Good Bad Ugly - Central Wash

Good: The play calling was much better than last year.
Good: The in-helmet communication. I swear in the past Griz offensive signs were being stolen at times where there were multiple plays in a row where the perfect defense was called. Saw none of that against CWU.
Good: Kicks were strong, both for kickoffs and extra points.
Bad: Music between plays ran too close to the start of the play.
Ugly: The banter of the lady who sat behind me. Really embarrassing.

I agree. Especially on music being played too long.

Good:
  • Running back depth and athleticism. Wow.
  • 7 of 12 on 3rd downs.
  • 8 different players with a reception.
  • Michael Wortham. What a versatile dude.
  • Ty Morrison, the do-it-all kicker/punter. 6/6 on XPs, 3 touchbacks on kickoffs, and 51 yard punt.
Bad:
  • 8 penalties for 85 yards, 3 of which gave CWU a 1st down and 1 that erased a TD
  • Red zone interception - major momentum killer
  • No clear leader on the defensive side of the ball
I agree, except no comment on your last point.

Bad: Too many receivers dropped passes. Got to toughen up there!
Bad: Ah Yat picks. Penalties and turnovers need some attention.
Bad: Defense missing tackle, tackling too high on those balanced runners.
Good: Eli Gillman! Rocker, Wortham
I'd add Good: OL for opening up holes for the RB's.

I think the slow start had to do with the fact that CW already had a solid game under their belts and this was the first game for the Griz. The second half was a completely different game.
I'd love to agree with you, but Hauck teams are well known for being slow starters, painfully slow starters.

This is my unofficial, armchair QB, I have zero clue what I am talking about opinion of Saturday's game.

Good: The OLine | Eli Gillman | Stevie Rocker | Wortham | Deck | Bohanon | Kyon Loud | Wing | Tuliaupupu

Bad: KAY and his passing mechanics were Sam Vidlak 2.0.

Ugly: Once again, the defense didn't just suck stopping the run, they "hauk tuahed" for CWU. I get understand the defensive scheme, and it's exciting to watch, when it works. It didn't work the first half of last week and will not work this week. UND is on a whole different level than CWU. Whomever is teaching that stupid "bump" tackling needs to be fired. Wrap up!

I'd add Good: OL for opening up holes for the RB's.

I was preoccupied during the actual game so had to watch it on "On Demand" later Saturday night...I muttered to myself at one point "hell, even I could run through THOSE holes..." it was a pleasant surprise to see the size of some of the holes those fellas had. On Eli's big TD run he wasn't even TOUCHED.

So are you saying BH doesn't think our defensive line will have a significant test this week?
I didn't say BH said anything about the DL play this coming week, or the game this week. I was clearly talking about last week, and disputing what you said. I said nothing about "dominating" last week or this week in DL play. Maybe you will be right, but, at this point, both BH, the D players I know, and I don't agree with you.

Why can't people like you stick to the discussion at hand? Why do you have to keep trying to discuss something else that no one was saying? I assume you keep moving because you know you can't support your view.

This is sort of your posting:

AGF: The Griz DL is weak and sucks.

Hoops: No, the DL and D did fairly well in the 2d half. See the stats for 2d half.

AGF: Are you saying, Hoops, that the DL will dominate this week against ND and win the national championship?

Just to be clear. I said exactly what I said, in writing. Read it again if you are confused.

I was completely out of line to suggest we could have been more dominant up front on defense and that this week we will be tested by a North Dakota offensive line that should be a step up in competition. Complete lack of football knowledge.

This is what you said: "We should have dominated up front on defense vs. that level of talent."

[You didn't say we "could" have been more dominant. I'm not sure how we could have been more dominant as the game went on.]

This is what I said: "104 yards and no points in 2d half is pretty good."

[This was my source from an article and what I included]

“In the September 2025 game against Central Washington, Montana's defense gave up 104 total yards of offense in the second half
.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of Central Washington's performance in the second half of the 42-17 loss:
  • The Wildcats were shut out, unable to score any points in the third or fourth quarters.
  • While Central Washington did have a few drives, including one set up by an interception, they were ultimately stalled by the Grizzlies' defense, which forced a turnover in the end zone and other key stops.“
You don't think no points and 104 yards given up in the second half is not dominant? CW had 62 yards in the 2d half until about 3 minutes to go, when all of the Griz subs were in. That was 2.4 yards per play. CW got 58 on that drive. 5 punts by CW and an interception. How could the Griz D dominated more in the 2d half?

Yes, UM lost the edge a few times in the first half. It was a good scheme by CW in the first half, and mistakes on the outside. Don't recall CW running up the middle at all. For the game, CW had 9 completions and 2 interceptions.

CW averaged 5.1 per play for the game. That's very little. The good running qb was 11-69, with 31 coming on 1 play. He apparently led the nation in average per carry last season. He didn't hurt us.

Do you really think that giving up 62 yards in a half until 3 min. to go when all the 2/3 teamers are in, is not dominating?

Spin it any way you want. I was speaking specifically about the physicality of our defensive line and how the price of poker is likely to jump significantly this week. I watched the game closely and I stand by what I said.

Our D was physical, and fast, but made some mistakes. What were you watching? You change your tune in every post. You don't know what you are talking about; that is clear.

You were wrong to imply that our D wasn't dominant in the second half. If you want to discuss the first half, go for it. Tell us what went wrong. Would love to see your explanation. The D was dominant in the 2d half.

Our D-line needs to take a major step forward this week.
Maybe, but the DL took that step in 2d half last week. You should watch the CW 2d half and look at the stats. You obviously missed the 2d half. The DL and backers in two-deep gave up almost no yards in 2d half, let alone yards on ground.

In 2d half CW was 15-38 rushing with a 12 yard sack. Excluding the drive in last minutes against the bench. 2.5 carry. That’s dominant.

This will be a much bigger test on Saturday.

Some Griz “fans” need to take major steps forward
