Good Bad and Ugly

Didn't Capser miss 2 PATs? I know one was called a "block" but according to what I heard, he pretty much kicked it into the line. The last one he made barely made it over the crossbar. I know he can kick. I'll chalk it up to first game jitters.

I thought it was just one missed PAT. Could be wrong.

Oh ya, I was wrong. My bad.

Out of all all rushing yards how much did Lucas get ? big chunk of it.

You got to love the way Ostomo runs the ball, maybe 1 degree off of north- south..

I'll try adding a few, yet to be mentioned.

1. The triple back formation. With the running ability of Johnson and Britt, the versatility and skill of our backs, the GRIZ can add a lot of wrinkles to the offense.

Bonus: Looks like the Men's Basketball recruit and family had a terrific time. We were behind him and his family at the bookstore. I didn't ask his name. However, the family went nuts, purchasing a good amount of items and gear.
That's a terrific sign, with a recruit.

I had mentioned in an earlier thread that with all our our RBs back, I was hoping to see some multiple back formations with misdirection, and I was not disappointed! As long as Rosey mixes it up and doesn't get too predictable this should continue to be productive.

I think one blocked PAT, one missed PAT and one missed from about 32 yrds.
First game Jitters

we had one missed PAT on the weird shift (this is not conducive to a young kickers rhythm!) and two missed FGs one at 36 and one at 32. That’s abysmal even for high school. I know the starter was out. Plus the missed 2-point conversion. On the whole that was the only bad on the day, aside from a couple silly penalties.

Bad: NWSU. They are a dirty, cheap shot team. And they got dirtier the further behind they got. Talked smack all day while getting their asses handed to them. Hope it was a miserable fucking plane ride back with lots of delays.

Haha I kind of like a fiery AZGrizFan! They were cheap shotting and getting chippy and talking a lot of smack for being down 47-0.

They talked the talk, but couldn’t walk the walk. Pretty fucking mouthy for having ZERO ability to back it up. And it never really stopped, even when the game was a blowout. Getting in guys faces, etc, etc.

You want to see something REALLY funny? Go back to the clip of Knight scoring his TD and watch what our guy blocking their guy does to him.

Typical Southland conference team...

Nobodies mentioned this yet.

Good: the officiating. The refs on Saturday were way better then anything we had all of last season. You could’ve swore after last season that holding wasn’t a penalty anymore, but they did call it, as did they call all the cheap stuff as they should. At the same time, they didn’t take over the game, and for the most part they were all good calls. The only questionable call IMO was Fords PI, I thought that was an ok play.

Sounds like the same can’t be said for the cat game though!

That 1st block in the back call against us was a bad call. But overall, I'd have to agree the officiating was a non factor, therefore pretty good.

I thought the punter Rohrbach did a pretty good job, almost 45 yard avg on punts, long of 55 on his first then the others were short pin punts. And he did great on kickoffs, in side the 5. Then a kickoff return touch down saving tackle, awesome for a kid that this time last year was in high school.

Good point. The Griz shouldn't have had complaints. I wonder if NWS felt the same way.

I wondered about the PI call on Ford too. I thought it was good in real time. Who saw the replay on tv?

What was the block in back play you refer to?

Definitely first game jitters for the kicker Capser. After the first PAT was blocked I'm afraid 'it was in his head', hence the missed field goals down the road. Though keep in mind it was the kids' first college game. Because of Covid and such probably his first game in three, or four, years?

I suggest give the guy a break. Distance was not the issue. We know he can kick extremely well. Let's see if he can shake it off mentally. Next time up that will determine what kind of career he might have.

Yep, every position can have an up day or down day, and like you said this was the kids first live game in like three years and just a bit more environment than the typical HS game.

I watched the game on Sunday. The officials actually got most every call right. At worse, I could see and understand why they made each call. Replay definitely showed Ford make mild contact slightly early. If it weren't called, it would've been difficult to honestly disagree.

The block in the back calls were all dependent upon referee angles. Again, had any 1 or any combination of the calls, not been called, it would've been difficult to question.

In a nutshell, officiating was great. I'm sure, that crew got high grades from each coach.
