. I think Eastwood is a good player and I’m glad he’s a Griz. As a freshman he averaged 4.1 ypc behind a patched O Line. He also has good hands out of backfield. Funny how so many now think he has a fumbling problem. I think his only fumble all of last year was the one against cats.
