This is not only allowed but encouraged by Coach Hauck. He could care less. Openly talks about how the most penalized teams are typically the best teams, and he is right. Go ahead and look it up. Nick Saban’s Alabama teams are top 10 most penalized every year.
Not this year. Alabama is middle of the pack, with about six per game. Michigan ranks first in the fewest, but who cares about them because they're irrelevant. So you're telling me if McD had gotten a second Unsportsmanlike penalty and gotten himself launched, Hauck would have been fine with that? How about one of the corners?
Penalties are ever-present. In the new era of the running clock and fewer plays and possessions, shooting yourself in the foot purposely seems rather stupid. Hauck has said repeatedly that they live with penalties related to the actual football game, holding, PI, offsides, illegal motion, and the like. "Administrative" stuff, the unnecessary, still gets him roiled. Saturday, it appeared that the refs had some kind of heightened awareness of what was poop talk and what was over the line. Not adapting to what the refs are calling, just like not adapting to what you're seeing from the other team, adds to the possibility that you lose the game.
