Football players don't quit, and the fans shouldn't either

No. Fu**k this sh*t. I'm done with slamming Griz fans. Numerous posts here on egriz claim that we have given up or that we shouldnt give or that we should just be better fans .....

I shit maroon and piss silver and say ftc when I brush my teeth every morning.

Stop telling me that I have to be in my seat at the exact moment of the second half kick off. Stop telling me to buy granite griz wear? wtf is that? stop telling me how to behave. I need beer to whet my whistle to get those false starts, so shut the fu*k up. My griz fan creds are not open for debate. The U of M is my alma mater, both of my degrees, your pie hole needs adjustment, so just stop. I didnt quit when during the Donovan days, the Read days, and now during the Stitt era. I'm going to be in the NEZ with 25,000 of my best friends on opening day when I should be out trying to get Ms. Elk into my freezer, so shut the f*ck up.
rant over.
This was beautiful...

Guys, and gals, I absolutely have no problem with being called out for what I write in opinion columns. That's why they're called columns. Trust me, I can handle it. To clarify a couple things, which I almost never do, I never referenced Egriz as the sole reason why I wrote what I wrote. The idea came to me actually while covering the Lights' game when a text came to me from someone at the Weber game who said "I'm never renewing my season tickets again." And he is actually not an Egriz poster. Of course I used blogs, and internet sentiments for my basis of the tone of Griz Nation following Saturday's game, but what's kind of funny about the responses I'm getting to my column now is, people who are mad at what I wrote, are some of the same people who are posting warnings, things like "I wonder how many recruits we'll lose," "we're going to be playing to a half-stadium in a couple more years", "the students have already shown they have written this season and this team off." Wouldn't those be considered negative tones of Griz Nation?

In any event, It's ok if people are mad at me for calling out the fan base. Maybe I shouldn't have generalized the entire fan base, sure, but according to many, the fan base is in fact already turning on Stitt and this season so, it is what it is. Again, that's why it's an opinion piece, and for me personally, I don't write them hoping for people to agree or disagree with me. I do wonder though, If I had or do write a column on Stitt's coaching decisions, I bet I would be getting applauded right now versus being ripped. So, what's good for the goose isn't necesscarily good for the gander I guess.

Yep, the whole column was just a guess. A single text message, blogs, and the internet..."don't be like Griz Nation."

People will still show up for a Griz game...as we all know from the empty stands after halftime...attendance is not even really about football, it is about being seen at the game...being social.... :thumb:

I liked the article and agree with it. Some Griz fans are giving up on the season, team, and coaches. Not most, perhaps not even many, but some. It was a horrible loss and a horrible time and place for it, and some of us think it was avoidable, but so what. Things happen. Time to stand up, get back on the horse, and keep moving ahead.

What I don't get is how many people didn't see this coming. Why get so worked up over this loss when you know it was going to happen. Maybe people put too much stock into the team after they beat NDSU but you had to know there was going be tons of highs and lows for this team. I'm hoping for a 7-4 season but I wouldn't be susrprised if we ended up 6-5. It is what it is...

The remaining schedule: ND, @ PSU, @ISU, EWU, @cats. Which are wins? Griz score much less than 30 pts per game, after week 1. What makes you think they can win 3-4 of these games? Did you watch the Weber game?

Which ones can't the Griz win? I think they're all winnable. Not saying they all be W's, but don't see any we can't win. We'd need to Simis to come along fast. I think he'll improve quite fast, due to drinking from a fire house. Great opportunity for him.

This Griz could just as easily lose all of these games as they could win them, not unlike the first six games we played. If history is an indicator, we will finish either 5-6 or 6-5. BTW, not giving up on the Griz, just being realistic.

Correct, I've been saying that for years!

...there is no antidote for griz...
...once griz..always griz...
...so if you can ungriz...
...you were never griz...

... 8-) ...

Realism doesn't play well on this site. The bye week provides time to heal up, getting our best on the field. Watch the NoDaks at Weber. That should shed some light on Griz chances next week.

What say you George? BW? The rest of you complaining about Griz fans? You are getting called out here and now.

Calling me out? For being frustrated the fans missed the whole 3rd quarter last week? Or are there other examples you've got? I frequently carry the banner of "don't ever give up on this team" regardless the year.

just like the UNDSU-Weber game shed some light prior to last week....

you do understand that the fan base was way way different due to the pink game. It was really noticeable leaving the stadium, lots of older slow moving fans.

BW has always supported this team.

Are you saying of the 25,000 in attendance a vast majority in attendance were there just bc it was the "pink game"? Everyone sitting around me was the usual faces I see.

So has NEZ Dan. Just because we see it different ways doesn't make one of us better or worse fans.

Did you see the crowd at the Community Hospital tent? the faces in the NEZ were noticeably different. The fan base was noticeably different headed to the gate after the game.

Ok then. So there was a group there that normally may not have attended. Certainly not the majority of fans by any means. Yet the stadium was half full for almost the whole 3rd qtr. It's a pet peeve to me, but nothing I label anyone as a "bad fan" for.

And your point is? What about that is "calling me out?"

Stop ripping on fans

Nope. When I'm frustrated with certain fans I'll continue to express that. A lot of fans don't respect or understand the body of work the players, coaches, and administration puts into a full season. When fans give up on the team or go off the deep end about players or coaches I'm not going to stand for it.

I assume you're going off my post game thread comments?

The fans didn’t wake up or really show up until late in the game. Many didn’t make it back until the start of the 4th quarter. At critical moments late in the game you’d see more fans sitting and looking on their phones in many sections than standing and cheering.

Is that "ripping" on them? I don't think so

And some Griz fans can really suck when the team loses too

That's ripping on a certain few that deserve it and I'll stand by those words forever. No fan base is 100% pure and ours has it's share of rotten eggs.

So that's it - that's you "calling me out"?

EDIT: should add in those two quoted statements aren't intended to be connected to each other. I don't think fans that don't make it in at kickoff are bad fans. I just wish there were better effort for more to get in early
