Florio's latest: UM Should Be On Watch...

If the ncaa has had some major league investigation, involving major sanction,s going on for the past 6 months, that would not seem to jive with this statement by Engstrom:

"UM President Royce Engstrom said Monday he hasn’t heard from the NCAA since the organization notified him Jan. 30 of its investigation into unspecified allegations."
1. remember that letter that was released that told um that they were under investigation, the NCAA told RE not to discuss the investigation with anyone, um asked for and received permission from the NCAA to release the document as part of a direct request for documents.

2. you and others here have continually bashed GF for inaccurate reporting, now you want to hold this tidbit of her reporting up a an example that the NCAA is doing nothing.

3 There are violations, they may not be major but there are violations and RE is aware of them, that is the way the NCAA operates.

And you know this HOW, dumbass. Florio engages in cut and paste reporting while quoting "experts" with a political agenda, kinda like "Fox News".

More like NBC, actually.

Another Florioed-up "article".

As for IQ25.06:

1. No one even knows what your sentence means. Sufffice it to say that it stands to reason that if President Engstrom hasn't even been interviewed by the NCAA, there probrably isn't some huge smokin' gun for you kitty fans to rely on to take down the GRIZ program. Sorry. You'll have to try to actually win a game, you know, on the field.

2. It was a QUOTE. There's no "reporting" of a quote. I know you're a kitty fan, but c'mon man.

3. I agree. The NCAA will justify their existance by finding something wrong. Obviously, the "investigators" can't spend 6 months hanging out at Reds and the Mo Club and then turn in a report to their supervisors showing that UM is squeeky clean. They'll find some janitor that left a cigarette butt on the stadium concourse or something. That's a given. Substantial or significant findings? I find it unlikely.

Front page of the I-R in Helena this morning. Of course no new information on the substantive issue of criminal violations by football players, but lots of innuendo and speculation. The capper, for me, was getting the quote from the lady at the National Coalition Against Violent Athletes. Think she doesn't have a pre-conceived opinion that apparently expresses the beliefs of the reporter?

The equivalency between UM and Penn State is ludicrous. At Penn State there was a multiple-count criminal conviction of a Penn State staff member for horrible, ugly pedophiliac rapes, and the worst part, and really the part the NCAA used for their sanctions, was that this crime went unreported, and more were committed, because of the silence of other staff members, including the head football coach. Even if all of the allegation at UM were proven true, it would not come close to the situation at Penn State. So to suggest such an equivalence, as the article does, is agenda-driven, biased journalism as apparently condoned and practiced at what used to be the flagship daily paper of the state---no more.

The Missoulian is the biggest trash piece of media I have ever encountered.

Some bitch from The National Coalition of Violent Athletes is all of a sudden an "expert" on the situations at Penn State and UM. Yeah there is a real non-bias "expert" opinion on NCAA sanctions. This bitch knows nothing besides what Florio tells her. What a joke.

tnt is Gwen Florio

Excellent.. 8-)
You're a bitch for not hitting me up in Goosetown by the way GrizCountry........

I think i was camping fairly close to you too. I had so much going on, just trying to soak it all up. Since it was my first time there. Definitely going back next year, i wanna watch the men's homerun derby and maybe win a couple more games than this year..

I cancelled my Missoulian and I'll never purchase it or the Daily Interlake again.

I'm totally ready to cancel mine too. The Missoulian has been pro-Griz to an extreme for so long, and now I guess they tried to find someone willing to take the sword and betray the Griz with gusto and questionable-journalism, and they found their man( or woman). Would be nice to cancel on the same day as others in a Gwen Florio protest to make some impact. I'll wait for someone to propose a mass-cancellation day and follow suit. I would, also, like to propose to all that cancel/have cancelled to let the Missoulian know that you will re-new the day they fire her. I doubt enough people on here can organize a "walk-out" day on the Missoulian that will make an impact, but i am down. Someone organize it, like a month away to unable multiple people and groups to follow suit. If everyone convinces 2 others and so on, we COULD make a stand.
I tried this when the first couple articles came out. I kind of got hammered about it, there were a couple people that agreed. Personally, I don't live in town but I usually buy a paper when we come over especially during the season. I will not be doing that anymore. I know it's only 15 bucks a year, but it's 15 they won't get until she is gone.

I admit I know nothing about any of this but..........

1. I think the NCAA is probably looking at the fact that UM on the surface helped certain players with
legal advice............I for one can't believe that a cover-up of criminal activity occured. If so why
aren't people being charged? We may face a post season ban. If so I hope we concentrate on
nothing but beating the crap out of the cats(again).

2. The Missoulian has created an environment that seems to divide a community by the gw reporter.
She obviuosly hates sports and more importantly football players. I see a lot of players doing a lot of
very positive things for kids in the community but she never reports the good things which shows
and proves she is agenda driven. The Missoulian really should be ashamed of itself.

3. The big questions are can Griz fans rise above this and fill the stadium week in and week out? Can
Missoula garner enough support to again have pride in its football team? Will Montana be able to
re-establish itself as a top notch program both academically and athletically to recruit top players?

4. The cats seem to be riding high but..................they seem to understand "riden high in August
shot down in November."

This whole thing really sickens me.............the lack of respect for an institution as good as UM is unbelievable. If gwen doesn't like the culture in Zootown why doesn't she pack it up and move it out.

Go Griz!!

I’ve mentioned this before, but why don’t you guys pick up the phone and call Gwen Flo or Sherry Devlin. Both their numbers are listed on the Missoulian website and Gwen even gives her cell number on her voicemail.

It won’t make you any less frustrated, but they are both very open on the issue. There is no “hidden” agenda. It’s all right out in the open, and Gwen openly detests the football program. They could give a shit less what any Griz fans think, and Gwen actually thinks it’s funny. It’s become a bit of a personal challenge for her. She also reads e-griz frequently, for fun.

Very insightful post. Just shows that Flen Glorio should be limited to posts on e-griz rather than in a news paper. Her ramblings are much more in accord with this forum, where facts are few and opinions are many. She is aggenda driven and she cares nothing about being accurate. A journalist she is not.

The so called NCAA investigation of UM may be the ONLY case in their history where someone hasn't leaked what is going on, which leads me to believe there just isn't much there. My hunch, and that is all that it is, would be that they are insterested in why Foley took athletes to see an attorney. On the surface that seems like an improper benefit, but maybe it isn't. who the hell knows anymore?

I would think very few people here would detest her if she wrote stories where she kept the facts straight, didn't rehash the same story over and over again, and reported openly and not skewing her views toward one side.

No chance of that happening.

At this point, facts are completely irrelevant to Ms. Florio. She has basically evolved into an opinion blogger, who has been given free rein to print her personal vendetta in the front page of our local newspaper. The fact that she is being allowed to do it is more disturbing than that act itself. Thank Ms. Devlin for that.

Personally I believe she should not only be reading e-griz for fun but writing for fun as well. :P I have no respect for someone who goes out of they're way to create contoversy all in the name of professionalism. A professional she is not! If detesting something makes way for possible slander and creative journalism then maybe its the media that needs a code of conduct.

Face it, Gwen F@#$@ is an "attention ho". Anything she writes to get it is OK. In her mind she seems to believe she is Woodward and Bernstein all rolled into one, doing all of us a huge favor by exposing an egregious situation. Real reporters don't actually want to be part of the story or "make news". They want to report the facts and nothing more. Instead GF revels in the hatred she has generated. She seems to believe that it validates her mission. What a sad joke.

I love her closing sentences:

"A case involving the expulsion of an unnamed student accused of rape is on appeal to the university court.

Meanwhile, interim football coach Mick Delaney dismissed quarterback Gerald Kemp from the team earlier this month for unspecified violations of team rules.

Delaney has said Kemp could be reinstated. Both Kemp’s and Johnson’s names remain on the team roster."

This is what drives me nuts about her reporting. She is implying that Kemp is now part of the sexual assault scandal. Is he? This is the first I heard about it.

It is kind of like reporting "There was a mass shooting in Colorado and Alpha was seen with a gun."
I just failed to include that Alpha was seen with a gun at a rifle range with in the past month in Missoula.

While the quote is true, it leads the reader to make false conclusions.

More like NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and the New York Times.

I was listening to Mike and Mike in the Morning (my sports experts) before the sanctions press conference and Mike and Mike said that the Penn State penalties are a "one-and-done" deal that we are unlikely to see again.

Only the liberal Missoulian could twist our situation so that it is comparable to Penn State. Anything to sell a paper.
