Game Day Suggestions

Finally getting a chance to visit Wa-Griz and Missoula after a 30 year absence for the E. Washington game in October. Looking for some friendly suggestions on some places to eat and things to do for the weekend. I'm traveling with my 25 year old son who has never been to Missoula... suggestions welcome. Thanks!

I tend to go back to the same places I went 30 years ago. Lots of what you left is still there. I hope that helps!

Double Front chicken if you like fried chicken. Al's and Vic's is conveniently located right across the street from the Double Front for after dinner libations. No need to go anywhere else.

Polson has a decent BBQ place on the east shore of Flathead, there's both the Sitting Duck and the Raven in Woods Bay and of course the Flathead Lake Brewery is a good place. Also, Columbia Falls has reconfigured their town and the Night Owl-Back Room is a pretty good place to stop if you decide to take your son over Going to the Sun in Glacier. West of Kalispell has a few nice spots to include the Lodge on McGregor Lake.

I take my guests on the Highway 2 to Bull Lake cutoff and back through Thompson Falls to Paradise and the St. Regis cuttoff and try to go up to the Jack on Graves Creek, then if it's not too late, go to Lolo Hot Springs and then back to Missoula via Highway 12. It can get to be a long one day drive for some people but you can always make it a two day sightseeing trip...lots of options in and around Missoula.

The PressBox (across the foot bridge from campus) is a decent place for a pre-game cocktail and food, although it will be incredibly crowded on Griz gameday.

If you're into beer, I suggest visiting one of the many local breweries in town. They all provide slightly different atmosphere, and focus on differing beers, so no two are exactly alike.

I thought Double Front Chick Closed? Is it the same location it was 30 years ago?

It's still open! Same great food too. A great place to go after a game for a beer and food.
