So you saw Jake playing in high school?

I haven't seen either play live in high school. That statement is based off of watching the kid's tape and from what I heard from people who follow and coach football around Boise. There are a lot of fans of the kid who think BSU should have recruited him and he gets comparisons to some of the other very good QBs that have came out of Boise recently such as Tanner Mangum (BYU) and Taylor Kelly (ASU). Jake Plummer in terms of talent is on a different level. Simis had a very good senior year, but comparing him to a guy who is considered indisputably as the best QB to ever come out of Idaho, was Pac10 player of the year, and went on to a 10 year career with a Pro Bowl appearance is not a logical comparison.

Sounds like you're speaking in hindsight. Fact is before Plummer suited up for college ball, he was not Pac10 player of year, was not in the NFL, and had never played in a Pro Bowl. And at the time he did come out of high school, not everyone would agree he was the best to do so. Comment is better made 4 years from now. Plummer developed because of good coaches, a good system, and most of all an opportunity. To make those bold statements in hindsight is also not logical.

Would you have compared DD coming out of high school to Wild Bill Kelly? or maybe a more modern Marty Mornhinweg?

Not disagreeing with your logic, but if you talk to people who have been involved in Boise football going back to Plummer's days, Plummer was considered a phenom coming out of HS and the best QB that Boise has produced. I'm not trying to put a ceiling on Simis. Who knows what kind of career he'll have here. I don't like comparisons of any High School player to any All Timer. That was what was done earlier and that's what I had issue with. Too often on this site do fans designate recruits as the 2nd coming when they haven't proved anything at this level yet. The difference from HS to College ball is huge and I don't think many fans appreciate that.

Anyways, very happy we landed Simis. Always good to land a recruit that many consider an FBS level talent.

So, you live in Idaho, and that makes you an expert on Idaho high school QBs? No body in this thread has claimed that Simis is better, or as good as Plummer. I said that a long time Boise high school coach told me that we got a steal in signing Simis, and that he thought Simis was the best HIGH SCHOOL QB to come out of Boise since Jake. That is his opinion, which I value much more than some message board maven. Looks like YOU are the one trying to make a big deal over nothing. This kid has never taken a college snap yet, and we all understand that. Double up on the Paxil and chill.

Never said I was an expert Growler. There have been a lot of good QBs come out of Boise. If your friend made that statement, that is very high praise. I haven't heard similar comparisons from anybody I've talked too. I'm not making a big deal about it, just don't care for premature comparisons. The kid is a talent and I'm glad we signed him... and I have much more credibility than you pretend to have...

Am I the only one that isn't overly impressed by Simis' tape?
While I am excited about him coming, and obviously people are saying very good things, his tape didn't "WOW" me the way Tre Favors or Ryan McKinley's tapes did.

Now those are two players I can't goddamn wait to see on the field.

Edit: And Conor Strahm. Those three are definitely our three best gets from this class.

Simis may prove he's all-world eventually, but I didn't really see it from his tape. Time will tell, though.

Chris Parker out of Sioux Falls, SD, Marquin Russell out of Lakewood, Wash and TE Mike Ralston from Eugene, Oregon didn't look too bad, either.

Tanner Mangum is the best QB to come out of Boise since Plummer.. I'm a big fan of Simis though(the father), he's sent a number of players Boise St's way.

I watched a ton of high school football in Idaho over the past seven years. I have seen Simis-Capital(Montana), Broadhead-Minico (Carroll), Mangum-Eagle (BYU) and Hill-Highland (BYU) all play. Of all the quarterbacks, I believe to this day that Simis is the most prepared to play college football. That doesn't mean he is the most talented, but he exhibits decision making skills that will allow him to succeed at the college level.

I believe what a few coaches have told me about Simis, which is that he will succeed at the college level because he has an incredible feel for the position. Sort of in the way that a top flight pitcher has a 'feel' for his curve that makes him an elite player, or how someone has 'feel' around the green. Hill and Mangum are/were guys that can do some incredible things and look the part of the quarterback. As I said earlier in this thread (I think), one of Simis' few knocks is that if you put him up against the best two QB's in the past five or so years, he doesn't look the part. He's a bit undersized, he doesn't have the arm that Mangum had nor the athletic ability that Hill had. As I was told, the biggest reason that schools shied away from is that they weren't awed by any one physical skill and the fact they believe that his Capital roster his JR year was loaded and made him look good. That changed his senior year, when he rose to be the best in the valley as a QB, despite limitations with the cast around him.

Fairly sure there were few football players in the valley this year as a senior that was as good as Simis was. Maybe only Fruitlands Martarano (going to BSU as an LB) might have been better. Yes there was some hyperbole in there, but I'll take a few 5A coaches and a few 4A coaches word for it.

There is a tremendous amount of football tradition at Capital much like Montana's Capital. Expectation to win. They know how to win. I'll take that any time in a quarterback who learns from programs like that.

Mayor...I'll discuss anything with you....after you get back to neutral. :( :egriz:

Catmayor is too in love with his "I'm more objective than anyone else" persona to ever come back to neutral. Plus he's got all the evidence he needs, on vhs tape, that he's right and you're wrong. Good luck rimrock!

How about Gunnar Amos, how do he and Makena stack up? It sounds like Montana has an eye on him, looks to be pretty mobile:
