Pray Mick does the right thing and respectfully resigns so we can get a coach. I'm not a huge fan of his game management, but I will give him one thing - he has some class when he speaks with the media and his attitude demonstrates he understands there is more to athletics than the contest itself. I wish him well and appreciate the work he did this year. We just need a HC that is energetic and creative. Time to move on for the best interest of the program.

Personally I would not want him to leave but resume his duties coaching the backs.

I would not be opposed to that except for one thing. I believe he is ready to retire and I am just not sure his heart would be completely in it. He has worked for an awfully long time and he was ready to retire before the shiiiiiiizzzlllee storm blew in this year. He obviously is a good assistant, just not a great HC.

The first person that comes to mind is the resident troll in the assless chaps. You would think that anyone with more than 15,000 posts would hit on a meaningful comment at least once. I feel that the problems with the program this year primarily involved bad coaching. We were unable to put together successful game plans and were inept at adjusting to other teams. If you think you know more about football than I do then make a meaningful comment, instead of your usual antics of degrading every poster. I usually ignore your comments and put you in the same category as 2506 as to having nothing useful to say. In your plethora of comments you have yet to prove me wrong. Climb back in your hole.

As pointed out before the season started, there was a reason that he received a 2 year contract and it was not because UM asked for it, it is because he asked for it. He knew the season COULD likey turn out the way it did and he wanted the security of not getting thrown under the bus (like many Griz fans are already doing). THIS IS A GUESS, UM also understood there was a chance of some type of sanctions being handed down after the season that would affect its ability to recruit a new head coach. They wanted to make sure they had a HC in place and did not want Mick to just retire after the season if UM was facing some type of sanctions. This gives them another year of continuity to have a HC in place and then can start recruiting next year hoping that any NCAA issue is a one year deal or UM will at least be one year closer to having whatever it is over.

As for Mick, many posters are this board are forgetting that the Griz DC and OC left before the Sh*t storm. Plu hired the replacements. Coordinators are a huge part of a teams suceess. I think too much blame is being put on Mick. It is easy to say this is the same team Plu would have had except JJ, but that is not true. All the outside distractions take a toll. Had Plu stayed on that would have been one less distraction than what Mick dealt with. If JJ was still on the team that is two less distraction (and the main ones) that Mick would not have to deal with (of course he wouldn't be the HC, but you get the point). Finally, Mick didn't go out and buy drugs with 3 weeks left in the season. Another distraction that was not of his making.

Is he a great HC, I don't think so. You don't coach in the College ranks for 40 years and only make HC once unless it is clear you are better suited to be a position coach or Coordinator. But he stepped up when UM needed him, kept a team with many off-field distractions and on-field issues in a position to win all of its games. He deserves credit for that.

No credit deserved. His demand for a second season will set this program back for several years. Anyone who does not think that recruiting will be negatively effected this season and next season is not dealing in reality.

I don't know that he demanded anything, but there was a pretty darn strong movement on eGriz to give him an extended contract. As with most "movements" I've seen on eGriz, Bowel movement may be more appropriate (incuding the doomsdayers)

So UM should follow the popular opinion on egriz when it comes to athletics? Just like when they hired Don Holst because hundreds of clueless basketball fans held up little cards in the stands demanding that he be named the new head coach. How did that one work out for us? :?
