I may be wrong on this but I thought I had read somewhere that GK had already graduated and was coming back because he still had eligibility left. If that is true does the 9-credit rule still apply? If so, what purpose does that serve?

Rules are rules. It doesn't matter that he only need 8 to graduate, he needed 9 to play.

He walked but had a few more classes to complete, which he's doing this semester.

It's a bummer, but you're right... GK & the staff should have been aware of this as soon as the rule was changed.

Brand new spring rule. Per my understanding no notification came from the compliance dept until the NCAA noticed him that he's suspended. Didn't even know it was in place.

That doesn't seem fair... but then again we are talking about the almighty NCAA who will give SMU the death penalty, but give Penitentiary State a conceivably lighter punishment.

Most would tell you the sanctions against PSU are much greater than anything SMU received. Plus dont forget, the NCAA is supposed to enforce only competitive balance issues. They exceeded their authority in regard to PSU....but PSU agreed. In effect Penn State will be a FCS school for the next 4 years playing in the Big Ten.

True. It will be interesting to see what happens to PSU over the next 4 years.

I guess the NCAA thinks student athletes should actually be students too.... I suppose they had to have some definition of how many credits it took.

FWIW, I have Gerald in an online class. I wouldn't have mentioned it, but in the introductions he was proud to announce that he is a member of the Griz football team.

:)

It must be somebody's job to understand the new rule, the NCAA must announce it some way. Who's job might this be?

I think if the NCAA really gave a crap about players being students they would punish schools for basketball players going one and done. Kemp has enough credits to graduate and he gets hit with this crap but Duke and Kansas roll through 5 freshmen everyyear to the next level and it's no big deal.

But NOT a finalist

Correct. I think she was also the one who announced that Kemp was booted from the team.

I don't want to start another conspiracy theory, but one has to wonder if she doesn't have a case of the red ass for him and WHY

Oh, I see....a player (and the team) is being punished because of an error by an administrator. Maybe they should have suspended her for four games.
