Good Bad and Ugly

Nobodies mentioned this yet.

Good: the officiating. The refs on Saturday were way better then anything we had all of last season. You could’ve swore after last season that holding wasn’t a penalty anymore, but they did call it, as did they call all the cheap stuff as they should. At the same time, they didn’t take over the game, and for the most part they were all good calls. The only questionable call IMO was Fords PI, I thought that was an ok play.

Sounds like the same can’t be said for the cat game though!

That 1st block in the back call against us was a bad call. But overall, I'd have to agree the officiating was a non factor, therefore pretty good.

If you’re talking about the block in the back that negated the big punt return then I agree, if you’re talking about a different block in the back call, I’d like to add the block in the back that negated the big punt return to the list of shitty calls (as short as that list may be).

I had a great view of the punt return block, and saw the replay on the screen. I could see why the ref called it. It was a mistake by the blocker. He didn't need to make a block then, and shouldn't have made any contact. He tried to pull off the block at the last second, but there was some contact. The contact was on the side and the tackler was turning. At least, that's my recollection. Don't make a questionable block on a return, because that is exactly where refs are looking and what they are looking for.

Agreed on a not very smart play by the player, but there was literally just the slightest of contact as he tried desperately to avoid it  , especially when he realized it wasn’t gonna be necessary. But the refs did a great job Saturday with the exception of that play and just a couple others, IMHO. Should have swallowed his whistle.

What was the block in back play you refer to?

I think it was early on a Bergen punt return.

Yep, that's the one.

There were 2 screen passes - the one to Knight had issues, but the very first TD to Mitch Roberts was a WR screen with a similar concept to the screen attempt to Knight.

At least they looked like similar concepts. A hard to tell from where I was sitting.

The one (screen pass) to Knight was a bit behind him. He did well to catch the ball, and at least get a yard to save the down. The defense was all over that one, as well. Overall, Knight looked really good. I saw him make a couple amazing blocks, and the entire defense keyed on him on one of his first plays that allowed Johnson to get a really nice run down the sideline almost untouched. The few carries he did get were very productive and he ran hard. I think the rust and any hesitation that could certainly be expected got shaken off in this game. I believe he looks ready to roll.

Maybe this falls under UNAPPRECIATED.

The movie commercial that played on ESPN+ every break. Forgot the name of the movie but it was about the two guys looking for love.
