Game thread vs NAU 1/27/18

The final bucket did count, and it made the final 82-64. I haven't looked at an official board, but ESPN had the GRIZ -18, so it shouldn't have mattered. But if a book somewhere had it 18.5 or 19....

The line did appear to be 18; the over under was 144, which the final basket achieved the over.

From Kyle Sample tonight in Missoula:
Oguine reaches milestone, Griz reach Big Sky midpoint undefeated
https://skylinesportsmt.com/griz-crush-nau-reach-big-sky-midpoint-undefeated/

FUN GAME TONIGHT! The offense was clicking. The attendance of 5100, is getting up to what it should be for a game. The defense played well.

On Thursday night, the announcer for the kitties said that NAU was THE team to beat in the big sky.
Just because the kitties couldn’t beat them, NAU is real good. I guess they had to have some excuse for the loss.
GO GRIZ!

Oh one other note, and it is NOT one you'll see me make often, but credit where it is finally and thankfully due:

The best bsc officiated game I've seen in years. Even though the GRIZ shot considerably fewer foul shots at home, the game was officiated consistently.

Actually, the game of the year in the BSC might be UM at Idaho. IU did a 40+turnaround on North Dakota.
Montana is not going to have the luxury of a poor first half balanced by a supercharged second against Idaho or North Colorado. Things are going to get very interesting after next week in the league.

This is an exceptional coverage story, noting the key episodes of the action while highlighting the game's true catalyst –- Michael Oguine -- and all he's contributed to the Montana Grizzlies. It also importantly credits the vision of the coach that got Mike and his Montana team/program where they are midway through 2017-18. Thanks for the great read, Kyle.

Here's another way of looking at this team.

Assume these starters: Akoh, Krslovic, Nicholas, Falls, Pridgett. Size and experience up front in Akoh and Krslovic. An SEC-type talent in Nicholas. And in Pridgett and Falls, two players who in high school were first-team all Bay Area--not a bad credential for an area that has produced so many NBA stars. This is a team I think would be very competitive in the Big Sky, and maybe even capable of winning a championship, depending on the development of Falls and Nicholas.

Oh, wait...toss in two PAC12 guards, and another player the Washington head coach identified as a PAC12 talent, Bobby Moorehead.

Wow.

And let's not forget. As good as this team is, you could make the case the Big Sky dodged a bullet, because this team could have included Alphonso Anderson and Donaven Dorsey, two major high school stars in the state of Washington. Or even another talented youngster, Kelby Kramer, whom we chose to redshirt.

With only one senior on the team, and Kramer and Mac Anderson in the wings, things are sky-high for this program right now.

Well it was AT 144 prior to the bucket, so I’d have lost either way..

I would challenge anyone to find a year where the GRIZ had more returning talent than they'll have next year. They will be overwhelming preseason favorites, and could very well be a top 5-7 mid major.

From Sample's article: "With Montana president Seth Bodnar sitting courtside"

But what about Bobby Hauck? He was also sitting courtside. My wife, who was sitting right behind him, said there was a parade of people visiting him. Like a receiving line. For a celebrity. She called Bobby "Mr. Missoula".

Bodnar and Hauck are bringing a lot of excitement to Missoula and Griz Nation.

And the team marches on.

Join the party? Actually, I am glad that you and some the others you listed have joined that the party that I joined long ago. Have any of you attended in person all of men's and women's ncaa games in the last 15 years? Have any of you attended all of every single Big Sky tournament games in Missoula in recent history, including every single one of the games held the last 2 times the men and women hosted the tourney in Missoula?

Okay, let's hear from all of you that have attended all of those ncaa games in person and all to those Big Sy games in Missoula. Jeez, you and most of the people you mention don't even have season tickets or attend games.

Even tho I became a Griz fan later in life, I became a strong and supportive fan long ago.

I see that jealousy and insecurity abounds.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to attend a griz basketball game in a few years. In that regard, I do envy you PR.
