Give It Up for McKinney

Siht... I missed the game! I had a tall blue-eyed brunette wrapped around me in Medora for the weekend. From what I'm reading, Delaney and Rosey pulled the old "bubblehead screen" offense out of the bag again and rolled up some impressive stats for the new kid. But nothing downfield against a team that is projected to win ONE game this year... maybe? Here we go again. Christ all mighty.

 yep. You are going to hate this offense again.

Given how badly our backup QB looked, let's hope for no injuries for Trent this season.

The backup didn't look bad. After a 15 yard penalty (not on the qb), he handed off to a rb, ran for 3 yards, and was subject to a bad call by the refs when he threw a forward pass and the refs called it a lateral.

If you go look at the yard markers on the re-play,
you find that our second best Qb is so far, incapable of any type of down field forward pass

So in one play you think hes a mirror image of our starter?

Your good................

I think Hardy should be our starting QB. He has a QB rating of 757 right now.

My take:

#1. McKinney had a great 1st game and showed some very exciting potential.

#2. I'm gonna trust in coach Delaney, coach Rosenbach and Johny Fkin' Montana!

#3. Go beat App.

-A win here will not only shut every hater the f**k up but will also let the nation know just how deadly a wounded Grizzly bear is.

All of you McKinney lovers better watch what you write, or you may have to eat those words. This is ONE GAME! He was not the player running through the South Dakota line. let;s give a few games against better competition before you anoint him as a savior.

I don't think anybody is annoiting him the savior at this point, I just think he did a fantastic job in his first collegiate start. Keep in mind he is a redshirt freshman. He is at least due a congrats on a "steady" first start, don't ya think??

Simple, and accurate. Thank you, Hammer. :thumb:

You guys do realize his longest pass completion was 7 yards..............right? :?

I saw a girl at Reds with an arm amputated at the elbow that could pull off a 7 yard completion.

rumor has it she thinks your dick might have been amputated too! :thumb:

Yep, here we go again. You are trying too hard, again.

You will never be Alpha.

Try another angle.

Since when is 18 yards a 7 yard completion? And Saylor's throw was solid. Rosenbach game-planned very well. To break in a new quarterback stretch the defense horizontally with quick outs so they stay on their toes when you pound it at them with Peter and Dan. I get that you just throw out nonsense to get a reply, but I thought I'd stand up when you're spewing made up facts.

Actually his longest completion was 15 yards, the connection to Sam Gratton where Trent was temporarily knocked out of the game on a hard hit. He threw a pass to Sam who caught it and was tackled right away. Brzczeck came in after that and took the team backwards.

Um 2-9 at Sd22 Trent McKinney pass complete to Sam Gratton for 15 yards to the SD7, 1ST DOWN UM (Swift,Aaron;Taverna,Devin).

I love the running stats... but can't we do ANYTHING more than 5 yards downfield that isn't a trick play with the passing game? Is Hardy now our designated "bomber" at the QB position?? Shiny Bobble appeared to be accurate on all his 20 yard throws to the flat (as is my Grandmother)... I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Gusendheit throw, though I see he's now the backup ahead of Hyphenated. And Viagra is being redshirted, huh? So, as last year... we'll go with a "three-yards-and-out" jumpball passing game, and hope for the 70-yard big plays out of our running game. Sigh*** Gawd Dang good thing we opened with a crap game with South Dakota, huh? We might be on the wrong end of an ass-stomping this weekend if this is our M.O. again this season.

Two things:

1. We did have a few deep attempts, two were over thrown but the third was on point and dropped by Saylor. Yes it's not a lot of deep attempts, but there were a few there.

2. The Griz did not have a single 3 and out against USD. I'm sure this week against App we'll see some as we're facing a much better defense - but its worth pointing that out considering that I recall many of Hauck's first games against D-2 teams having a few 3 and outs...

The SD secondary was playing soft, and inviting short passes. The offense is designed to get the ball out quickly to guys who can run. I saw the receivers making a number of nice blocks, and didn't notice many situations where it looked like receivers had completely missed blocks.

McKinney is first in the nation in passing percentage, over 80%. That's an awesome start. What new college or UM qb ever came out of his first game with 80% completed and first in the nation? If he keeps his completion percentage over 80%, I think he'll be a good qb for the Griz.

Obviously, a great first game. He has improved greatly from the spring, and appears to have excellent potential.

He's apparently been showing leadership already. He must have nice confidence in his abilities. He's got the speed and ability to break some long runs.

I assume there will be some bumps in the road, but he's off to a terrific start. I liked seeing that he read only JJ's text to him before the game.

I bet we'll see bad/worse performances out of Trent, this start exceeded my expectations but last year we saw some bad games from JJ as well, thinking of Sac St and didn't he have a rough go of it at ISU and NAU as well?

I don't think Trent is the savior of the program just yet but it's hard to argue with a pretty solid start. Hopefully he keeps getting better and when he does have a game where he plays flat/poorly that he can bounce back in the following week.

You are being way too kind.

Anybody who complains about McKinney's first game (other than South Dakota fans) is a complete moron. His passing percentage was flat-out amazing, and his team just set a school record for first downs. What the hell's not to like?

He took what SD's defense gave him, which is the quarterback's job in a spread option attack. Does that mean he'll use the same approach against App State or Liberty? Of course not. It all depends on what kinds of looks their defenses give him.
