Florio's latest: UM Should Be On Watch...

60 Minutes late Andy Rooney lamented the fact that Journalists don't have a code of ethics similar to the doctor's Hippocratic Oath. He made some suggestions; including: "I will not use my profession to help or espouse any cause, nor alter my report for the benefit of any cause, no matter how worthy that cause may appear to be". Also, "I will not do deliberate harm to any persons, except to the extent that the facts harm them then I will not avoid the facts".

Right now, Gwen is sitting on her couch with her lap top, fingering herself to this thread.

She is a massive attention whore. She relishes the attention this is getting her, and has even bragged openly about death threats, etc.

In addition to that, she is getting some major props for the man-hater community. For every Griz fan bashing her, there is a women’s lib movement putting her on a pedestal for her “courage” to rise up against the evil empire. She is loving this shit.

This is what drives me nuts about her reporting. She is implying that Kemp is now part of the sexual assault scandal. Is he? This is the first I heard about it.

It is kind of like reporting "There was a mass shooting in Colorado and Alpha was seen with a gun."
I just failed to include that Alpha was seen with a gun at a rifle range with in the past month in Missoula.

While the quote is true, it leads the reader to make false conclusions.

This puzzled me too.. Kemp had nothing to do w/ the story, but now his name is mentioned in the same article as sexual assaults.. good job, good effort Gwen.

Did it really surprise you? It was a free shot at the football program, who cares if it was clean the refs seem to be letting them play.

The Missoulian is the biggest trash piece of media I have ever encountered.

Some bitch from The National Coalition of Violent Athletes is all of a sudden an "expert" on the situations at Penn State and UM. Yeah there is a real non-bias "expert" opinion on NCAA sanctions. This bitch knows nothing besides what Florio tells her. What a joke.

tnt is Gwen Florio

Excellent.. 8-)
You're a bitch for not hitting me up in Goosetown by the way GrizCountry........

I think i was camping fairly close to you too. I had so much going on, just trying to soak it all up. Since it was my first time there. Definitely going back next year, i wanna watch the men's homerun derby and maybe win a couple more games than this year..

Worst run tournament ever. Nobody knew what they were doing. Problem is people keeping showing up no matter how bad it is.

And from what i hear, is that every year more and more teams show up. Sunday morning our Ump was 30 minutes late for the game. Which kinda sucks when you have to get up to play @ 7 and blue isnt even there yet.. Im also thankful that i didnt have to play any games on the golf course..

Time to get ready for districts this weekend and then state the following weekend after.. 8-)

X a million...and I'm one of those that keeps showing up. Last year we showed up in Butte to play a game and the other team didn't show up. We thought WTF. Well, turns out the bracket at Washoe had us listed on one field and the bracket at the complex down the road had us listed at another. We got refunded $50. WAHOOO!

This year we weren't even listed on the schedule when they came out on Wednesday or whenever it was. We had to regulate. "oh yeah, Donkey Punch Allstars are registered."

Here's a hypothetical for you. If each of you had the knowledge that some drunk college girl was going to get raped next year... unless UM scrapped Football this season... would you vote to scrap the season or no? Be honest with yourselves.

We may face a post season ban. If so I hope we concentrate on
nothing but beating the crap out of the cats(again).
In which case the NCAA will be punishing itself as no one else is going to bid up playoff games; they will miss UM money....

"The Truth Shall Set You Free" - That saying can be applied to this entire situation. I am confident the NCAA will investigate this case and determine if the U did something inappropriate. I find it hard to believe that assisting someone (any athlete) with finding legal counsel would be an NCAA violation - unless the University had that law firm on retainer and they were paying for the legal advise/defense of the athlete. Regarding Ms. Florio. I think everyone should simply settle down and be patient while the investigation and JJ determination work their way through the system. I for one will not read the rags that Ms. Florio scribbles in. She is practicing sensationalism and I will not participate by posting a link or article that she has fabricated. Do us all a favor and quit giving her attention/press. She is not worth the time!

Exactly, the response some are giving is what feeds the machine and provides exactly what it is seeking. It may be hard, but I would venture a bet that nobody on this board knows the details of too much of what happend and we should just all wait for the outcome.

Here's a hypothetical for you. If JJ was charged and convicted of rape and unable to play for UM wouldn't your initial gut reaction be joy and happiness because you want the cats to have a better chance of beating the Griz? Be honest with yourself?

BTW, this is a rhetorical question and does NOT need to be answered by you.

Florio (and Devlin) totally missed the point of the Penn St sanctions. Penn St was shredded by the NCAA for it's actions in covering up the known actions of Jerry Sandusky. Not because of the horrible crimes he committed himself.

The UM... as I best know, has covered up nothing.

Hence, no comparison in terms of the way the NCAA will look at this.

Trying to be somewhat objective in all of this...

There are underlying similarities between PSU and UM. There is a general culture of football being above all else in a smaller community. Now - the results of these similarities are drastically different, and I think that is very important to point out (which Florio does not). To link UM to PSU without this commentary is unfair reporting, but none of us should be surprised by Florio's tactics at this point.

And if you really want to start focusing on the worst offenders of this behavior, the next targets should be high major football schools that reside in cities of less than 100,000 people (like State College, PA). While a community like Missoula has fallen into this type of culture, there are universities where this culture is way more out of control.

The SEC is full of these types of communities where football is far above everything else. The cultures of some of these cities are dangerously out of control - and what happened at Penn State could just as easily happen at some of these universities.

The positive at UM is that Engstrom has taken some actions. Now while we don't all agree with them, at least there is a heavy focus on running a cleaner program. There's nothing wrong with people loving their college football, but that creates a tempting environment for those without strong characters to take advantage of. It's the responsibility of university presidents to prevent this from happening, so I commend Engstrom for trying - even if I don't agree with all of his actions.

So - are there similarities between the cultures in Missoula and State College when it comes to college football? Absolutely. Could this have happened in Missoula? Quite possibly. Are the current circumstances in Missoula comparable to what happened at PSU? Not even close. And shame on Gwen again for not reporting the full story without bias or an agenda.
